Lmao 33 pounds? The only thing that suggests that's possible is his meteoric UZR drop.

What's weird about that is what an oddly specific number he used. The story would have been exactly the same and would have been more believable if he'd just said "Sandoval looks like he's 30 pounds heavier" rather than "Sandoval has gained 33 lbs."

Not to mention that the Braves broadcast crew A) has no clue when or if Sandoval is weighed B) what the results would be So unless their color commentator is sneaking into Pablo's house and rolling him over onto a scale in his sleep, I'm gonna have to call BS.

Sandoval has a history of gaining weight during the season which is why the Giants weighed him every day. His lack of discipline to maintain reasonable playing weight is only going to get worse as he gets older.

It wouldn't be any more or less believable. I also don't know why we're debating this. In what world would the Atlanta Braves announcer have such a good idea about Panda's weight gain?

I'm more making fun of the ridiculousness of it than debating it. The announcer kind of undermined his overall point, which might have some merit. On the one hand, I don't care what Sandoval weighs so long as he hits. But on the other, if the Giants needed to keep him on a strict weight regimen and the Red Sox are not, and he is gaining weight, that's bad right? I mean, he's on a five-year deal.

Somehow with all that extra weight, Panda managed to jump and catch that liner yesterday. He also managed to leg out a double that easily could have been only a single.

Announcers never have friends or sources with other teams. Carry on. Just made it up.

I was listening to the Braves radio team for the first half of the game. Jim Powell and Don Sutton. They were throwing the 33 lb number around and Sutton said it came from the Sox ,but didn't name who. I laughed it off because Panda clearly has gained weight ,but if you're not weighing him, how do you know how much?
Some other gems from Sutton.
Ryan Larvenway is a good catcher for pitchers to work with because he went to an ivy league school, and really studies the hitters.
The Red Sox have some really fast young players in Betts, Holt and Xander. Well 2 out of 3 aint bad.
Also went on and on about the Miley/ Farrell thing.
Powell does have a great voice and Sutton has a good voice for radio ,but they were throwing some stuff.

First Sox win since Hatfield made that Battle for a playoff spot thread: We kno who to blame now. Always seemed to do his best hitting when at his fatest. Problem is his mobility has been limited to 12 inches each way. Hatfield? Bulk up, Chris!

Lol Holt has a higher wRC+ than guys like McCutchen, Brantley, J. Upton, A. Gordon, Abreu, Encarnacion. The guy is amazing. He probably won't keep this up, but he's without a doubt the best utility player in the Major League.

Sounds like a Free Mason conspiracy theory. They love the # 33.

It's a safe bet he would get a permanent gig on many, many teams, hell he just about has one with the Sox. He'll probably regress, but the bat has been so good it could drop by a bit and he'd still be well worth leaving at second and probably center as well. He's invaluable to the Sox in his current role just because he does play so many positions, but I'll bet they get calls about him all the time.
