I get the sarcasm, but I'd have Ziegler up now for when the bases are loaded. This is literally the only reason to have a "closer" in my mind: once you bring him in to a one-run, you don't warm anyone else up. Saves a bullpen wear and tear. If you don't do that, get rid of the entire concept of closer. I completely agree with this. One run games in the 9th are why Kimbrel gets paid. Win by the closer lose by the closer.

It's funny, a couple swings and misses is all it takes for me to get right back on the bus. When guys swing early in the count, Kimbrel is great. When they don't...

That works if you use the best pitcher, which is not Kimbrel right now.

That's giving Kimbrel a vote of no confidence. Farrell won't and in my opinion shouldn't do that. Your in a playoff race. Feelings get put aside.. Exactly it's a playoff race. Without Kimbrel our chances are far worse and if Farrell turns on him then he loses him.

It's not reductionism if your self-described position is exactly what I said it was. Don't be so humble, you put it so more eloquently than I ever could.

Approaching 30 pitches, still want to leave him in if he loads the bases?

You have to have someone warming up here. It's not like someone called it. But yay it worked out.

You have to have someone warming up here. To bring in after they take the lead? Lol

Watching Kimbrel is like watching Dice-K nibble at each and every batter.....

Aaand exhale.
Good win. Props to Pomeranz for a very good outing and his first win in Boston.
