How is this not on CNN right now?! I hate him. It's just sad that Ras-I is so fragile. From all reports he isn't the lockdown corner that the Pats hoped he'd be, but that he was still a good DB because of his length and athletic ability. He just is made of glass and I'd hate to be him, knowing that I am a talented DB with a chance at a long, lucrative, and productive NFL career and I just can't stay on the field.

He was like that at UVA too. Unreal.

I work nights so I'm going to miss the game tomorrow night. Really wanted to see Dobson, Boyce and Thompkins.

LOOOOOOL @ Patriots Preseason Network
"We have Will Svitek, the rookie from Rutgers, at right guard."
Well, it was a reasonable guess, I suppose.

Blount looks sharp so far if he keeps this up and makes the team the Patriots could have a top-5 RB group easily.

Yup, if any RB gets cut it's gonna be Bolden.
Tebow, on the other hand... ugh.

For those in the know... How is the WR pecking order looking like as the preseason advances?
|
|
|
Post by jmei on Aug 17, 2013 12:27:18 GMT -5
Looks like: Amendola Thompkins Edelman Dobson Boyce
With the caveat that the 2-4 slots appear fairly close and might be interchangeable, depending on the situation (i.e., Dobson in the red zone, Edelman between the 20s).

Snaps played with TB12 in preseason game 2 according to ESPNBoston:
Thompkins 21 Amendola 20 Boyce 9 Edelman 4 Dobson 2
So perhaps it's actually 3-5 on jmei's chart which are close, not 2-4.

Some thoughts on guys fighting for the final spots:
QB: Tim Tebow - his only shot is to have a great game on Thursday and I just don't see that happening.
RB/FB/TE: Leon Washington, Brandon Bolden, Legarrette Blount, James Develin and Michael Hoomanawanui - I'm lumping them together bc I believe they could all impact each other. Despite some folks picking him as the "surprise cut", I think Washington makes the team. While there are other guys who could return kicks and leadership alone is not enough to keep a guy (Yeah, I'm talking about you Tebow), his role as a backup to Vereen as the passing down back pushes him over the edge. As for the others, Bolden and Blount are in competition to backup Ridley and Blount has the edge. However, Belichek likes Special Teams contributions (especially from his reserves) so Bolden has the edge. Hmmmm. Let's put that on hold. I think Develin and Hoomanawanui might be in competition against each other. With Gronk likely on the 53 but not active for the first few games, I think the 3rd TE (Sudfeld/Ballard make the team, Fells is cut) is needed. However, Develin has been used as the short yardage back. That could bring us back to the first part of the conversation where Blount could easily be used in that role (though, injury risk aside, the Pats best chance at picking up that short yard has typically been Brady himself). I'd keep everyone here except for Develin.
OL: McDonald vs Kline vs ? - This is very likely a spot where the last OL is not currently on the roster
DT: Vellano vs ? - Don't think Pena is anything more than a guy for this Thursday. Vellano has gotten some prime reps but, as with the last OL spot, this could be someone not currently on the roster
DE: Buchanan vs Cunningham - I suppose Cunningham has a shot to win the job on Thursday but I think Buchanan has the edge (Bequette is out, especially since he's more likely to make it to the practice squad than Buchanan)
DB: Dowling vs T Wilson vs Ebner - Despite the injury history, I think Dowling gets one more chance. So it could come down to Tavon Wilson vs Nate Ebner. Ebner is probably the better Special Teams player but Tavon is no slouch. Wilson also offers, at least, the upside of being a S (despite how bad he's looked, he did have some moments last year). Ebner does not. I think that cinches it for Wilson.

Well there goes that idea:
Per Adam Schefter, Ras-I Dowling has been cut (Twitter).

texs31 -
Agreed on Tebow, Develin, OL. I think Pena and perhaps Vellano are ticketed for the practice squad.
I'm not surprise BB cut the cord on Dowling. Bad pick, let's move on.
