Re: the Cardinals: Well, if we've learned one thing, it's that if one guy on a team catches the bug, a big chunk of the team is likely to get infected. ADD: Ken Rosenthal says it's 7 players and 6 staff members. Masks and keeping space on the bench and locker room (and not crowding during good plays) would go a long way to lessening the effects of one or two bad actors.

File under: boys will be boys
Going out to casinos/bars/nightclubs/ etc, etc, etc after games, or on off days, has been part of the dna of baseball players forever. Was I hoping for better judgement/conduct on their part? Absolutely! Am I surprised that they are operating off field with the same "business as usual" pre-pandemic mindset? Nope, not surprised at all...
I am sure MLB will muddle on with the season unless the infection rate of the players gets to some stupid level. I am following it right now more out of a morbid curiosity to see how this plays out rather than any love of the game.

Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 34m O’Halloran on @weei says it’s such a strange year with the deadline already approaching but the Sox are talking to other teams about trades. Says it’s not really about buying and selling, they want moves that improve now and the future.

Bob Nightengale @bnightengale · 24m Masks on at all times when not playing! No talking and eating at same time! No bars or restaurants! And don’t even think about leaving team hotel because security is now watching! MLB lays down the law with daunting protocols that go into effect today.

MLB Communications @mlb_PR · 12h Following agreement with @mlb_PLAYERS and approval by @mlb Clubs, 28-player rosters will remain in place from tomorrow through end of 2020 season, including the Postseason. Doubleheaders will allow a 29th player, and taxi squads may increase from 3 to 5.

Here's a chart showing the player and team movement as MLB responds to these positive tests:

How long can teams be sidelined? The Cubs have played 13 games; the Cards have played 5. How can you catch up in a responsible way? At some point it becomes absurd.

Well that's why they just had a significant schedule shuffle yesterday, adding lots of doubleheaders, moving games, etc. No fans/tickets to move around, so I guess you can do that, but at some point you're going to have teams playing a lot of doubleheaders.

I said earlier. MLB should just go right to a Yankees/Dodgers World Series where there are seven sudden death games with a runner at second base starting each inning just so Aaron Boone can publicly ridicule umpires and whimper about air-horns.

Is there any chance MLB could set up a concrete gnome with a hole in it's belly in CF which if a batter hits a ball through the hole the season ends and the batter's team is crowned World Champion.

As long as we get a salary reset, I could think of worse things. As it stands now I would not want that to happen before Sept 1

If they're going to have TONS of double headers they should consider limiting them to 7 innings even though the rosters are stacked to make it ok on the pitching staffs in general.

Some of the Cardinals players have been (briefly) hospitalized with covid - ER visits, not like ICU. But so that answers the question of whether these are all just mild/asymptomatic cases. (Has anyone heard if any of the Marlins have had any serious cases like this?) And it raises some more questions about the rest of the Cardinals' season. They're still going to be 2-3 when other teams will have played like 18 games.

Man, that's way worse than the dust up between Hou-LA. They're gonna get hammered with suspensions. Hopefully some Astros actually get punished. Laureano will for sure.

This is partly Manfred’s fault. A’s get hit 5 times, Astros none in the series. He’s made it clear that the hammer falls if you come in on an Astro. So there is nothing stopping their pitchers coming in all they want.

Suspensions have to be equal for this to be fair.
