So has there been anything definitive said about why Newton was released rather than stick around as the backup? I have many theories, but I just wanted some clarity. (haha, clarity from Belichick) Yeah, I think New England probably wanted him as a backup/wildcat threat. Especially considering Mac’s frame. Signing Malcom Perry indicates to me that they want to have a running qb available to them. Or he’s just a gritty navy guy…

I was gonna bring up Tavai when he was cut just because of the parallels to Van Noy (2nd round LB from Detroit with the same size that didn’t work there). Patricia obvs likes him. He was a reach in the 2nd though
This practice squad is pretty awesome tbh, they snuck a bunch of guys through that I didn’t think they could get through. I like Lacosse/Bryant/Wilkerson being there

My guess Hoyer to PS is procedural so he can practice - he will be on the final 53 when things settle

NE just released Langi, clearing the way for the Perry claim.
EDIT - Not subject to waivers, he will likely re-sign (either 53 or PS pending other potential moves).

Not sure I see the Malcolm Perry angle, he doesn't have anywhere near the 3 cone time you want from a slot guy. He's so tiny for a RB and you already have two receiving RBs. Maybe it's just a claim and then release because they wanted to take a look. Even in College it was that triple option that Navy runs, I definitely enjoy watching it, old school Notre Dame type crap. Yet it's not the wildcat type crap either and he can’t throw.

Guess Thurman was a waived/injured. Went unclaimed so he'll go to IR (out for the season unless NE releases him w/settlement).
Both Lazar/Kyed saying NE is looking for a QB to sign to PS.

Probably doesn’t hurt that they’re playing Miami in week 1 They’ve added FB Ben Mason and QB Garrett Gilbert to the practice squad Honestly kinda love both moves. Especially Mason

I would have went crazy hard after Jake Fromm, yet the Bills signed him to the practice squad. It's not a good market looking for a QB.

If Mac Jones gets hurt I don’t think there’s anybody out there who moves the needle. Kyle Allen might be the best option and that’s not saying a ton. He’s behind a couple guys Or you can go with Hoyer and end up in the top 5-10! Although I guess Foles exists

Yet I'm not really talking about a major injury, just half game to a game type guy. You know a legit backup or someone with upside to be that. Allen would be a big upgrade and that's crazy. Damn Eagles stole Minshew!

The practice squad is pretty loaded…. There will be more movement here, but this is pretty nice. Wonder if Zuber returns.

Who knows anything for sure but that looks like the best practice squad I have seen. Not just rookies or second yr players but guys with pro experience. I like the Ben Mason move also. As far as the ST players. Yes it seems a bit much given the number of true plays that occur in a game these days but as someone else said I think BB views them as depth that can contribute if needed in a pinch. Looking forward to some smash mouth football this year.

I wouldn't sleep on Nordin or Wade either if we're talking all rookie teams. Nordin can make 57 yard field goals look easy, we haven't had a guy with a leg like that maybe ever. Wade is going to be forced into playing a lot given the roster and the way the Patriots use those CB/S guys is perfect for him.

We've been waiting a long time for that it class. The difference making draft class. You know the one that changes a franchise direction. 2019 got you excited, yet Harry and Williams have been disappointments, Cajuste is just now healthy and Stidham looks more like a backup. You might have the most impactful draft class since 2010 with McCourty, Gronk, Spikes, Hernandez and Mesko.

Onwenu, looks there - need Uche and Duggar to make huge leaps. Looks promising. It’s time to stack a few drafts together
