Friendly reminder that Garrett Richards has the lowest career ERA, FIP, and WHIP of any starter on the active roster What have you done for me lately (I do not care what he did while he was in San Diego where games have been meaningless for 20 year - I live in San Diego). They made the playoffs...

E-Rod has a lower WHIP. Even more so after tonight.. Rodriguez: 1.287 Richards: 1.262 If Felix Hernandez had made almost any team, wouldn’t his career numbers likely be the best on the staff? He beats Richards in all those categories. Maybe we shoulda given him $10 million?

Bumgarner has twice as many MLB innings under his belt. They may have caught up to him. I don't think these are the same situation.

I'm sure somewhere on Brewers Prospects Dot Com there is a guy saying they hate JBJ because Andruw Jones once played baseball.

In important news, NYY lost 4-1 5 singles. They did get 6 BB, but gave up 8 BB

So citing career numbers doesn’t prove anything people aren’t stipulating. The issue is how close is he now to that guy. The answer seems to be not all close.

He's not pitching like that guy at the moment no, but do you think he's toast? To me it seems more like he's just not right. Command has been horrible since his first spring start, and as far as I know that's not something that's been a big issue for him throughout his career. Career BB/9 of 3.3, and he was pretty good last year. So either he's completely changed as a pitcher in the last 6 months, or something is off. I'm inclined to believe his mechanics are off, or (likelier, considering his track record) he's dealing with some kind of injury issue (leading to bad mechanics).

Good job Brice for getting out of that mess

This is another game where the pitching staff was in trouble but bent, rather than broke. All you can ask is to give your offense a chance when you're down, and they've done that pretty consistently.

If Bobby Dalbec could improve on his .723 OPS that would be great.

That is, I think he is a mess and diminished from what he was at his peak. Do I think he can straighten out? Don’t know. But I think he is toast-enough that a team hoping to be really good that has Houck and Seabold ready to go can’t wait long to have a guy who is in a state closely approximating toast to, er, untoast?

Taylor vs the heart of the Blue Jays order seems like... not the ideal matchup

Cora’s apparent faith in Taylor is one of his most baffling quirks.

Any game where we throw Richards, Brice, and Taylor probably isn’t going to wind up in our favor.

I agree, you can't keep running him out there. I'd give him one more start max and if they still can't figure out what the problem is, its time for a DL stint and he gets to try and get right on a rehab assignment.

Screw the whole having another lefty in the bullpen thing. Option Taylor call up Bazardo.
