Beats me, we'll have to see this offseason if there's anyone attainable who would fit the bill. Sorry if I'm not too eager on penciling in Kiké as the opening day CF when he's missed months with a balky hip. If Kiké comes back I'd prefer it in the role they presumably originally signed him for which is super utility guy. After the defensive CF nightmare they'll probably get Kiermaier. He'll be a short-term contact. Between that, the lack of a big financial commitment and the familiarity, I'd be surprised if Bloom doesn't sign him. He'd be a bridge until Rafaela is ready. Can't say I'd be too enthused if that's the route they went but he'd probably be at least a 1 WAR CF which I guess the way this year's gone can be considered an upgrade. However I think it'd be a mistake to say nah we aren't going to make a run at a guy like Nimmo because of Rafaela or really any prospect. Dont get me wrong, I'm bullish on Rafaela for sure but prospects as we all know are never a sure thing. Even if Rafaela does force the issue and makes it soon then you still have a good OFer in Nimmo and Raefaela for cheap.

KK had major hip surgery and isn't expected to be ready to do much until spring training. No idea what the actuarial tables look like for what he's going through, but prob a stretch for him to have a starting CF job on opening day.

If Bloom's approach to free agency is to get value or wait out the market, then I doubt he gets Nimmo.

I agree the bidding is going to be heavy and I have my doubts Bloom is going to be the type to outbid everyone to get him but in my eyes it's basically Nimmo, trade or we're likely looking at another year of very underwhelming production in CF. That's probably what we'll end up getting so I guess at the very least I hope they get someone who can play at least a good defensive CF.

Lol Honestly kiermaier has a career OPS+ of 105 vs. RHP, Kique 124 vs. LHP - kinda really like the idea of a platoon there with Kique able to also fill in elsewhere. GG CF defense, solid offense (assuming reasonable health), good value (maybe $15-$20m all in including some incentive clauses?). KKH holds down the position early in the season if Kiermaier needs time to recover and provides depth at other positions when needed the rest of the year. I will say that personally while Duran does not look good in CF, I haven't given up on him being an offensive contributor if they can find a defensive home for him - I just don't think that will ever be in the outfield (especially not CF)

This off-season has to be when they start building for the next title window so I’ll go with a Murphy-Razor Ramone trade.

Not exactly surprising news, their payroll is sky high already though. I know Cohen has more money than he knows what to do with but I'm sure there's still a limit to what he'll spend.

In Fenway it’s by far the least important spot. I think at thins point it’s 50/50 weather he improves as a hitter or This is it. Sox are going to have to find some more thump somewhere in the lineup tho.

I think the dream scenario is to trade Duran (possibly in a package for Murphy?), resign Kiké and sign Nimmo

I really hope the sox treat Duran as a 4th OF/Platoon entering next year. I actually think Nimmo won't be worth the money and they can use it elsewhere. I'd rather see them resign Kiké to play CF on a 1 year prove it deal and then use extra money to go for a big bat for the Corner. I'm hoping they target Mitch Haniger.
A lineup of 1 Bogaerts 2 Devers 3 Haniger 4 Hosmer 5 Story 6 Verdugo 7 Kiké 8 Casas 9 Wong/McGuire
with a bench of Arroyo, Duran, Wong/McGuire, Dalbec

My thoughts exactly. However, I would assume Bloom’s approach will change this offseason with much more financial flexibility. The vision was to build prospect depth and cut payroll, right. Mission accomplished. With roughly $142m available before extensions, options, arbitration, etc., I’d expect a different kind of offseason.

Kiké can go away ill take Pham instead.

Kiké can go away ill take Pham instead. You're comparing a LFer to a CF/2B/UTIL. Pham is 34 and has been a below average defensive LFer the past few years. In terms of a pure LF platoon, I'd rather have Pham, but for everything else, the 30yo Kiké seems like a much better bet. Of course, it depends on how much money Kiké is looking for - after a career year followed by a down year marred by injuries, it's tough to gauge his market. But I'd go up to ~8-9 mil for him on a short term deal. Unless the Red Sox make a big move for an OFer, it's possible both player would fit (especially if Martinez isn't retained).

I’m going to throw a name out there as a trade target, Kyle Lewis. 2 years removed from being a rookie of the year, and only 27. He’s had a horrible year being injured with a meniscus tear, and a concussion. He was just sent to the minors so he could get regular at bats, and the Mariners OF is crowded. Maybe if he can overcome his injury and get healthy he can be an effective center fielder, or at the very least a corner outfielder. A potential big bat and bounce back candidate, with a few years on control left.

I remember last off season there was some talk on MLB radio about the Dodgers potentially non tendering Bellinger and he got $17M. He hasn’t been great but plays a solid CF and if it did happen maybe he would like to try and re establish value at Fenway. Probably to many IFs but maybe something that could happen. Right now I’d just go with Hernandez and his D+flexibility.

ZiPS is projecting a .304 wOBA for 2023, lower than Pham, Dalbec and Duran, and tied with Franchy.

I think he’ll be about an average bat at league minimum in that spot and it will allow them to spend money elsewhere (hopefully the OF and SS). A little Bobby/Hosmer platoon might be able to get them good production at minimal cost. Then they have a bajillion dollars to get a CF

Casas and Hosmer are both lefties. Casas has a history of extreme splits and Hosmer has a history of reverse splits. Problem solved.

This doesn't get talked about at all.
I see Kiké Hernandez getting a Qualified Offer from the Red Sox, with the hopes that he actually accepts it.
A one year deal until Rafaela is promoted and ready.
Seems like a win/win for both sides.

Not impossible that it works out but the odds are low.
