I’m not even sure that does it but if true that’s a really strong offer.

Yea 12 years at near 50M AAV isn't likely to get it done I'm afraid but it is probably competitive. If they really do want him they're going to have to up that offer I think. Why do you think that? This would come in higher than all the easily accessible projections I've seen:
MLBTR: 13/600 FG crowd: 13/585 Ben Clemens: 12/576
For comparison, last years top FA got 10/460 after receiving these projections:
MLBTR: 12/528 FG crowd: 10/450 Clemens: 13/527
True when outlined that way. Maybe I'm over estimating what he'll actually get? Maybe I'm just trying to keep my expectations down?

12/600 is basically right at the ZiPS fair value line Ii dout this this gets it done but iif 12/600 is a true number, its a great starting point. Lots of ways to and a little value without totaly starting over -adding a year -adding a small amount AAV - signing bonus - defering some $ - opt outs.

I don't think Devers is the most tight lipped guy, so it is kind of credible that all these jokers are getting legit info at this point.

Feels like one of a few things is happening - in terms of why this is coming out:
1) Someone(s) from the Red Sox side is reaaaally feeling themselves
2) Soto/Boras camp is leaking stuff out
3) There are just some rumors out there that certain media people are jumping the gun with little regard to accuracy because it’s fun

Ok, this is getting *really* interesting… If true that's a strong offer but it's still in an area I could see the Mets topping or the Yankees matching - if that matters. I still think the Mets could swoop in at 701 million over 14 or 15 years and Boras certainly could shop a 13 year 625 million dollar. I hope that what's being rumored is true and I'm hoping Soto wants to join the Sox offer and accepts but until I hear that he is signed, sealed and delivered, preferably by Jeff Passan, I really cant buy in. What's interesting is all this smoke. Did Carrabis hear something and then was told to scale back? Or maybe all hes hearing is about the offer and Soto being legitimately interested (but enough to sign if a higher offer comes in?) One way or another this is sure a lot more interesting than the last five or six offseasons combined.

If there are some player friendly opt-outs though? That or we have been shooting wayyyy too high on what teams are willing to shell out. 100% - it's been an echo chamber with zero support. 12years at 50mil AAV w/o deferrals is the largest contract in MLB history by 140mil!

This brouhaha on Thanksgiving Day reminds me of when my wife and I signed the contract for our first house - at 6:00 pm on Easter Sunday, 1972. That was a time when houses were routinely being snapped up the day they went on the market.
Can't we just enjoy our turkey and have the negotiations resume tomorrow?

Is it me or does that douse some of what we're reading? I mean the only guys claiming that he's agreed to a deal are obviously fakers We have the credible report of a Devers phone call. Ortiz is quoted as saying he's going to meet Soto sometime today or later. And then there are these two 12/600 and 13/625 offers that are plausibly real but should be taken with a grain of salt

Passan is not actually denying the rumors posted above, which don't claim a contract has been agreed to.
But also: none of those rumors say that another team couldn't match or exceed the Red Sox' offer. In fact are we even sure Gomez is referring to the Red Sox?

Is it me or does that douse some of what we're reading? I mean it can be true that the Red Sox offer is in the range that Rodriguez and Dominguez say it is and yet still have this not even close to being resolved

I've seen the "Red Sox sign Soto" stories and know they're BS. Dont really trust Pepen or Hector Gomez and have no idea who Mike Rodriguez is or some dude named Mick or exactly what Carrabis knows, if anything. I know Passan breaks a ton of news. I can see the Sox offering 600 - 625 million. I think the Mets and Yankees can match or exceed those offers. I think 700 is the max offer that's on the edge of reality. It's not like somebody is giving him 20 years or 800 million or whatever. I do believe the Sox are doing everything in their power but might have to up their supposed offer to land him, but we'll see. I'd say their odds are a helluva lot higher than what I thought theyd be when free agency started.

The fact Soto and judge haven't spoken since the season ended and that Soto and rafi spoke for over an hour has to mean something right?
