I have no idea what to expect from Sandoval next year, but I think he could be the starter until Moncada gets called up in a month year or so. FIFY. So you think Yoan won't be up until September next year? I'll take the under.

I think Boston was clearly wronged here and they received no compensation for that.
Independent of how severe the League Office thinks the punishment should be to San Diego, Boston should get something in return. I don't think Espinoza coming back was ever realistic, but some sort of draft accommodation would seem to be fine. I would guess a 2nd-4th round pick.
This entire situation makes no sense to me.

I'm just happy about being 4 games up.
Keep it rolling!

I'd have JBJ ahead of Xander.
Hanley is slugging .639 in the 2nd half.

You can call that liner back to Kelly luck, but he's been dominant since his return to the MLB on 9/2. 7 IP, 11 Ks (14.14 K/9), 3 BB (3.86 BB/9), 1.29 FIP, 2.25 xFIP. Hopefully he keeps it up, because it's kind of reminiscent of Andrew Miller. He's basically been a two pitch RP since coming back and it's worked wonders -- so far.

I gave the old man double fist pump when the HR happened.
What a great win.

If the Sox are ahead by 3 runs going into the 9th inning, maybe they should give up a couple of runs so they can boost their performance in 1-run games, since it's such a critical measure. This.

Glad AB is back and seemingly healthy. Young has been great too!

Last night was a great pitching duel. Kudos to both starters.
Rick has been unbelievable. What a trade/extension by Ben!

I don't think BC would have been interested in that reduced role with Boston.

Still up 2 games.
I'll take it.

I wonder if they will give JBJ or Mookie a day off sometime soon and have AB sub in.

How about the fact Farrell seemingly hasn't figured out Abad should exclusively be used against lefties? That is basic managing. You're expecting a lot at this point.

Looks like another nice series, our starting pitching has been unreal since the break.

I hate threads like this one. Xander wasn't going to hit .350 all year. I have to admit - when he was hitting .359 in June, I wasn't too convinced that he wouldn't hit .350 all year. He was making it look so easy. I honestly think this guy needed a few days off at some point to recharge his batteries, and he hasn't been able to get it and I think it's affecting him big-time. Kind of like a pitcher who's thrown way more pitches and innings than he's used to and has hit the wall. Very much agree here. The injuries caused him to play more than they likely wanted to, but he's always going to play a lot. IIRC Boston skipped a start or 2 of Lackey's in the stretch run of 2013 for a similar reason, and it seemed to help him last through the playoffs. They can't really afford to do the same with Xander right now though.

Bullpen usage is weird across most teams, not just Boston.
I agree that Koji is likely the key to stabilizing the bullpen at this point. Hopefully Joe surprises us -- in a good way, this time.
