Right move or not, I don't know why anyone is surprised by this. They weren't gonna send back their big trade deadline acquisition in the middle of a pennant race.
If they could have done it for lesser compensation, then yeah, that's just insane.

Barnes and Abad cannot be on the playoff roster.

Yeah that'll really show 'em.
It would also require this story to be something casual Red Sox fans are even aware of or care about. Most of them couldn't name the commissioner of baseball if you put a gun to their head.

So if we take 2 out of the next 3 the division is essentially clinched, no?

As it stands, Fangraphs has us at 80.9% to win the division (honestly thought it would be more) and 98.9 to make the playoffs.

Evan Drellich evandrellich 15m15 minutes ago Text from a scout: “for all the (expletive) John gets about bullpen management that was great" Yeah, it really was a well-managed bullpen game under not ideal circumstances with Clay getting blasted so early. Farrell was aggressive where he needed to be, and even the use of Noe Ramirez actually looked better than I thought when I saw him out on the mound at the beginning of the inning. I'm not a Farrell flogger but let's be honest, you or I could manage a game like that when you have twenty relievers in your pen.

I suggest locking this thread and starting over. Do we have reason to believe that the next thread won't also be a dumpster fire? I can think of one way to make sure it isn't.

Bogaerts posted a .386/.442/.586/1.027 line with two outs and runners in scoring position in 2015. This year, the shortstop has a .200/.294/.350/.644 line in that situation That's because RISP stats are small sample noise and not indicative of any inherent skill. Bogaerts is a perfect example of that. The same is basically true of his overall numbers. Don't freak out over cold/hot streaks. I mean, do we really need a thread for this? Does anyone think we should bench Xander in favor of....

The Sox have an exciting young prospect and there are actually a bunch of guys happy to see him stink in a couple of games so that they can win an argument on the Internet. I was going to say only in Boston, but today I looked at a bunch of other AL & NL team forums and it's the same all over. Give me a break. Kopech doesn't have to "stink" to fall short of the trolling proclamations in this thread, he just has to not be an immortal pitcher in the big leagues literally today.

Safe to say there's been an edict to be aggressive on the basepaths.

When a guy strikes out 7 times in a row against pitching which is really nothing special it's not a good indicator. We are in a pennant race but some of you want to keep with the Moncada program? When a guy isn't even close to ready it does him no good to keep throwing him out there. They know how to get him out and are going to keep doing it. You can see the look of terror in his face when he goes up there. Stop the bleeding please. That's not terror, that's Latin Pride.

Alright so Moncada isn't ready. Would've made this lineup unfair. We can't be that greedy.

Well, K rates may not mean as much as they used to, but there are still times where K's kill you. And the Sox have had that problem in spades this season getting the guys in from 3rd. This is the kind of thing you worry about when you have by far the best offense in baseball

I still feel like there's more to his story than has been reported. I'm not sure I totally buy that him having a child with this Banks woman was the sole reason the Cuban government allowed him to leave the country. I have no conspiracy theories, it just seems like it would take more unique circumstances than that.

Speier quoted a scout making that statement regarding Betts, but I do not recall that the scout with whom Speier spoke mentioned Andrew Benintendi. No, that was definitely in an 108 Stitches this year. My guess is that Thomas spoke to the same scout. It was the April 28 version, here's the quote: “In seven years,” said one of the evaluators, “I have only put four 70/80 final grades on position players I saw in A ball: [Mike] Trout, [Bryce] Harper, [Mookie] Betts, and Benintendi.”

Huh, that's exactly the same quote that Speier had from a scout earlier in the season.

Steamer's 80 is a pre-season projection. No it's not. But, as you said, that includes his projection vs LHP, which is likely not relevant.

Steamer projections
wRC+ Shaw: 93 (ZIPS 86) Moncada: 80
Probably small enough difference to be worth a shot.
