Sometimes it's good to laugh at your situation... Brian JohnsonVerified account brian_Johnson35 2h2 hours ago Home just in time for the hurricane.... great timing. #IrmaHurricane Never know, it could miss us and quirt up the cost. Just lower odds. We've just been kind of lucky since '04 when 3 went thru middle of the state, then there isn't as much made of storms that hit the south like is when one finally nails the NE...

Boyer can be the flip player to go also over Abad. Neither is controllable beyond this season. Only reason choice was Abad is Boyer is capable of going multiple innings, tho in a few weeks Velazquez should be on the roster and that problem solved somewhat.

Carson should be up before September. I would guess 2 and a half weeks away until we see him in Boston. It all depends on his command. If his command is there, the Sox aren't going to waste his innings in the minors for too long. Workman is a guy they could send down for 2 weeks and then bring right back up in September. Carson Smith is one of the best arms on this team and was one of the 5 best relievers in baseball in 2015. As long as he has his command and is pain free, the Sox should ship him up here as soon as those two things happen. Carson Smith is one of the very few players that you have to create a roster spot for imo. That would be an awful mistake and one this team has a habit of making only because Workman has options. Workman has been one of the most consistent relievers on this team over the last month and has shown he's back to that 2013 for after over 2y of rehab and injury issues. Why on earth would anyone send down the most consistent reliever this team has had the last month? Isn t it just easier to jettison Abad and go without the lefty specialist that isn't even one of those? Wait until 9/1 to call up Smith? It took Workman 2 full seasons to get over TJ.. Why lose what IS working?

Poyner's stats are off the charts. I wonder if he's a low to AA wonder pitcher however due to his weird delivery. It would be nice if it carried over to AAA and did work a little while at the majors until figured out.

Chavis is swinging and missing 33% more than Devers, 52% more than Longhi did. This stretch is nice, but I think pumping breaks is a good idea. Obviously huge question marks about his game. Will Middlebrooks says hi. Middlebrooks was also one of the most over hyped prospects within the sox own fan base. he had no idea of the strike zone and couldn't hit anything off speed while in the minors unless it was hanging in the middle of the plate. Only thing superior to Chavis at this stage is/was his glove.

That entire affair is such old news now.. Why can't the NE media just get over it's infatuation with itself and just forget about trying to make news and drop the entire thing? Do they not understand THEY are one reason perhaps some players may not care about coming to town to play? Shaugnessy especially. I've written about his rants regarding multiple players several times over the years. Supposed HOF reporter or not, that only goes to show low standards regarding journalistic standards for enshrinement to me.
Get the local media to lighten up and quite possibly things would improve.

CJ Chatham was removed from the GCL roster. He hadn't played in a couple days so it is unclear if he is headed back to Greenville or reaggravated his injury. What a lost year for Chatham, feel bad for the kid. Better luck next year, hopefully. Same thing pretty much last year when they had his wrist in one of those removable casts in ft Myers after he was drafted for much of the time he was there. It had to be affecting he swing. remember he went hitless for along time and hadn't gotten his 1st hit until after we had left.. maybe 15-20 AB's.

Think pen will be fine until he gets back. Having Workman sitting 94-95mph now with the nasty curve he used to have doesn't hurt anything. Decision should be on whom he should replace permanently until Smith returns.

Well, again, Owens is learning completely new throwing mechanics. He still threw 50% strikes in the outing. Not ideal but it's not the yips. Let's hope so. Six walks in four innings. If this were ancient times, it might call for making a sacrifice to the great god Jabutu. Like that.. Possibly closer to one of HP Lovecraft's Cthulu Mythological greater ones tho.. "He who should not be named" and hope he disappears after the season to another organization.

We already have the next Pablo in Baldwin. Stout, some power, never walks, plays C and 3B. Out wth the old, in with the new. Eh, I don't love the comp. Baldwin isn't stout so much as he has kind of a thick lower half (see pic below), he hasn't played any 3B this year (I consider this a positive, fwiw), and is 3 years away in a best-case scenario. Meanwhile, at this point in his age 21 season, Sandoval was hitting .310 in Double-A and one month from his MLB debut. I've seen Baldwin play 3b and C. 3b more than c and think he wasn't too bad there when saw him, tho that was couple years ago. His body size might have some issues taking the grind of a full season behind the plate will say. he's not a big guy.

I noticed that there is a GCL player, Hardy, that is listed as "restricted". What does that mean? He's on the restricted list after a PED suspension. Thanks Chris. He played in a game late last August while we were there, was really nice after the game and gave my son a cracked bat.. Then all of a sudden was suspended/restricted.. Was wondering myself what brought this on.

If my calculations are correct, we have about $1.85 to go after Otani. I wonder which teams still have decent money left. How much which team(s) he wants to play for could maybe play into it also.

What have noticed last couple of years about the Orioles GCL team is that it has been loaded with Caribbean players that are both HUGE and power hitters, or probably signed as such. They had one gentleman last season.. think was playing 1b must have been 250lb+ Not seen and southern division games yet.. Maybe steveinbradenton, or sarasoxer has. We're heading down end of this month tho and may be able to chk out a game with the O's team.

Thompson is still the iffy one. As soon as Brannen's 400k overslot was announced, then the savings saved (rightfully so) on Schreff earlier on him it looked like he in particular could possibly be an issue to me. It was a guess of course. Maybe things are fine and will work out, tho it won't surprise me if he continues into the draft until next year and had this thought right after the sign of Brannen.
Hopefully Perry can still be gotten as a secondary prize regardless should Thompson not.

This will go to 50 pages if you don't just let him get the last word. Maybe move it.. Takes up nearly 2 full pages and still shows no signs of abating.

Can't blame the kid. Free college ride at one of the better schools in the south and playing a game he loves to boot.. Still, would have been nice. this leaves just Perry whho hasn't outright not given a yay/nay of the premo pitchers left among the HS kids?

FO must have really liked what they saw in Esplin then to give him that much. Figure will get a 1st hand look at him next month when go down to Ft Myers and see what he looks like.
Everyone remembers Trent Kemp also. A shocker who got 250k cpl years back. Watching the MiLB games doesn't do justice with how this kid looks up close in person. am sure a few of you have seen him. this kid is a well built physical speciment, not some monster, but an athlete all the way around and have a feeling that played a factor into why the Sox gave him that overslot deal. Did that play a part into Esplin as well some? Dunno.. Am looking forward to seeing him and the other new kids tho soon.

Forgot to add Chris would be sweet if everything broke lucky with regards to Netzer and Esplin bonus amounts, then somehow they could get a Perry "type" signed in a surprise deal, much like Kyri Washington signed for nearly nothing a couple of years back out of the blue.

Yeah, then a lot of times u would think they have a good idea before the draft what a kid wants before they even draft him. Agree here what many have said that Brannen's amount to me is shocking. It puts to rest now hopes of say Perry and raises doubts on some top 10 kids even. Agree that they're probably not doing over-slot after the 10th, but I'm not sure what top 10 draftee you think isn't going to sign. Thompson is the one am having thoughts on now with so little cap room and Schellenger a bit also. Taking a 2016 draft to the 2017 with Anderson and Shawaryn? That's a considerable chunk of money needed for what looks like 2 kids with better heaters and equal upside. Are the rest of the top 10 picks on hold waiting to see how much of a discount both Netzer and Esplin will take?

Unless they know they can get Schelenger and Thompson at slot, they better have a deal with Netzer for under slot. He can hold this whole thing up. If refuses to sign for under slot they have nothing to offer Thompson and Schellenger other than slot money. Brannen just seems like an overpayment to me. They couldn't get him at $1.1 million? Even 1.2 mill? Really? I'm not disappointed unless they don't sign the top 10 picks signed. They pretty much have to have a deal with Netzer to finalize the Brannen deal, right? Yeah, then a lot of times u would think they have a good idea before the draft what a kid wants before they even draft him. Agree here what many have said that Brannen's amount to me is shocking. All this back and forth when CBA agreement time comes up between owners and the players union is nothing with the big league tems really. The miLB teams at AA and below is where the rosters SHOULD have been expanded many years ago be 2-3 more and no reason not to do it at anytime. It's not like the kids make more than peanuts and would cost anything. medical expenses probably cost a little, but really.. This should have been a priority decades back.

Not to mention all the kids at Fort Myers anyway. You guys that have been down there for those games know what I mean. rosters might be 25 players, but there are nearly always 10-20 more in workout uniforms sitting up in the left field bleachers shagging for foul balls and talking. Some are XST kids of course, some injured, then some are activated for games also. This has been a ritual for years.

I remember son reports about Jared Oliver from fall instructs, I think. His velocity was up 95-96. Scouting report says control might be an issue. Could be an interesting arm, though He was mid 90's last year in Ft Myers as remember the couple games saw him play after was drafted and a really friendly fellow as well to chat with after the games. Control was an issue then and might be his bug-a-boo as some of you guys mentioned as seem to remember he was pretty wild in one of the late July games saw him in. nice guys like this pull extra hard for. Rolandi Baldwin is another.

Not trying to side track everyone's interesting discussion here. I'd like to remind everyone that 2001 and earlier teams could do that before the stiff penalties were enacted and more emphasis was put towards the draft and some teams didn't even spend on the draft that had money as large markets, being the NYY and LAD. Teams that were small markets Pittsburgh and KC did use it to their advantage and Tampa in 2011 had believe it was 11 of the top 100 choices and came away with really terrible choices overall in what then looked like going for people who would sign instead of people who were "hits".

I understand what you are saying Chris, yet say another 2011 crop comes along that is really loaded and a big money team decides to give this theory a try. Manfred might get some Bowie Kuhn in him. That job has absolute power, no congress, no Senate to restrain it. He's got absolute authority, all the owners can do is fire him later if he decided to not go along with some owner that decided to try and buy off several great kids and look at what many here knew several kids in that 2011 draft would become.
