Well.. If he talked as nutty the other way and said as many stupid things as Olberman has over the years.. Jobs would keep lining up for him would they not?
Then saying and doing stupid things has always been the right of the left.. Hasn't it?
Love it when Boston fans and media keep trashing on Schilling after he retired, all at the same time they were regarding him as a hero when he delivered for them so many times a bit over a decade ago.

Just noticed what Huegel posted regarding Pennington and batter upset at each of jawing at each other after the guy he hit. Pretty sure I posted here last year after one of the games went to at The Fort when he was only doing 1-2 inning stints how pee'd he was in the dugout about getting removed and not normally pee'd, like when a guy does for getting pulled, but personally cause he had to go to the BP and finish his pitch count there. Guess he wasn't quite there and another inning would have ran over more than likely, but he was really upset about it.

The Matheny pick was and is a meh sandwich. But if he were the become a moderately useful bench player in the majors that's not a bust for where he was selected. I get everyone's point in that, it's giving 4-5th OF's 500k. More likely another organizational player, or someone that can be found on the waiver wire at most anytime during the season. Like to see them attempt guys with high ceiling, if are long shots. Organizational guys they have and always will. Don't be afraid to end up with another Myles Smith, or Madison Younginer. Sometimes the high ceiling and low floor guys are much better than those safe picks and those organizational guys are always around looking for milb deals every year.

I know, my main man Keith Couch with a CG shutout was truly a sight to behold. That long overdue cup of coffee is coming :') Didn't he throw a nice CG in his last game and let up just 1 run?

Am used to being ridiculed on this board, yet as a long time Sox fan keep coming back. Was bang on with Marrero when some of same people were harping his merits.. Same with Brian Johnson. Tate Matheny believe is another illusion. Dalbec? Please.
I enjoy this site, but the blind faith in what the front office does? That goes too far.

Jim Callis @jimcallismlb 11 unsigned players in top 10 rds: 4 redsox , 2 @marlins, 1 each @mets, @pirates, @angels, @orioles & @whitesox. @mlbdraft Interesting that Braxton Garrett has not signed yet. I think his bonus will be another solid data point for Groome. I don't think an extra data point matters at this time. We're trying to save what we can with the other three and offer the rest to Groome, who is going to take it. If we can only offer so much, then we can only offer so much. Neither Groome nor his agent realistically expect us to go over the 5% overage for him. I wonder if the sox are playing hardball with all four of them in hopes of grabbing an 11+ round guy? At this point I think that's pretty unlikely. Think hopes of Quintana are an illusion. It's all hopes on Groome, who is the only target and hopes at this point that think/hope they can still sign. Would have been nice to have drafted at least someone better at #4 other than Dalbec if it's going to take close to slot for him to sign however.

Moncada and Benintendi making a show of it in this game. Moncada, LD triple down the RF line. Benintendi pulled a monster shot out to RF 2 innings earlier. Entire series those 2 have lit it up.

Does Wilkerson going today give a chance for Haley getting a shot at the 5th starter spot over Sullivan now?

Never underestimate the profound culture shock that Dominican kids have when they come to this country. Remember the former Red Sox pitcher who literally lived under a coconut tree before signing with an MLB team. I learned a great deal about the difficult conditions in the DR from 4 RS minor leaguers from the Dominican who lived with me off and on for a couple of months years back when the Sox and Mariners had a joint team in the Arizona Summer League. Hopefully, he has a support system at home. Culture shock, they don't speak English, many come from absolutely nothing and many still have very little since they got little as bonus money and gave it to family to improve their families standard of living once signing. Have been around these kids long term, albeit many years ago and tried to help them in Winter Haven and later on, in the Navy traveled to many of those countries players come from and was involved in Meriel boat lift, picking up haitians (and dominicans) escaping poverty onboard the USS Engage. People who have never visited these poverty stricken islands should make a trip and see for themselves 1 time, same with some of the central american countries which were just as bad a tad over 35y ago and likely just as bad off with despot leadership.

Interesting bit of muscling up on the ball that Lin put into the one he hit deep to RCF. That one sounded as good as he hit the thing last inning.

Frank Howard was also a Fit looking 6'7 at the time. Biggest shame was nobody seemed to take the time and really teach him how to hit the ball everywhere until Williams at Washington kind of late in his career. Thought he had a chance to be a HOF guy, could he have either played for Williams a few more years, or lasted a few more seasons at the top of his game. One of those rare people that had a 2000's body and maintained it during the 60's. Shame that people had no idea how he should approach the game on the field until Williams came along with the Senators and even had people like Eddie Brinkman hitting.

As for the pluses and minuses of signing every draft pick?
The commissioner has to sign off on each and every deal. To this date (so far) it's been nothing but a formal thing. Who is to say that if some large market team were to go out and spend.. Just throwing out these numbers.. Say.. 25-30m on a draft, that the previous cursory commish signature could just become improbable on a few occasions, or said team could be setup for retributions in other ways down the line on top of future draft pick losses?

That's at least two players the Sox offered in the 3rd round before taking Anderson As remember? Eons passed before that pick on the tracker at mlb.com live also.. Either there was some broken live link between teams and mlb, or Boston possibly trying to work out some under slot deal with a player before the pick perhaps before making the selection?

Ugh. I was reading the Speier article, and there was a quote from Rikard about Dalbec saying the scout (Vaughn Williams) had "strong convictions about him as a hitter". So I went on here and checked the scout's track record of signings to see if his convictions can be counted on. Willie Ethington Brandon Magee Devin Marrero Jeremy Rivera Shaq Thompson In short, no. No they cannot. At least we can say pretty confidently he won't be worse than Shaq Thompson, considering its just about mathematically impossible. Pretty sure he has to be the worst hitter in the history of professional baseball. In order for that list to be complete you have to include the players he scouted that we didn't sign as well. I'm also pretty sure there are plenty of scouts with similar or even worse track records. I wouldn't read too much into it either way. I doubt he was the only scout watching Marrero from Boston and as everyone knows. both Shaq and Magee were both 100% football players before baseball anyway. Ethington? Had hopes for him and a personal disappointment, especially with him being cut loose so early after being given that 100k over slot bonus.

They have way too much empty space in those states down there. Or not enough, for people like me... I can relate to obsessions breaking up a marriage. Luckily the right one for me is a big Red Sox fan, though she draws the line at anything past watching every game together. I tried to explain wRC+ to her the other day and that was pretty funny. My wife of over 30y doesn't really care for BB, tho goes to games and we both go to Fort Myers during the GCL season 1-2 times for several day stay every year. She will go to Rays games, only when her company rents one of the luxury suites 3-4 times per season as they do, being one of the main sponsors (Brighthouse) and will tag along. It's all give and take. Just stay that way and marriages will last forever.

The dreamy rotation possibilities is almost to much to contemplate with Espinoza, Groome and don't forget Kopech if all 3 worked out. Something like the Verlander/Scherzer and Sanchez trio Detroit ran out every 3 days in 2013.

Fortunately the Sox took the player they had more highly rated. Not often you get a chance to draft the top college SS in the 2nd round. Remember Marrero? How is this kid a better player For starters? They won't throw away 2m on Chatham as a bonus, including 250k of it being over slot for not hitting at the collegiate level.

Don't know that a lot of Sox fans look at the Duke era better than the Epstein, tho can't see a ton of current GM's as better than Dan is and really have a problem with how long Dan was un employed. Think NE media played a lot into that.
Look no further than the ChiSox and kenny Williams with one long time failed GM. He's not the only one either. Seattle to way to long to fire jack Z. Duquette didn't do a bad job in Boston, given his limits by then ownership.
