The Bradley and Betts misplay yesterday, to me, was a sign that complacency had kicked in. Those two not going all out for the ball is a surprise and i doubt we'll see much more of it. Cora sounded angry in his presser and you'd have to imagine the focus will be ramped up going forward.
As Cora said, last year was last year

JD's oppo power is so easy. What a hitter.

This is an unbelievable stat: That is ridiculous. He needs his pull-side power back ASAP. He has looked awful.

What a crap deal for Acuna. The Braves lucked out with that deal.

I always thought this would be a complicated deal to put together. Between the lack of comparable SS deals out there and Bogaerts' somewhat erratic career, I just wasn't sure what the deal would look like. That said, I am super happy with his deal.
Xander was the first prospect that I followed throughout the minors and made me into a frequent reader of this site.

Moving on from the Sale talk.... I am excited to see Eovaldi this year. He just had his best year and best stretch ever since coming to the Sox. Can he sustain that again this year? Hopefully he gets off to a good start today.
A few more extra base hits would obviously be nice to see as well.

The only Oriole hitter who is worth anything is Mancini, and even then he's nothing to get excited about

Feel like Hernandez and Houck move up. Groome probably is out of the top 5 since we just have no clue on him right now

For what it's worth, Lakins did not look good for us and that was consistent with what those who were there before us said. Ugh... hopefully that's just a result of some camp dead-arm but not ideal.

I agree. This March has been a bit of a dud from the team. It doesn't really matter, but it would be nice to have some sort of juice to these fake games.

was Kukuk still in the system in 2014? Anyway it's hard to really think the Red Sox have a star or even solid regular in the system right now. I'm confident in Chavis, Feltman, and Hernandez having big league roles at some point. Beyond those three I think you really start wishcasting that something clicks.
I wanted to put Dalbec in there but I need to see him K less than 30%.

True but one guy was a true UFA and he didn't break $30m AAV over 10 years as a 26 yo with 6+ fWAR 3 out of the last 4 years, and 30 fWAR in his career (about the same as Betts). Mookie will be 28 when he's a FA, same as Arenado would have been, so I think the picture is far clearer based on these two deals.
While he's the better player, both of these deals start to paint the picture of what an extension could look like due to the open market for Machado and the age similarities with Arenado.

Arenado and Machado as data points, makes the framework of a Betts extension more clear. Just a matter of how many years, but the AAV should be around the $32-35m range. Optimistic that they can get something done now.

Alex Cora only talked about Mr. Cafardo in his presser today. Didn't feel it was appropriate to talk about anything else. Cora is truly an extraordinary man.
The tributes and affection that have poured out of basically everyone for Nick is amazing. The sign of a life well lived. He will be missed.

Bumgarner isn't in Sale's class, and frankly is overrated due to his post-season accolades. His highest fWAR was 5.2 in 2015. Sale has 4 seasons as good or better including 7.7 and 6.5 the last two seasons. Not to mention Bumgarner has only thrown about 240 innings the last two years combined.
If you're paying an over 30 lefty, Sale is your man (and Price too I guess).

Josh Harrison to the tigers on a very modest deal. Wish we had him instead on Nunez for that role.

The Aaron Nola extension was a smart piece of business by the Phillies. Cost certainty over those arb years and 1 free agent year makes sense. Have to think those types of deals are easier for pitchers to accept than batters due to injury risk.
With the current state of the game I wouldn't be surprised if we see some more of these deals, esp. young pitchers.

I wonder if there's much owner vs. owner disagreement too. We know the players can't be happy but do all the owner's see eye to eye over all this?

What would be a time table for Groome to come back and pitch? A late season cameo with 2020 in mind?
