Praying this is only a two year deal. Otherwise, would have much preferred Hart. Regardless, good to have our offensive core (- Ellsbury) back in place.

Agreed. I really hope its only two years.

I'm guessing it's going to be 2 years with an easy to reach option. Probably 32-34 million. Would have been tough to replace him. Need his bat. Now can turn attention to the outfield.

Multi-year deal accoring to Rosenthal. No surprise. Interested to see if he took a discount to stay in Beantown

Was hoping they would move on and take the pick, but there were not a lot of other appealing free agent options - aside from the Tanaka opportunity which is still up in the air.

Sean McAdam ?@sean_McAdam 4s Napoli deal is for two years, $32 million. Signing first reported by @bradfo.
Love it! AAV overpay to only keep it at two years.

Multi-year deal accoring to Rosenthal. No surprise. Interested to see if he took a discount to stay in Beantown Reportedly the Sox had to at least match his best offer, which suggests no discount.

According to Alex Speier the Rangers had a bigger offer on the table, but Napoli wanted to return to Boston

Clearly the talk about a 4 year deal was ill informed.

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal Source: Napoli took less to stay with #RedSox. Earlier today talks were at a critical stage. He had at least one bigger offer.

Fantastic. So it will end up being just a bit more than his original 3 year deal last year, which would still be considered "worth it" once he showed his defense at 1B

Perfect! Looks like he took less (i.e. didn't stick out for a third year) to come back to Boston, which is awesome.

Perfect! Looks like he took less (i.e. didn't stick out for a third year) to come back to Boston, which is awesome. I wonder if that's what 'less' means - shorter deal at higher aav less total $ - we'll probably find out.

Good for him as they needed to have RH power in RS line up. It's reasonable contract & hope for improvement stats from his 2013 season.

John Tomase @jtomase The belief is that Napoli left three years and $39-$42 million on the table from the Rangers, per a source.
Gotta love that. Nothing this city respects more than a player that wants to be here. Rare in today's world.

Good resign. Made most sense from get go. I knew it was highly unlikely he left. To get him for 2 years is nice.

cheers, given the alternatives, this was our best case scenario at first....does this put over the 40 man roster limit?

That has to be total deal so an extra year and 7-10m total. No way it was that on top of Sox deal. At least I doubt it.

I wanted Hart if he could be had for fewer years than Napoli, but its looking like he may get a 2 year deal anyway. Hopefully this closes the door on any nonsense about signing Beltran. My remaining concerns for the off-season: get some value for our SP surplus, and let Drew sign elsewhere.
