Saturday will be Lawrence's first start for the Mariners after being claimed from the Blue Jays a couple weeks ago. He was an undrafted amateur free agant signed by the Blue Jays back in 2010 out of Albright College in Reading, PA, so that's kind of neat.
Also, as bad as the Red Sox injuries have seemed, the Mariners have Hernandez, Paxton, and Iwakuma all on the disabled list right now (and Chase De Jong who was one of their earlier depth options).

The hitting is there, though the bottom of the order is weak. Segura has been much better than I thought he'd be, while Cano and Cruz are still at the top of their game. But Seager is off to his typical slow start, and they've been hammered by injuries to the pitching staff as you point out. If the Sox' pitching comes through this weekend, they should win the series.

With 3 RHP scheduled to start the series for Seattle will Sam Travis get a start? Or will he be on the bench for all 3 games and only be used as a pinch hitter?

Paxton was lights out to start the year, just phenomenal stuff - but he cannot stay healthy. The King may be near the end of his reign which is really too bad. They had such mediocre teams for so long when he was the best pitcher in either league. He's approaching 2500 innings pitched, and the trend lines for the peripherals are downward. And there's a reason why the Dodgers nixed the deal with Iwakuma when they saw the medicals. His numbers are also trending down and he's 36. So the pitching rotation has become a replacement-level magnet. Not good for the Mariners hopes.

I wouldn't bet against Felix in the long run. He's still only 31. We've seen a lot of guys like him hit early 30's and lose the dominating stuff, struggle for a year or 2, and then turn it around when they rework how they pitch. Verlander comes to mind as a recent example, though he hasn't been great so far thus year.

Johnson should feel comfortable being behind Eduardo and getting input from a familiar voice.

Gallardo has been walking on ice this whole outing and been skating by. Need to get to him eventually before he comes out.

That was a nice DP turn by Rutledge. Can't imagine he gets a lot of reps doing that.

I was about to say don't be afraid to bunt with Marrero there, but he has been hitting a little lately. That's kind of a surprise for anyone.

I hope they end this game after this inning. This game is wet and dangerous at this point. That and the Sox are winning.

This rain is literally making me cringe. JBJ's slide into second could have injured him. This is stupid. Just call the game.
