Reese just “jacked” one out! I think it is time for a moratorium on that noise until a) he does something creepy or b) he stops being really good at baseball. Eh, it's all in good fun. It's not like he reads SP and is going to be upset about anything we say. I agree the guy has had enough humiliation and would never shout anything from the stands or try to turn a crowd against him. But a fan website is different.

Reese just “jacked” one out! 4-3 lead! I couldn't be any happier if I was the one who just jacked.

So, was he "can't hurt himself more so let's let him gut it out while we're still in it?" Now that we're out of it we might as well get a start on surgery. Or did they realize he could hurt himself more, so let's stop? But they haven't been "still in in it" for a long time. Some of us contend they really weren't in it at the trade deadline, which was about seven weeks ago. Why didn't they IL him earlier? He's a valuable part of their future.

Other than the short COVID season, how normal is it for the Sox to not have a single player with 100 RBI’s on the season? 2022 - will be Raffi in the 80s 2012 - Adrian Gonzalez 86 1997 - Nomar 98 1994 - strike season - Mo Vaughan 82 1992 - Tom Brunansky 74 1991 - Jack Clark 87 1990 - Ellis Burks 89 1982 - Dwight Evans 98 1981 - strike season - Dwight Evans with 77 1974 - Yaz with 79 1973 - Yaz with 95 1972 - Rico Petrocelli with 75 1971 - Reggie Smith with 96 back to 1967 so, 13 times in 55 years The '92 team was lousy, so I'm not surprised that the top guy had only 74. But the '72 team went down to the final series of the season and dropped two of three to the Tigers to lose the division by 1/2 game. It's amazing they made it that far with their top RBI man knocking in only 75.

My summary of season… just realized we got swept in Fenway by Yankees. Shows how low they are that I just don’t care. The worst part for me is I not only have to watch the Red Sox lose to the MFYs, but I also don't get the enjoyment I get on other nights when I turn on the post-game show on YES and see all the long faces.

For a second I thought Palbo Sandoval was in CF. Seriously. Almonte is built like a football player, but he dribbled that ball like a basketball player and almost kicked it like a soccer player.

Come on, JDM. Jump in. I'll drive you to the airport. Can't wait until this guy is gone. The way some of you guys talk about our players really sucks. JD is washed, but he’s been a really good Red Sox for 5 years. No, he hasn't. He was great in 2018 and 2019, took 2020 off, and got off to decent starts in 2021 and 2022 before turning useless for most of the season. If you give him 2021 as a "really good" season - and I think that's a stretch - he's been good for three of the five seasons. By his own admission he showed up for the resumption of the 2020 season out of shape and unprepared to play. I have trouble with an employee making $22M unprepared to go to work and that has colored my view of him ever since. I'm sorry if that's too old-school for you. His contributions to the 2018 team make him a good FA signing, IMO. But for the reasons stated above and others, I'll still be glad when he's out of here.

Wong is a AAAA catcher at best. I've always thought they should get him out from behind the plate and put his athleticism to use as a utility guy. He could develop into a player capable of filling in at 2B, 3B and in the OF. I'd rather have a solid utility player than a dime-a-dozen backup C. If they keep him at C for a few years, he'll lose one of his main athletic attributes, which is his speed.

Familia DFA’d per Familia to Cotillo Just heard that. Nothing like plunging the crapper after it's already overflowed. Too late, Mr. Bloom and Mr. Cora.

Bright side: FG has the MFY's WS champ. chances at 7.9 percent. I have to try not to be nervous about something that has less than a one in 12 chance of happening.
Four teams have a better chance than the MFYs, according to FG. MFY Elimination Day is going to happen.

Pham sure can strike out with the best of our team's Ksters. NOT a leadoff hitter either I feel like there is just a huge collection of dead wood on this team at the moment. Lots of pruning to be done. True, and it can't be done in one off-season. As others have pointed out, $90M in payroll space isn't as much as it sounds like if they want to keep X and Devers. You'd still need two SPs, an OF, a DH and a BP revamp.

Why is Familia on the team? Wouldn't experience in the majors be valuable for Frank Germa Putting German would be a no-lose move. If he gets through it, it's a huge confidence builder. If he doesn't, Cora just tells him, "No problem, kid. We were forced to put you into a tough situation for your first game in the The Show. We still like your stuff. Shake it off." This stuff seems so damn easy and they can't get it right.

Hilarious. Man, this guy just plain blows. How is Sawamura DFA'ed and Familia and Brasier still on the team? Sawamura was at least serviceable. Another stupid-ass personnel move in a year full of stupid-ass personnel moves.
I'm pissed beyond belief right now.

Anybody ready to come in to replace this guy? Can't leave him with the bases jammed. Too much of a chance of a walk.

Ol' Pudge Fisk would have run right over an MFY P who stood in the baseline like that waiting to tag him out.

Judge should be the easiest guy in BB to pitch to at this point. You just don't throw him a strike.
Or maybe I should say the second easiest. Marwin Gonzalez would be No. 1. What a frustrating night.

Nah, you'll be here. The Red Sox are a way of life. We've all hung with them through an 86-year championship drought, crushing losses, a history of institutional racism, unlikeable teams and management teams (not talking about this management team, more about John Harrington and Dan Duquette) and other maddening torment. I won't be disappointed if they don't sign X. I'll be EXTREMELY F'IN DISAPPOINTED if they don't make an honest effort. So far, it appears they have not. He's got three years left on his deal at 20 million per year. He's about to turn 30 and Mayer is probably no more than three years away. Assuming he opts out what do you propose they offer him? BTW. I totally do not buy any comment by a player that they want to stay. That is nothing more than a negotiating tactic. What do people expect a player to say? I agree it's always best for a player to say the pledge of allegiance to his current team. There's not a lot of gain in saying, "The place sucks and I can't wait to be out of here." They nearly always go for the highest offer once they reach FA. I've thought all along six years and $150M is fair. I wish Bloom had offered him that last winter. He may have taken it. There's no incentive for him to not test the market now that he's at the front door of market. They could sweeten the pot by front-loading the money, giving him an opt-out after four years and putting a "C" on his uni. If someone offers him $30M a year and the RS let him walk, I'll be happy with their decision, but still PO'ed that they didn't get serious a year earlier.

Got a feeling your fandom gonna get tested this winter. It’s been tested the last few winters. Now it is hanging by a thread. Nah, you'll be here. The Red Sox are a way of life. It's bonkers to think it's bonkers that X may be elsewhere next year. What is there in Bloom's approach that would lead one to think he's going to beat all offers for X?
He may not have to beat all offers because X wants to be here, you say? Don't bet on it. It's possible that some of the shine has gone off being a RS for X. The team has been good in exactly one of the four seasons (only three real seasons, but still) since 2018, the guys he came up with have mostly gone elsewhere, and management hasn't shown him much respect. He has indicated he's unhappy this year.
I expect Bloom to watch the SS market and try to get a bargain with a guy who's market is less than vibrant. That may be X. Or it may be Turner. Or Correa. Or Swanson. It may be none of them. He could go cheapo at SS and spend the dollars at another position.
From what we know via the reporting, Bloom has made no serious effort to sign X. The most expensive time to sign a player is when he hits FA - which is where X will be in a matter of weeks.
