Click here for the Long VersonShort version: - Rubby De La Rosa & Brian Johnson both had their floor ranking drop from 7 to 6.
- Keury De La Cruz and Brandon Jacobs both saw their floors rise from 5 to 6.
- Christian Vasquez and Travis Shaw swapped spots, now at 27 & 28 respectively.
- Jamie Callahan, Simon Mercedes, and Sean Coyle all moved up 2 to 29-31. That's a new high ranking for Simon.
- Moving down 3 to make room for the above were Mauro Gomez and Chris Carpenter, now 32 & 33.
- Miguel Celestino (up 3) and Keith Couch (up 1) are now at 46 & 47.
- Michael Almanzar and Heiker Meneses both dropped 2 spots to 48 & 49.

Spring training stats don't mean anything, but... Iglesias has 4 extra base hits in 18 at bats this spring. For comparisons sake, he had 15 in 482 minor/major league plate appearance last year. I know someone said his double the other day was a bit of a bloop. I'm curious about the two doubles today. Again, 18 at bats doesn't mean anything, especially in spring training, but it could certainly be interesting if he's gained some strength over the off-season. Besides, there are a lot of us who just plain WANT it to be true! Every time Jose reaches base I have palpitations!!

Yup, it's about his being able to enjoy his life. If having a job in baseball would further that, I agree, I hope the Sox give him the chance.
They're under no obligation, moral or otherwise, to do so. After all, you can't promise a job to every prospect who drops out due to injury.
Still, Ryan's been through so much and he's worked so hard . . . it would indeed be a class act by the Sox.

#5 would be a good idea and easy to implement.
#3 point to a real problem IMO. I'm not sure it would be as easy to implement as he thinks. It's a pet peeve of mine watching guys stick their arms or shins in front of a fastball just off (or not) the plate.

sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/tom_verducci/11/27/rules-changes-replay-rosters/index.html?hpt=hp_t4In short: 1 - The Phil Cuzzi Rule - More instant replay. I'm in favor if it's done right and done quickly. He includes using it for trapped balls which I like. 2 - The Doug Marvin Rule = Lower September roster limits. His suggestion is "that in September you can call up as many players as you want but you must designate a game roster each day of 25 players". He doesn't explicitly limit the pool to 40 but I think that was an oversight. His contention is that the expanded roster changes the rules too drastically when pennant fights are at stake. Of course his variation changes the rules too. 3 - The Barry Bonds Rule = Regulating "body armor" worn by batters. Interesting idea IMO. I'm tired of seeing guys practically lean into a pitch. OTOH I'd hate to see more injuries. His idea is if a pitch hits protective gear (other than the helmet I imagine) it's a ball, but you don't get the base (unless it's ball 4). 4 - The J.C. Martin Rule = Eliminate the 1st base running lane. 5 - The Jorge Posada Rule = Limit visits to the mound by the catcher in order to speed up the game. 6 - The Carolos Beltran Rule = Expand the ban on electronic devices from the dugout to the on-field coaches. 7 - The Johnny Damon Rule = Call a batter out for interference if a piece of a broken bad interferes with a fielders play. I don't remember this being an issue very often. 8 - The Sam Holbrook Rule = Eliminate the postseason outfield umps. He thinks they screw things up too often and aren't needed if you increase the use of instant replay. 9 - The Paul Bair Rule = Change the LCS back to 5 games. (I think Verducci just needed a 9th rule because, after all, it's baseball.)

Was the update date on the old page just for the rankings for for anything at all on the page? I thought the latter, which would make it not that useful for the rankings specifically.
I often wished there was such an update indicator, especially in the off season, so I didn't have to go line by line to see if anything had changed.

Only the top four players in the rankings remained unchanged this week. Notable among the other 56 were: - Rubby De La Rosa who was ranked for the first time at # 5. - Manuel Margot moved up a whopping 31 positions from 54 to 23. - Frank Montas moved up from 27 to 24. - Simon Mercedes couldn't match Margot, but moving up 25 spots from 57 to 32 isn't too shabby. - Linares dropped from 26 to 34. - Mike Meyers dropped out of the top 60 from 60th. I think it's safe to say that this is Almanzar's last chance to make his case to stick with the club, no? I think that's overstating it a bit. After struggling for years, he had a solid season at Salem, at a level he was still on the young side for. He'll begin 2013 as a 22-year-old in Double-A, and he's not a Minor League Free Agent until after 2014. I don't see him on a path to being cut before then. My understanding is that the development of his skills has been held back by his attitude / immaturity. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a "last chance" to show that he's grown up and eliminated that impediment in which case there's a chance for him to improve his skills. If so, given his raw skills, he gets more time. if not . . . Everything I know about Almanzar comes from what I've read on this site so consider the above a question. Is that perhaps the way the Sox are looking at this?

Sergio Gomez was listed on two ballots but one of those, from pedroelgrande, wasn't used. Although he corrected the Lavarnway error there was another (Manual Marcos) who was ineligible so I still couldn't include his ballot. Sorry Pedro. In the end the mistake was only made on one ballot, php's. It's not clear that I could have changed the attachment in the original post so I deleted it. See the new attachment for details. Sorry for the confusion. I may have screwed up and put those on Mauro. I'll check and fix it. Sorry.
Edit: That's exactly what I did and I'll fix it in a few minutes.
