Serious question: what would Dempster's role be if the Sox were to make the playoffs? He's not good enough to start for this team, and I don't really see his stuff playing up much in the bullpen. Hopefully he gets really good at handing out the water. To get back to this real quick, he gets left off the roster, right? Probably? The entire pitching staff will be an interesting question come playoff time. Probably worthy of a thread..... While it's a lot to assume that Buchholz will come back strong after the long layoff, but if he does come back then you will have to move two starters to the bullpen in the playoffs, then decide which one (maybe even two) of the lefties gets left off the roster entirely.

Talk about steroids. They are going to take Koji apart one of these days and discover he is a robot. Robotics are a big thing in the Far East, you know. Color me stupid, but why don't they bring up Bradley to relief Ells and Shane once in a while. They are the two that Farrell may wear to the bone. The kid can play defense and run, get a few hits and maybe walk some. Sure he may need more polish as a hitter but gee. I really do not understand it. Can someone explain why they do not bring him up for this month. Pawtucket is in the playoffs. He'll be up when they are finished.

While you might like Lavarnway, it's clear Farrell does not.

There's no question they're losing this one. I wonder what the Sox record is when you post stuff like this. It has to be a at a 100 win pace...

I doubt that the Redsox spend a lot of money on catching this off season. It doesn't seem to be a priority for them and maybe they are right in that approach. The difference between a top 5 guy and an average guy isn't that much to warrant $15 mil type contracts. What are you basing this off of? Currently, the Sox don't have anyone under contract for next year that they trust to catch full time. So what else will they do?

I understand the idea WMB had with Drew leading off with a double. Everybody does it. But, with Ross coming up behind him. Who could always be walked. And, the pitcher getting struck out. Instead of trying to hit it to right. He didn't end up doing it. But, he certainly tried. Wouldn't the batter be better off taking his normal cut? Big, strong rh bat against a lefty. Nothing wrong with a line-drive single to left-center there. Just sayin Ryu has a great change. He might not have been trying to go the other way but instead just sitting on his change and reacting curve.

OK just bitching again why even bother bringing him up. I would rather him be getting at bats in triple A than riding the pines. This makes no friggin sense to me! They're probably just waiting on his beard to grow to a respectable length before they put him in the lineup.

Lester has a right to be pissed.... That strike three was down the fugging middle Doesn't look like the ump is calling the low strike. What about the 'down the fugging middle' strike?

none of the other players tried to buy/steal and destroy the evidence before MLB got it... thats why its largerSo can you explain to me why the punishment for attempting to cover up a PED violation should be three times greater than the violation itself? It's ridiculous on it's face. This. Braun successfully covered up his PED use. Melky attempted to cover his up through a fake website. Those players got 65 and 50. 211 is a ridiculous number that in no way is justified, IMO.

Read about it over the years in obvious and not so obvious terms for Francona, Girardi, Maddon, and LaRussa. Earl Weaver also wrote about it in his book. Not sure who else lays down the law on this. I would guess there are more than just these guys. Then link them. I would love to read about them but haven't been able to find them myself.

I'm sorry, but this isn't how Major League Baseball works. A manager doesn't need to tell his pitcher "don't hit someone on the other team." It's not like he gives him a pep talk before every inning. No, but a manager can say - and many do - "I'm the only one on this team who decides who gets plunked and when. Period." How many times have you personally heard a manager say this?

All these "Bradley is not ready" guys were either taking a nap towards the end of Spring Training when people were demanding that he be in the line up openning day or they have changed their tunes. Of course being ready and replacing Ellsbury's production are two completely different things. All of this is moot though because the only way the Sox resign Ellsbury is if they extend themselves beyond what they feel comfortable giving him in terms of years and AAV. This is a bad contract waiting to happen and I hope the Sox let some other team deal with that. Are you saying Bradley WAS ready on opening day? I think most of us were saying that spring training stats don't matter (they dont) and he shouldn't have started the year on the big league club (he shouldn't have).

Hey, he asked. I agree that this year is an aberration for Loney. But his D is good and he could be acceptable from one side of the plate. If you double his salary ($2M) he's still a bargain as a 1 year platoon piece. The thing is did any of us not see this coming from him? I agree its an aberration too but its one I saw coming. I would love to hear more about your last sentence. I mean, Lonely has been a pretty crappy player the last few years.... But you somehow knew it would all the sudden click for him? I would love to see some of your previous posts where you predicted this...

To answer a question from earlier in this thread, according to a tweet from Nick Cafardo, Koji Uehara's 2014 option will vest with one more appearance. So barring something horrible happening, he will be with us at least one more year.

All of this assumes that once Xander is called up he never gets sent back down:
Calling him up now - Free Agent after 2019.
Calling him up opening day - Free Agent after 2019
Calling him up after missing around 20 days next year - Free Agent after 2020 but he gets 4 years of arbitration.
Calling him up around the middle of the year - Free Agent after 2020 and only gets 3 years of arbitration.

im foggy on the rules for the international pool. We can still sign some guys for cheaper deals correct? I tried finding one for this year but couldn't. This is from last year, though:

We're gonna play with this 3B situation anymore after this trip? My guess has been Tuesday at Toronto to bring up Xander for a few weeks now....No real reason for the guess but I'm hoping it's that time at the latest.

wcp3 and Guidas post some stuff against players and managers. Like it or not, I don't remember either giving much grief to fellow posters. I get that, and I'm done with the subject for now. But maybe that is exactly what needed to be said. Just like the players on the field deserved to be called out for crappy play - crappy posts deserved to be called out for what they are too.

I just want to say that it's not just you doing this. Some posters recently are becoming famous for saying whatever comes to their mind, as stupid as it may be, and when they are proven wrong they just say "OOPS, WELL, I'LL HAPPILY EAT MY CROW NOW. I GUESS I JINXED THE BAD THING FROM HAPPENING" How about you instead just call it what it is...crappy posting. Instead of just saying it was a "reverse jinx" or saying you will happily eat your crow, why don't you just try to make better posts? Nah, I pretty much do as I please. Why don't you stop trying to tell other people how to post? Oh the irony....you don't like criticism? I mean, I thought being called out for everything you do wrong is the norm around here....

Just wanted to highlight this post. I wrongfully though that last weeks 9th inning comeback would stop pointless crap like this, at least for a while, but I guess I was wrong... So here's a tip. Next time you want to call the game over (much less the next game as well)......don't. It's called the reverse jinx, sweetpea. I say that pretty much every time the Red Sox are losing. Plus, I've been around these parts a long time, so I couldn't care less about your advice. I just want to say that it's not just you doing this. Some posters recently are becoming famous for saying whatever comes to their mind, as stupid as it may be, and when they are proven wrong they just say "OOPS, WELL, I'LL HAPPILY EAT MY CROW NOW.
