Benny spraying the ball too. Two singles are to center, triple to right, double to left

Benintendi triple. This is fun. And a single. And a double.

Wasn't exactly pretty, but at least Hanley knocked that ball down. Also not used to seeing such a terrible throw from JBJ

Rich Hill done after just 2 2/3 for Oakland. Not too sharp, two HBP's, four runs allowed, two earned

Kind of seems like you think a .773 OPS isn't very good. That was the 19th best OPS out of 71 qualified hitters in the SAL. When you consider the age, as many have stated already, that's pretty crazy. Really excited to see what he does this season.

Really interesting. Basically, WAR might be undervaluing elite relievers. Conclusion: having an elite reliever is a really good thing for a baseball team to have

"coin flip" was poor wording. I should say that the games I've seen haven't felt like they were blowing the other team out. Maybe they pull away by the end, sure, but it wasn't like these have all be drubbings. The 2007 team played what, four games that weren't blowouts, maybe five? I haven't felt that, in the games I've watched, they've been blowing the other team out more often than not. Of course, I now realize this may be in part b/c I'm out of market and haven't seen every game, and now that I look, they did run off a few in a row that were easy. I don't think this team is in the same stratosphere as 2006, but aside from the Jets, there haven't been any coin flips. They were up 14 agains the Steelers and 13 against the Colts, before those teams scored garbage time TDs to pretty up the final scores. And they had an enormous lead against the Bills before completely taking their foot off the pedal. Again, not the same level as the '07 team in my opinion, but they've been clearly better than every opponent so far aside from the Jets. Agree. I've watched every snap of every game so far and the only games I've been stressed at certain points were the Colts and Jets. Steelers they led 21-3 at one point, Bills they led 34-13 at one point, Jags was over before it started, Dallas was a 24-point win and were in control most of the game, and obviously last night was easy. Colts game they were down 21-20 at half and the Jets led 20-16 in the 4th quarter. Really the only two games, for me at least, that caused any kind of stress for more than like the first quarter. And even the second half of the Colts game was pretty stress-free when they went up double digits. Garbage time scores what made the Colts, Steelers, Bills games closer than they were, as you noted.

Lots of good discussion here. I'll just throw my opinion out there. I'm not sure that signing Price, Cueto, Greinke is the answer. I'd rather go the trade route to add somebody. Would love Carrasco, but I don't see why Cleveland would want to give him up. I love the idea of going after Quintana. I don't see a reason not to love what he'd bring. 200+ innings three consecutive years, he'll be 27 on OD, he's under contract for a good price until 2018 plus two option years, consistent batted ball data, ERA, xFIP, etc.
Another thing I love is that he was third in all of baseball last year in first pitch strike percentage at 69%. (the top 11 of that list goes Scherzer, Lackey, Quintana, Chen, Harvey, Kershaw, deGrom, Zimmerman, Sale, Carrasco, Price). He's also been consistently above 65% with that the past three years. Obviously he doesn't get as many swinging strikes as most of those guys, but getting ahead consistently is important.
His curveball was 13 runs above average last year according to Fangraphs, which was fourth in MLB behind Felix, Kluber, Kershaw. He was 11th in that category in 2014, using it about 6% less of the time.
I think a rotation, in no particular order, of Buchholz, Quintana, Rodriguez, Porcello, Miley would be fine. I really think the defense hurt the staff so much last year, as the big gap between ERA (4.39) & FIP (3.92) shows. Pedroia's metrics were down at the start of the year, Napoli was not as good as he'd been previously, and obviously Hanley and Sandoval really hurt them. An improved outfield defense (Red Sox allowed the 4th most fly balls in baseball last year) will help a lot.
So, I just think the four we have in Buchholz, Rodriguez, Porcello, and Miley will work out, and adding Quintana instead of, like, Kelly or Owens, is certainly an upgrade.

So according to Jenifer Langosch, Lackey will start game one for STL.
If you would have told me that Ellsbury would be benched for a playoff game and Lackey would be a game one starter in 2015 after the way their 2011 seasons went.....

For those wishing there was more reporting, Ian's down there today, and Chaz is following on Thursday I think. Ian's already texted me some goodies involving numbers beginning with "9" followed by crooked numbers. I'm sure he'll hit Twitter at some point. Actually, let's play a game. Can anyone guess who this text was about? Gonna take a chance here and go...Ben Taylor

Just a random, interesting final stat thing here. Ortiz' 2014/2015 similarities have been noted, but how about Brock Holt?
2014: 492 PA, .100 ISO, .349 BABIP, 19.9% K rate, .281 AVG, .381 SLG, 98 wRC+, 2.3 WAR
2015: 509 PA, .099 ISO, .350 BABIP, 19.1% K rate, .280 AVG, .379 SLG, 98 wRC+, 2.5 WAR
Only major difference is the walk rate from 6.7% to 9.0%
