The Lowell Spinners will be retiring Ryan's number 25 on Wednesday June 25 during which Ryan and his family will be in attendance. I recall seeing Ryan play a number of times in Lowell and he had all the talent in the world and there was no doubt that he was going to make it to the majors and be successful. We all know Ryan's story and this would be a good opportunity to salute Ryan and his family. www.milb.com/promotions/index.jsp?sid=t558edit-corrected date.

...of course, Chris Parmelee. Because baseball. Because the Red Sox offense sucks.

Well these hitters are mailing this one in. Getaway day before a west coast swing has never been more obvious. This is embarrassing. Ortiz has been mailing it in for the last month or so. Let's see how this plays out next year when he is playing for his 2016 option based on plate appearances. If the Red Sox had any semblance of offense he would be sititng more often. This team is unwatchable the way they are playing.

Marshall and Gibson will both likely get 5 to 10 game suspensions for hitting Braun last night. While Braun is certainly not a very likeable guy, intentionally throwing at him twice is going to cost Marshall and Gibson quite a bit of money on top of a suspension. The Diamondbacks were likely throwing at Braun for Lohse hitting two batters and almost hitting a third attempting to bunt.By the way, the next batter (Lucroy) hit the first pitch for a game winning grand slam once the Diamondbacks and their fans got finishing cheering and high fiving Marshall. m.mlb.com/video/v33814719/milari-marshall-gets-tossed-for-hitting-braun/?c_id=mlb

Victorino will hopefully be back soon to play RF and Nava is providing some production in LF. I still hope that the Red Sox continue to work Betts in CF as they need to get more offense in the lineup. Perhaps Holt should get some playing time at 2nd or DH when Victorino comes back as Pedrioia and Ortiz have been providing little to no production over the last month or so.

The Red Sox pitchers should sue the offense for the lack of support. It is too frustrating to watch this team which is about as entertaining as watching paint dry.

Yeah I don't see them banning the Wave at Fenway. In fact they have doubled down this year with the Wally Wave which is even more moronic.

Ortiz has been pretty meh for the last month and he certainly is not producing where you would expect someone of his pay grade. Perhaps part of it might be age, part lack of lineup protection and perhaps part being that he has a guaranteed contract already for 2015. If he is still performing at this reduced level next year it could create some interesting dynamics as there is a vesting option for 2016 based on plate appearances.

Matt Huegel @matthuegelsp That suspension is not for PEDs, btw. Drug of abuse means something such as marijuana, cocaine, etc. Sad. Lumping marijuana and cocaine together is pretty sad, IMHO. Really don't get why American sports organizations feel a need to dole out additional punishment for marijuana use beyond whatever the law has to say about it. I am sure that MLB, the Player's Association, the Red Sox and agents have told every player in their system on multiple occassions that there are severe penalties for violating the MLB drug policies. The fact that there are numerous players who violate MLB drug policies every year and who are willing to potentially throw away their careers to feed their addiction is unfortunate and sad. I hope that Pena gets the help he needs, including training for an alternative career path.

Vermont keeps trying to get the Spinbers in the game with their 4th error and Duhon rubs into an out at 3rd base with Longhi on deck. That's Single A ball in a nutshell.

SRO in the Spinners dugout tonight... They must have up to 35 guys in uniform.
Joe Oliver their mgr and 3rd base coach could play nose rackle for the Patriots.

Don't know if this is somewhere else, but Cuban OF Rusney Castillo declared a FA Monday and will hold an open tryout soon. Looks like he has the arm for RF and the speed/defensive instincts for CF, based on the BA video shown. Looks better than any OF prospect we have coming up by a long shot (unless you count Mookie as an OF prospect now). linkNot picking on you but these are obviously highlight tapes. Castillo looks like he has potential but I am sure if there was a compilation of Manuel Margot highlights you would be equally impressed, particularly given that he is a lot younger.

If you have ever been to Lowell then you know it is a really low pressure situation with lots of families there as much for the in-game entertainment as there is for enjoying the game. I think it is a very good environment for recent draft picks as well as guys who are more advanced for the GCL. There is usually about 5,000 fans in Lowell and I suspect for most GCL games there are probably a few hundred. Additionally the bulk of the GCL Red Sox games are at 12 pm whereas the Lowell games generally have a mix of afternoon and evening games.
Devers is already getting significant attention from the likes of Badler, Parks, Speier, etc. Thus the hype machine is already in full throttle at this point for him. If he performs well in the GCL (presuming Gammons is correct that he has been promoted) then I hope to be fortunate to see him play in Lowell this summer.

I don't remember ever having been this unenthused about a Lowell season opener. Mild interest in seeing Nick Longhi, but otherwise, meh. If there is someone I should be jazzed up about, please let me know. Whitson was throwing up to 97 mph in the SEC tournament. Travis should be playing soon and we will hopefully see Devers up in Lowell over the next month. I think each of these guys would be good follows in Lowell. Looking forward to going to the game tomorrow night. please be careful when using the quote function - mods

The Gallo story is instructive about not burying a prospect after one bad year. Also, it further supports giving guys who have power abilities time to develop both the physical and mental aspects of hitting.

Peterson is probably my top post-10th round drafted players that I hope the Red Sox sign given his size, skills and projection. He obviously will be a tough sign given that he dropped so far in the draft due to an injury. He recently pitched in a playoff game and struck out 12 in 6 innings.

Polanco will finally be called up by the Pirates today and I suspect that they will put him in the lead off spot. He could make a big difference in the Pirates' lineup, however, they still need pitching. They might make a good trade partner between now and July 31 to the extent that the Red Sox decide to wait until next year.
