A trade for Hamels would put a big dent in the farm system which would be further compounding tthe mistakes made in the Lester negotiations. You would be acquiring a pith her who is less talented than Lesrer and significantly weakening your farm system when they need those trade chips to acquire a couple of bats. Put me in the against such a trade camp.

The biggest joke was the Red Sox waiting until the end of Spring Training and then only offering Lester 4 years and $ 70 million. He is as good as gone at this point as there is no way that the Red Sox will come close to offering what teams like the MFYs,Tigers, Rangers, Dodgers, etc will offer him once he hits free agency. The Red Sox should save themselves the embarrassment of any possible media spin that they made their best efforts to sign Lester and trade him between now and July 31.

Lee treated like a rag doll by the Guants last night. 12 hits and six runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Sell, Sell, Sell. This team has about a 4% chance for the second wild card which gets you a one game playoff. It is time to be realistic and trade Lester, Peavy, Gomes, and Breslow and build for the future.

Trading for an almost 36 year old ( he will be 36 on August 30) Cliff Lee would be just compounding the mistakes made in the Lester negotiations. This team needs at least two bats and I don't think an old and injured Cliff Lee is worth the money or prospects that he would cost to sign him.

I don't understand the fascination with Lee who is injured , on the downside of his career and would likely cost at least two top prospects who would be better used to try to acquire a bat.

This post AJ streak of winning 6 out of 7 is not very impressive when you see that it has cone set the expense of the White Sox, Astros and Royals. They play 7 games against the Blue Jays and 3 against the Rays between now and July 31. If the Red Sox don't start selling of guys like Lester, Miller, Gomes, etc between now and July 31 it would be just compounding the mistakes they already made so far this year as their chances of making the playoffs is less than 4% according to Baseball Prospectus. www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/

If the Sox offer 5/$120 and Lester turns that down I am fine with losing him. I fully expect our top offer to be no more than 5/100 though, and agree its time to put your best offer on the table now and trade him if he's not agreeable to it. Perhaps an offer of 5 years and $125 million might have worked this last offseason for Lester. However that ship sailed once the season started. He is as good as gone at this point as he is going to let this play out to free agency and the Red Sox likely won't be in the ballpark of other offers he is likely going to get from the MFYs, Tigers, Dodgers, etc.

I would not sign Lester for 5 and 120. Let the pretenders in the Bronx choke on that deal. Yu darvish is the answer. Owens, Webster ranauldo betts and maybe Margot should get that deal done! you forgot to add Swihart and Devers.

This team is about to go on a run. How many games before the trade deadline--10ish? They'll go 7-3. Where's the italics? This team is dead.

OK, i have seen enough. looks like the old Buchholz is back, WARM UP THE PEN! Or finally put out the for sale sign to admit they have no shot at the 2014 post season and start building for 2015 and beyond.

The Red Sox aren't going to offer Lester enough to be in the ballpark of other offers to sign him so it makes sense to trade him at this point. They blew their best chance to sign him by not making a significant effort to sign him after last season. All it takes is one team to offer them a top prospect and possibly a lottery ticket or two for Lester. Keeping him at this point is just extending the mistakes that they made last offseason.

Holding on to Lester at this point makes no sense. Neither does trading for someone like Hamels who is still owed over $90 million and would cost at least two or three top prospects. The Red Sox need to be honest about their limited post season chances and start a major sell off to build for 2015 and beyond. It should start with Lester and extend yo guys like Koji, Peavy, Gomes, Breslow, etc.

It seems pretty clear to me that Lester is going to be free agent at this point and there is little to no chance that the Red Sox will meet his asking price. If the Red Sox do not trade him before July 31 then it would be compounding the mistakes they made last offseason by waiting until the end of spring training and offering him a contract that they knew he would not accept. This team needs to adapt to the changing market as others have said.

Why not just give Lester the max offer they're comfortable with and if he turns it down trade him? Red Sox management already blew the chance of signing Lester when they waited until the end of Spring Training 2014 and offered him an absurb low offer. Lester's price has gone up significantly since then and now the Red Sox management are trying to play damage control by leaking discussions about a possible new offer when they know that Lester will likely go to free agency at the end of the season. It is time to trade him to the highest bidder as this team is not going to win anything this year and there is very little chance that the Red Sox will pay Lester $25 to $27 million AAV for 5 or 6 years which he is likely to get in free agency.

How is Cano the best in the business with respect to relay throws Harold? It was quite obvious from the replay that he was going through the motions like he usually does in the field. Reynolds is worse that Joe Morgan ever was.

The Red Sox had a chance to sign Lester this offseason yet they waited until the end of spring training and gave him a low ball offer. At this point it makes sense for Lester to go through the full free agent route which means that he likely will be gone. It makes no sense to hang onto him now unless you think that the draft picks would be better than what they believe that they could get in a trade.

Lackey and/or Farrell are not going to last much longer in this game with this brutal HP umpire. He has missed at least three strikes this inning alone.

Again - not a single strike to Papi. Perhaps he was distracted since Farrell told him that his kid has to get off the field during BP so Holt and Betts could work on refining their OF skills during live BP.

Glad to see Rizzo make the NL all star game. He also showed some big stones challenging the entire Reds' dugout after Chapham threw two 100 mph fastballs at Shierholz head in the 9th inning of today's game.

The afternoon sun seems to be affecting us more than them. Where are the italics? They can't hit when the sun is out? Buy some sun glasses, put on some eye back, see the ball and then hit the ball. The hitters on this team are disgraceful.
