How about hitting the catcher twice in the head with your back swing and then smirking after the catcher has to leave the game like Machado did today?

These post-game quotes from Showalter show how he is enabling immature players like Machado who was lucky that Kirby got between Jaso and Machado or a full scale brawl may have ensued. I get backing up your players but to suggest that Machado was not out of line in either bench clearing incident this weekend is ignorant on Showalter's part. It looks like Machado is going to have to learn the hard way as he is running away with the Arod POS award for 2014. touch.baltimoresun.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80445925/

This video of Machado smirking after Norris has to leave after getting hit in the head by Machado's back swing is also not going to endear Machado with the As and the rest of the league. Machado better armor up as he now will have a huge target on his back.

What a punk. That ridiculous reaction to Donaldson's tag yesterday was bad enough. After this, he deserves a suspension from MLB, and I'd think Buck will sit him down for a big talk about his general behavior on the field. Machado acted this series just like Arod. He is such an immature kid that needs to grew up. He should look at the reaction of Donaldson and umpire laughing at him after he took at exception to a tag play at 3rd base on Friday night and be embarrassed. He should get at least a five game suspension for throwing his bat intentionally after a couple of close pitches. Jones should sit him and set him straight or he is going to get hurt if he keeps acting like a little B.

Listening to Alex Speier's post draft show and he had Michael Kopech on. Kopech noted that he models his high leg kick Nolan Ryan, and he said that he tries to use uses his lower half of his body similar to Roger Clemons. He had four teams targeting him in the first round and he thought he was going to be picked by the Red Sox at #26.
Keith Law was also on. He considers Chavis as having a high floor, noted that he liked to pepper cars beyond the relatively short LF fence in his HS field. He thought other guys such as Harrison and Gatewood have such a high celing, high risk which may result in neither of them getting out of High A ball.
Law thought that Kopech will increase his velocity over time, but there is always the injury concern when you have guys throwing in the upper 90s. His advisor is his dad which may have tamped down his pre-draft buzz as he didn't have someone marketing him like a lot of the other potential draft picks.. Long limbed pitcher which makes it difficult to pick up the ball. Needs to generate more power from his lower half.
Law saw Travis play first and he thinks that he is athletic enough to play leftfield..One scout who Law trusts a lot liked Travis better than the Cubs' draft pick Schwarber. Travis has a short compact swing...weaker on stuff away... Great value pick
Cosart not as refined as his brother as he came into pitching late... Pretty raw...may translate better as a reliever.

Kendall is very intriguing with his speed and commit to Vandy. His speed and arm appear to be legit.,,I also like the fact that he is from a cold weather state, plays hockey and has the nickname honey badger. While he likely will be a tough sign nothing ventured nothing gained.
Peterson also appears to have the projection and physical skills which could translate very well in pro ball. Another likely tough sign he dropped big time due to a broken fibula which he appears to recovered from.

Law wrote that Travis could also play some LF. I think it would be good to have some positional flexibility as players advance through the system. I hope they can get Travis signed soon as Lowell's season starts this upcoming week.

I don't think you build a team by taking a lot of your top minor leaguers and mortgaging your future for one guy, even Stanton, McCutcheon, Kershaw, etc setting aside that none of those guys are available. The 2014 Red Sox are disappointing but I think you have to have a long term view and see that they have a number of guys such as RDLR, Ranaudo, Webster, Betts, Cecchini, Swihart, etc who can contribute over the couple of seasons. The Red Sox need to add a couple of bats either through trade or free agency to help them compete for the playoffs while they continue to introduce some of their prospects.
Not picking on you , but I would not classify either Devers or Ball as lottery tickets in the sense that they are highly skilled and received significant signing bonuses, albeit they are both probably at least three away from the majors.

I really don't understand the stupid "warning" rule. Why don't they "warn" both teams when there's a bench-clearing incident? It really seems like MLB absolutely wants one, but not more than one, intentional HBP every game. Bizarre. I think this is more a problem with the AL where pitchers do not bat. The NL pitchers have to be more accountable as they have to bat. One of the biggest problems are situations like the Red Sox and Rays had last week. There was clear intent on the part of Price to hit Ortiz however the umpires blew the situation by warning both teams. The better options would have been to throw Price out of the game or not issue warnings until Longoria was hit as a payback.

I found the specific bonuses here ....http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2014-draft-assigned-pick-values-for-top-10-rounds/
I suspect that they will be able save the following amounts...
McEvoy $250 k Mars. $110k Riley $75k Moore $100 k Sturgeon $125k
Total $660 k
Some of this excess may go to Steen, but I suspect that there may be around $500k available for a tough sign or two.

Anyone know the dollar values for the Red Sox top 10 picks? I am hoping that they can save enough through under slot signings to sign one or two guys who have slipped so far in the 2014 due to signability concerns.

Things heating up between Os and As tonight... Benches cleared once already after Machado took exception to a hard tag by Donaldson...Chen buzzes Donaldson with one pitch and then hits him on a 3-2 pitch.

Can't wait until Pierzynski is gone... He is so frustrating to watch as an impatient hitter and his defense is sub-par in every way.

DeCarr a good pick for the MFYs. I read somewhere that a number of teams tried to sign him as an undrafted free agent after last years draft with their available bonus pool money.

Once signed I expect that Travis will be assigned to Lowell, with Chavis and Kopech assigned initially to the GCL. I hope once he gets acclimated to pro ball to see Chavis play in Lowell by late this Summer.

Very pleased so far with the first two picks for the Red Sox in the 2014 draft. Like the high risk, high rewards approach.

Braves taking Davidson... Either Reid-Foley or Harrison would be a great pick for the Red Sox now.

If Fischer is there he's the pick. They took the high upside high schooler. Balance that out by taking the safer college bat. Fisher us a poor mans Rysn Sweeney with significantly less defensive skills... No thanks. I hope they have a shot at Harrison, Gatewoid, Or a Has pitcher. PS glad to see Blandino picked.
