Reading Law this am and really intrigued by this ... do people think the Cardinals are in play here? Bloom obviously knows Liberatore, is it crazy to think he'd be part of a Cards package? Anyone have any idea who else the Cards have for a return? (and two sides - would be in Rays interest to see Mookie in St. Louis obv, and I am vehemently opposed to the Sox trading the best player I or my 12 year old son may ever root for on the hometown team) "The elephant in the room is whether the Cardinals acquired Liberatore to keep him moving. They’re also in win-now mode, so adding a top starting pitching prospect who won’t likely see the majors until 2022 doesn’t align with their competitive window, while I would guess any of the teams currently shopping elite offensive players — I don’t know, maybe Nolan Arenado? Or Mookie Betts? — would love to see Liberatore added to a potential trade package." theathletic.com/1523959/2020/01/09/law-the-cardinals-swap-outfield-surplus-to-the-rays-for-a-top-50-prospect/?source=dailyemail

I'm not attacking by any measure, but I keep reading things like "they do not have the payroll budget to retain all three" ... how do you know that? Because ownership said they couldn't? Have you seen how much profit they brought in last season? According to Forbes their revenue in 2018 was $516 million dollars. Not bad for an initial investment of $380 million to buy the team just 16 years earlier. I understand dropping 10 slots in draft hurts, but this idea that the team just can't afford to keep one of the best players in my 50 years is beyond me. I know this is an AFL discussion so I apologize for veering in to an off season discussion.

Did anyone else gag in their Cheerios when they read this line in the Globe? I love what Duran has done, but for Peter Abraham to write in a paper owned by the Red Sox owner that he could help make it "easier" to deal Mookie is journalistic malpractice ...
If Duran shows he can hit advanced pitching, he could give the Red Sox an outfield option at some point in 2020. That would make it easier to deal Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts or Jackie Bradley Jr. this winter.

As the name implies, I did get a chance to see Nick a ton this Summer. Really quick bat, got better each week in the field. And makeup is off the charts.

Ignoring some of these silly posts, the subject of Chris Sale made me think of his old workout partner ... quick search just found this from Jon Heyman five minutes ago ...
Jason Groome is back ... 1IP, 1H, 0BB, 2K 93-95 for GCL Red Sox. picking up where he left off. Back from Tommy John surgery after 15 months, 6 days.
Encouraging

Really hoping someone has some info on Bakst - he was a Poly Prep player out of Brooklyn (NY player of the year) who was at Stanford playing as Frosh and Soph as infielder and pitcher but mysteriously (to me at least) was not on Stanford's roster this year - anyone know what happened?

Couldn't agree more. I remember asking two players from U of Arizona what they thought of him when he signed in 2004 - they both gushed that the Red Sox got an absolute steal. That he was the most annoying pest to play against in the PAC-12, but the best gamer they'd ever seen ... the guy's been trying to play through pain and for these twitter trolls and cowards to call him out is too much. Love this MLB scouting profile from when he was picked ... 65th, of course. Also shows that greatness can be found when you lose a first round pick.
COMMENT: PHYSICALLY MAXED OUT. SMALL, SCRAPPY FRAME W/ AVG STRENGTH FOR SIZE. SIMILAR TO DAVID ECKSTEIN. EVEN STANCE W/ FLEXED KNEES. SMALL LOAD & WEIGHT SHIFT. STEPS IN BUCKET. AVG BAT SPEED, EVEN PLANE BAT CONTROL W/ CONSISTENT CONTACT. HITS WHERE PITCHED. LOTS OF DOUBLES TO GAPS. INSTINCTIVE DEFENDER W/ SOFT HANDS, WORKS GROUND-UP, BALL DISAPPEARS. PLAYS WELL ABOVE TOOLS. HEADSY BASEBALL RAT W/ PLUS INSTINCTS. KNOWS HOW TO PLAY THE GAME. GUY YOU WANT ON YOUR TEAM. DOES WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN.

What do I want for 2019? For the Red Sox to skip their planned trip to the White House. There, I said it. For everyone who thinks baseball should steer clear of politics, well, we've been hearing that for over 100 years. And look where it's gotten the sport in terms of popularity.

height doesn't matter anymore - He's off the charts as an athlete - a DT or DE grasping at air is still at DT or DE grasping at air - he's that quick - but my god I hope he makes it as a ballplayer. The sport I follow, the sport that brings me to this site, needs 20 Murrays right now
