Just saw Gammons drop this note...
Peter Gammons @pgammo Red Sox 7th pick in draft and info:Georgia:scout Tim Hyers is Clint Frazier's neighbor and Austin Meadows' hitting coach.
I would settle for either one. Really want Frazier, but I would take Meadows over any of the 2nd tier college pitchers.

He's just so poised with two strikes. He literally looks like a 10 year veteran with thousands of plate appearances under his belt.

Will Middlebrooks has not looked good early on, he really struggled in Spring Training too. He is the one player I have felt uneasy about entering the season.

Six years is such a long time, so much can happen. Injuries, agent changes, ownership changes, etc. You can't operate with the premise that you won't be able to sign him six years from now. There are ways to get him to the minors for 9 games.

I really don't care what position they take as long as it's the best player on the board. It appears there will be a consensus top 7-8 by the time the draft rolls around which works out for us.
We need to hope Manaea and Stanek pick it up this Spring to push players down the board.
As of March 30th, who is everyone's choice for the pick at #7. I want Clint Frazier first. If he is off the board I want Gray, Meadows or potentially Bryant after I see more of him.

It may have been mentioned before on here, but I think it really helps to have the Marlins picking directly in front of us each round. Especially early I can't see them taking any of the tough to sign High Schoolers that we will have interest in.

With Gray moving up rapidly, Kris Bryant having a huge season, and it's safe to assume there will be one more player to shoot up boards before the draft (Kohl Stewart, Jon Denney, Chris Anderson). It's becoming more realistic that we could land Clint Frazier or Austin Meadows. Frazier is the kid I have wanted all along I think he is going to be a stud.
If we ended up with Bryant I would be okay with that, the big college bats picked at the top of the draft usually project well to the majors.

Pete Abraham @peteabe Told that Napoli could have returned to Texas but elected to take a one-year deal with the #RedSox.
That will buy him some good will.

This is a great move because it really limits the risk. If Napoli tears it up this season, the Red Sox can just tender him at the 13 million he would have made next year if the 3yr deal happend.

Can we please stop about Melancon now. He has now pitched for both the Red Sox and Yankees and alot was expected from him in both spots. What did both teams do? Shipped him off after a short stay.
It's pretty clear either his mental make-up or stuff greatly worried the sox after a one year stay back in the AL East.

While he pitched better at the end of the season, I feel like Melancon and Bailey are kind of repeatative. It also makes me wonder if the 2nd player coming back from Pitt, is a 4th OF or something. If Bard could somehow regain his 2011 form the Red Sox are gunna have a hell of a bullpen, which is a bigger deal then people have been making it out to be.. The best bullpen in the game is worthless if you're down by three by the time you see your first reliever enter the game. Thats absolutely false. With the offense the Red Sox are likely to have they will still be in games. How many times last year did the bullpen turn a 1 or 2 run game into a 5 or 6 run game. A good bullpen not only can keep the lead but they can keep you in every game and with a good offense that is extremely valuable.

Heyman says its a 4 for 2.
I'd think at least one more 40 man roster player is going the other way. I still think it has to be another pitcher. Will be interesting to see if the player the Red Sox get back is a roster player or throw away prospect.

JIM BOWDEN @jimbowdenespnxm Pimental and Sands are both in Hanrahan deal according to Pirates source
Neither a huge loss in my opinion.

Hanrahan is another guy the Sox will be able to place the tender on after the season if he has an All-Star season. I think these are smart moves.

According to Jon Heyman and Jim Bowden .. Jerry Sands is in the deal.
That's 1 40 man spot. I definitely think a pitcher from the 40 is going too.

I'm guessing it's going to be at least two people off the 40 man roster and a prospect. I'll guess Alex Wilson, an OF and maybe Workman or Cecchini.

John Perrotto @jperrotto Am told #Pirates now targeting #Dodgers SS Dee Gordon and #RedSox SS Jose Iglesias in Hanrahan trade talks now that Liriano is fold. As the centerpieces of a deal, I would do that. Maybe the Pirates throw in another player or prospect. The Pirates and Red Sox have been active trading partners the past few years, so they know each other well.
