RE: Longhi, have it on good authority that he spent the offseason retooling his swing for power (better launch angle and added a leg kick) and that he's been told he'll play outfield more this year (huzzah). However, he was sick most of the time we were down there, so we saw just one BP session from him. Longhi will be a Top 3 prospect by September, bet on it...

Superstar laden talent at all 3 OF positions. Top 5 SS in the game. Arguably a Top 5 1B in the game and a SP Staff with arguably 3 Aces.
Everyone is ? The GM.
This must be Boston

Dave Dombrowski is bad at his job. He buys high and sells low, he has no patience, he is beginning to resemble Rick Pitino as a GM that way. I will continue to posit the theory that Dave Dombrowski is the worst signing the Red Sox have ever made. All that said, F Buchholz! If he pitched like the #2/3 he was supposed to be, then Dombrowski doesn't give away Espinoza for a Pomeranz, who is destined to be our future left handed setup man. This feels like an F-you to Buchholz by picking up his option, chances are he could have gotten a 3-4 year deal at roughly the same AAS, chosen where to pitch and something tells me Philly wouldn't have been high on his wish list. Now the talking heads on the radio will need a new whipping boy The Team as constructed is the odds on favorite to win the AL pennant and a legit World Series contender. Now go back to your room and wait for Ainge to do the same..

If this was Clay's trade value, I totally don't get why we bothered to pick up his option. Tobias is not much, but he's something, and they clearly thought (and probably rightfully so) that they might be able to pry a better prospect for Buchholz. That said, if this was the best they could get for him at this point in time, I'd have waited a little longer and seen if a contender got a little more desperate. This return is not much more than a pure salary dump, and even if that's the market for Buchholz, I think they could have waited until closer to Spring Training to give up on their hopes of getting anything of value back for him. What value? The player is done and has been done for some time.. The better ? Is, why the option was picked up in the first place.. Trim another 12 to 14 million and call EE's agent..

Could not agree more. It had to be Lucchino interfering as always and trying to low ball Lester for some stupid reason. The fact that Henry, who made it clear that he wanted Lester back, didn't have the manhood to tell Lucchino to step aside and finish the deal himself is sad. The same can be side for how Henry dealt with Theo. He should have told Lucchino years ago to stay out of the baseball operations and given Theo free reign like he appears to have in Chicago. Theo should be the Sox Pres. of Baseball Op's with Hoyer, Hazen or BC as the GM. Instead we are stuck with Dombrowski and I am scared as heck that he is going to trade the farm after falling short this year in the playoffs. I take issue with the DDo comments. What is it based on? The only player of consequence he traded that was not blocked is AE. (and he was at least three years away from Boston which is outside the obvious window of contention that we have) The Kimbrell trade despite the slings and arrows of many for the volume/quality of players moved had no role on our team going forward. He dealt excess to land a closer who had the best first 4 years of his career than any closer ever and whose contract was reasonable and under control for 3 years. I believe the front office knew this team could contend this season (ergo the trade for a top notch closer) and in my estimation they should be the favorite to represent the AL in the World Series for the next 2 years. Your delusional if you think the Kimbrel deal was worth an "A" type prospect. Dombrowski's trade grade D- Price was a disaster. Again, the coin could have landed you Cueto for cheaper dollars and thus given you with saved money, the ability to sign a legit #3 arm Dombrowski's free agent grade F Retaining Farrell? Hahaha F

There is a lot of 20/20 hindsight and nostalgia in this thread. Yes, Theo is very good but there was also some awful signings and bad trades in his era too. Dombrowski has a great track record and he is one of the people im least worried about. There is nothing nostalgic about the Theo era. The fact of the matter is that when Theo was the GM and he had his crew and Tito was the manager the Red Sox were the best and brightest in the game. It is almost how the Kennedy administration has been referred to as "Camelot". Theo had a vision on what he wanted the Red Sox to be, but toward the end he gave in and started going against his principles to appease the Lucchino/Werner faction of the front office that favored brand and instant gratification over building a baseball team the right way (which could mean bridge years and rebuilding if necessary). I'll alway wonder how the Sox would have turned out had Theo been allowed carte blanche to build the team the way he really saw fit, without the interference from Werner and Lucchino, the way Dombrowski has been given carte blanche. Theo's dream job was to be the Sox GM, his team, but he left the job because he could see that his ideals differed greatly from ownership's and that when he started caving in (by building an uberteam in 2011), he knew it was time to leave and go somewhere else to build from the ground up. Thankfully Theo left the Red Sox his 2011 draft and Cherington kept those guys and made some "investment" deals that came to fruition in later years like Porcello and Wright. He had a creativity and vision that I don't know that Dombrowski really has. Dombrowski's thing is to "sort" out talent. He usually knows which prospects to trade in a deal, which is a theory that will be severely tested in the Espinoza case. Dombrowski did a good job building up the Expos and Marlins, the latter of whom he did win with, and he was able to rebuild the Tigers, but in a way that would make most of us queasy. I'm guessing most of his moves with Detroit were for instant gratification to appease his octogenarian owner. So I don't think he's the 100% trade all the farm guys GM that he's thought of around here, but he's also not the let's build through the farm and be innovative kind of guy I would think Theo or even Cherington was. I don't expect Dombrowski to solve issues finding a bargain like a Steven Wright or a Koji Uehara. He's going to buy top of the line items, which is more of a direct route to solve an issue, but can cause other issues, like committing huge dollars and years or dealing away prime prospects. It seems to me that while it's a credit to DD that he has stayed within the organization to find a GM, it seems to me the GM position carries very little clout, and is nothing more than a stepping stone to the next open real GM job elsewhere. I personally would rather the Sox employ the next Theo as the guy making baseball decisions than the current Dombrowski, not that he's terrible, but I'd rather have an innovative guy who blends statistical analysis with scouting. I think DD tends to be a lot more of the latter than the former while I think Theo mixed both pretty well. Epstein's best front office hire was BLaJoie Epstein was quoted recently, the pressure to win in Boston was immense. That quote in itself is enough to make any GM spend like a drunken sailor which we have seen time and time again in the Free Agent market not to mention some very ? Trades not named Lester or Lackey.. Welcome to Boston Dave

Ownership had 2 Aces, now they both pitch for the best team record wise in Baseball.. But, we got a 31 million dollar Ace! Thanks John, tom, larry, ben, Dave Go away you troll. You bring down the quality of this site. The truth hurts. Just admit it. You will feel alot better.. Ownership let go the best Manager in the franchise history. Ownership let go a homegrown Ace over peanuts but spend foolishly on a pitcher who has a playoff era higher than your IQ. Shall I go on?

LOL, Farrell is a complete moron! AB deserved an AB, Leon, save Young for Bradley 9 for his last 20.. What a joke.. If Farrell I'd not Sh!t canned by Wed, Dombrowski should resign himself.. Go kick a puppy named Leyland. Ownership had a Championship Manager. He's sitting in the opposite dugout

What warrants being fired will be 1 5 your last 6 with home field on the line and being swept in the playoffs.
If by a stroke of God Buchholz wins Sunday you throw Porcello in game 4 at Fenway with Price in game 5.
If that does not happen bye bye John
