I know the jury is still out with Bloom for a lot of you but I think he is right far more often than wrong in acquiring talent. Particularly getting cheap obscure pitching talent.

It is not officially a great win until Guidas says it.

We all hate losing to the MFY. Not gonna get too worked up about it at this point. Said going into spring training I thought the team was a bat and two pitchers short and I still think so. I am sure Bloom is will do his best to improve the team in due time.

Judge turns down 8 yr, $233M extension. Sure to draw media frenzy today. Very nice. A tall power hitter with a history of back problems. What could go wrong?

What was the projection, 90 wins? Let this be three of them.

Raffy and X probably would have opt outs after a couple years. Most big contracts seem that way now. I am leery about big long term contracts to most pitchers FWIW.

I d settle for him avoiding his customary 10 games before he gets it in gear. Normally a slow starter.

I'll say incomplete for now. I think they are a bat and two pitchers short.

I may be in the minority but I trust Bloom. I am sure he has looked at every angle and several moves ahead. He is a right handed bat that should do well at Fenway can play multiple positions, allows them to move on from JDM if they want, and doesnt leave them holding the bag if X leaves. If his throwing arm checked out then the team has definitely improved in a matter of hours.

And with all of that talent...they have 1 ring to show for it in a shortened season no less. The reason why they won is because they stole Mookie Betts for 25 cents on the dollar. An elite talent from outside their system. Make this a player development power house for sure but Xander and Devers 100% need to be kept. I honestly wished this team spent like the Dodgers. Up near the third threshold every year until they absolutely need to reset. What a life of luxury of not having to worry too much about losing your own free agents (with maybe a exception or two) and then buying Free agents on top of it. One bubble ring in 34 years. They are winning the exhibition season though. And by the way I'll be surprised if Kershaw makes 20 starts. Yeah I know he is a legacy player.

Normally I would conclude that anybody who amasses 132k for any reason is likely fairly intelligent. To spend that on this particular card I would say quite risky. I know, no guts, no glory.

People have been reading way too much into media speculation throughout this entire process even though it should be pretty clear by now the media has no idea which way Suzuki is leaning. Does anyone even have any idea if this Suzuki guy is an upgrade over anything they already have? The Red Sox don’t have a lot of luck signing guys from Japan historically. Just saying. Be careful what you wish for. Koji was pretty good.

What does everyone think about Kenley Jansen? Definitely could take the ceremonial Ortiz spot at the buffet. Hate it. I dont think he is far from being a major liability. Maybe one year on the cheap.

There was some question a while back about the future of JD Martinez in Boston if the NL went to the DH pondering by the beat writers. Well that happened so now I wonder?

I repeat why do all of you care what owners and players make. I do not. Does this replace barroom irreverent conversation? Bored or nosy? Because if the players got a fair share of revenues in the sport, and minor leaguers guy paid better, and owners stopped manipulating service time and losing on purpose, better athletes might be attracted to baseball and we might see better play on the field. That, and I’m tired of the way life today in general is tilted in favor of dishonest oligarchs and plutocrats. Post of the day and could not have said it better. Thanks for saving me the keystrokes.

Stupid question? Is there agreement on an international draft? Obviously dont want that as that is one of the few advantages this franchise has.

Wasn't it Tom Werner who was up against Manfred for MLB Commisioner? Not sure but Werner is still pretty much dispised in SD 30 years after his part in ownership there. The constant cries of small market poverty and fire sales were hall marks of his tenure.

Agree. It would be painful to trade the Ted Williams of this generation but it might be best to trade him for a boatload of prospects and use the money in other ways. That said could you see the dodgers in play trading a bunch of young guys? Yanks? Mets? Hypothetically how many guys would we have to add to say a Devers led package? Could the Marlins bring him down to South Florida for some young pitching? It would be tough to see who matches up bc whoever trades for him would want a decent shot at signing him. Mariners would probably have the capital but could they sign him? I think that people don't have any idea about how dominant Ted Williams was. By his age 23 season, he had 36.4 fWAR (and then went to war for 3 years). Soto has 17.7. To be fair, 586 games for Williams and only 464 for Soto, but still it's not even close. Trout is the only person that can be compared and he still was nowhere near as good of a hitter. The most mind boggling thing about Teddy Ballgame are the career numbers despite missing five seasons. Also how many of todays players would have sat out the season ending double header in 1941 to protect the 400 average? I would guess most who found themselves in that situation.
