Here’s the problem, who do you give his playing time to? The overall lack of MLB depth kind of forces them to wait it out with him. Rusney, obviously 🙄 Should I have italicized that? 😂 JBJ just passed 5 years & cannot be optioned. Rusney may soon become tradeable. 5 years of low cost control remain. And the 22 million he's owed drops by 2 million each month.

Swihart back at the end of the bench. 2 ABs in last week. 1 for 26 going back to time in Bos. One hit traveled 20 feet.
Marcus Wilson hasn't hit. But he is in the lineup.

It's different than page after page after page of saying the same thing over and over and over again. I have no problems against fuzzy fruit. I'll lay off the fruit post. Maybe lightening will strike and JSmith will pitch effectively before they get around to junking him. That would be a lucky. O Felix culpa. I have 2 catalpa saplings growing by my driveway

In 1965, Sox lost 100 games.. 27 years later, 1992, Sox finished in last place. 27 years later is 2019. 3x3x3= 27. The cycle will pass, so enjoy it now. Wow! This is irrefutable evidence that the fire sale should start 20 minutes ago. I wish I had an opening in my analytics department... /s The 1919 Sox finished 20.5 games behind. The 1947 Sox finished 14 games behind. The 1968 Sox finished 17 games behind. The 1976 Sox finished 15.5 games behind. The 1987 Sox finished 20 games behind. If these are your grandfather's Red Sox, the misery will last all year.

I still think the Swihart move was a panic move. I guess we'll learn st some point how much of a hitter he is, but we'll never know how much of a catcher he can be as it seems like Arizona wants to use him in some sort of super-utility Brock Holt/Ben Zobrist type of role. The only question I have re: the transaction is did AZ have claiming rights because they were the first team with the worst record to claim him and the Sox had to deal with them or is it a case where there can be multiple claims and the Sox have the choice of what trade they like best among the claiming teams? In other words was there ever a chance that a team that could have had him catch every day could have claimed him? Or did AZ practically get first dibs? Swihart never went on waivers, so nobody claimed him. Sox worked out a trade before they had to waiver him. The dfa period is 7 days, waivers takes 48 hours .... So a team has up to 5 days to work out a trade if they choose to use the entire period.

Thornburg is out of options. Are you assuming he'd clear waivers? I hadn't realized that his 8 MLB games in 2012 came mid-season instead of the end, so you're right. They could phantom IL him and send him down to rehab, or they could outright him. I don't think anyone claims him given his $1.75M salary. FYI: www.soxprospects.com/40man.htm40-man roster is good resource for Options remaining. See column on right. Reminder that players with 5 years mlb service cannot be optioned. such as Holt, Bradley (attained 5 this month). players with 5 years mlb service cannot be outrighted involuntarily, i.e. Thornburg.

Do we still get to add a player to the roster for the double header tomorrow? Lakins? "If the postponed or suspended game was from the previous day, a "26th player" can be temporarily added to a club's MLB Active List for the second game only. " Looks like game 2 gets a 26th man

With the lefty on the mound, this was tonight's announced lineup:
Benintendi LF, Betts CF, Martinez RF, Bogaerts SS, Pearce 1B, Chavis 3B, Vázquez DH, Lin 2B, León C, Sale LHP.
I doubt we'll see Vazquez at DH in the doubleheader.

The 10 Day IL don't suggest much, it was either that or th 60 day IL. Eovaldi could be out a lot longer than the 10 days if he gets the surgery like he intends to. Forever45, He's not eligible for the 60-day IL. Not today. u gotta review these details, as many of us hope to see u as moderator one day soon.

Just remembered the fake turf in TB.
If we see Chavis in the field, I would say it'll be 1B.
Edit: no Chavis Saturday. Leon catcher, along with same 8.

So much complaining and then a Red Sox win. Being a Boston fan in a single sentence right there. For the 7 year period, 1968-1974, the Sox won 84 to 89 games each year. Could the contemporary fans handle something like that?

When do we find out if Swihart was claimed? What is the timeline? I assume he would get claimed but hoping somehow he doesnt A team has 10 days after DFAing a player to trade him or let him go claimed, unless they changed that rule. It will happen way sooner than 10 days though. He'll probably be gone by the weekend. A lot of teams should be in on him. The rule was changed to 7 days. Waivers is 48 hours, so assume they have up to 5 days to play around with trade attempts. If he's not on waivers already, they have until day 5 to put him on. Sunday. Tuesday is day 7. www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3535Edit: if this transaction was Tues morn ... I believe the latest he can go on waivers is Sat 2 pm, coming off Monday 1 pm.
