A pitcher goes through a very short stretch of 40 innings having some luck with flyballs not leaving the yard and suddenly a bunch of people on internet message boards think this is some kind of magical talent he has. After that he regresses heavily to the mean just like every other pitcher and everyone forgets about it. This story repeats itself so often that it sounds like a broken record. 1 season there (2013) I see Wilson with poor GB numbers at 31%. See him with 43.9% in 2014 and 47.8% so far this year. Those are pretty decent numbers for anyone.

Alex Wilson is thriving in Detroit. Yeah. Another guy really never given a chance. kind of like Scott Achison, who was quite a bit older and did have an injury later on of course, but before the injury? Francona just wouldn't give him any kind of a break, even when he was effective until Valentine did in 2012. Certain people that seem to never fit a mold in Boston and get that break. Unfortunately? guys like Breslow continue getting them and the team refuses to cut bait.

Playing Leon no more than 1 game per week would have helped a lot also these past 3-4 weeks also after Swihart learned more and more about the pitching staff and MLB life in general. Leon really only has his throwing arm as a positive attribute, the rest of his game is a detriment to the team and should be getting limited exposure.
Would a team place a claim on him if he was waived over Swihart? The bigger answer is.. Would it really matter.

Until this offense gets both Ramirez and pedroia back? It's going to be pitiful to watch.

Yuck, it's these fugly uniforms again. Man... I loved those things.. Especially compared to the ugly blue ones they wore in the 60's.. Miley looks almost exactly like Reggie Cleveland BTW.. Except for being LH, rather than RH like Reggie was.

GCL Sox improve to 5-0 with a victory over someone beside the GCL Rays (Twins today). 11 hits for the Sox. Nice outings from all 4 guys that took the mound today. Ramos, Aybar, and Lameda all with 2 hits apiece. Roldani Baldwin with a 2-run jack. I say this every year.. REALLY would love to see GCL teams play everyone within the state. It's only a couple of hours away to the furthest team and look at the Sox? They play within a 4 team competition. GCL Tigers, who I mainly watch at least play within 6 teams, but they should play all since they are so close is my own 2c.

Take 2 for Cosart! Here's to the sequel being better than (or at least equal to) the first! Like to see him get at least a cpl of starts in at Greenville before the season is over.

Josh Pennington getting the start for the GCL Sox. Nice on Pennington and a pretty quick R&R from return for a pitcher was it not? 1 year for a pitcher? Or is that just the best results for a pitcher? Edit: In automotive industry.. R&R is Rebuild and Return, not Rest and Recuperate...

This same board that is happy when this team has cost controlled contracts in advance.. See past deals with Dustin Pedroia, Clay Bucholz, Jon Lester.. Under slot deals with any draft picks... Yet shows this all for the working stiff when it chooses only on selective occasions? Some people here are really confused and it isn't myself and a couple other I could name off. Yes, it would help the team I root for if their players sign below-market deals. No, that does not mean that Scott Boras should be demonized for being the best agent in the business. It's not a zero-sum game, especially in baseball, when the only real salary constraint is an owner's willingness to open his pocketbook. By the way, this whole meme that Boras corrupts players into being greedy or whatever is totally false. He is not some Sith overlord who gets them to betray their values. The players choose to hire him and instruct him to get them the best offers available. If they only want him to negotiate/sign with their hometown team, he'll do so (see, e.g., Jason Varitek or Jered Weaver). Agree to disagree with you again.. This topic got way off near the top and don't want to get into another major disagreement with you, who with sports, for the most parts I *do* agree with you most of the time JMEI.

Why IMO Boston dearly needs to approach Betts and his current agent.. Relatively Baseball before one of Boras's snakes that follow budding stars around the game convinces Betts to switch and there is -0- hope of any LT, cost controlled deal.. Much like the team will be looking at shortly with Bogaerts. It is one of the great cons of our era that the billionaire owners of professional sports teams have made players and agents look like the bad guys for demanding a market salary. Remember that when Bogaerts, under the guidance of Boras leaves after the 2020 season, or id demanding "X" amount of dollars in arbitration in years 3,4.. etc.. Prior to leaving under the guidance of Boras. Some snakes you know protect their "flock" past losing their 1st shedding of skin.. Including several species of rattlesnakes.

It's kinda funny, like when the Chinese government quotes The Onion to make some disparaging remark about the US ... but I'm not bothered by it. I see it less as a negotiating tactic and more the expressions of pure joy from a dude who must feel like he died and went to sports agent heaven. "OHMYGOD DID YOU SEE WHAT MY GUY JUST DID?!?! I SIGNED HIM!!!!!" It's going to be funny when Espinoza ditches him for Boras in two years. Why IMO Boston dearly needs to approach Betts and his current agent.. Relatively Baseball before one of Boras's snakes that follow budding stars around the game convinces Betts to switch and there is -0- hope of any LT, cost controlled deal.. Why is that a stretch? Johnson due to start today and Masterson is up with the Sox right now. Id rather have Wright start over Masterson but im expecting Masterson. They owe Masterson 9.5m.. Guess which one is going to get the start, regardless of which one has the best chance of success time after time?

Wow, didn't know Joel Pineiro was still active. He's been around forever. Take a look at his numbers since '11. Not much since his last MLB season. Injured (go figure) maybe?

Making plans to head to the Fort for July 4 weekend.. They are home 7/4 and 7/6. Wife to the beach and my son and myself to the games on Saturday and then Monday. Espinoza may not be there, but hoping more of the newer draftees arrive. That is one "understanding" wife you got there John. Enjoy. I hope you see Anderson Espinoza! Hopefully you'll see one of my favorites in the "Jagger" man. Hoping there will be more than 1 trip this year. I am not able to drive any longer and depend on them. When she finally retires, this will hopefully happen several times per summer since she likes the beach and my son is also a Sox fan.

Agree whole heartedly with that assessment Chris. Kopech's Mechanic's from the set position, or with men on base definitely need work as anyone who has watched several of his games can attest to. Whether or not they think someone at Salem is better to work with him on that issue? It seem questionable.

I wonder if Devers follows the Travis promotion, assuming it comes after the CAR all star game. It's not like Jordan Betts is blocking him, and they could just give Betts reps at 1B instead of 3B. I would be all for that. Yeah.. It would put more pressure on both himself, as well as Chavis by not giving Chavis a break with days off from him rotating games at 3b, but IMO? Chavis needs more reps at both 3b and at the plate. His pitch recognition for off speed is not looking good to me. He's chasing way too much Reminds me of WMB in that regard right now and rather than having one of his 2-3k days.. Sit for a day and come back? let him play continually, even though he HAS been striking out a bit less the past week or so.

Travis could definitely be promoted to Portland himself soon. He seems to be moving somewhat under radar, but he is does seem like the real deal as a hitter. Wouldn't be surprised if his power starts to increase. As you wrote in another article also.. That Portland team is hard to watch.. Add Travis, along with Margot and it becomes interesting again.. Maybe Lin, who has finally begun to hit? It becomes a fairly exciting team once again like it was a couple of years back.

I've seen 3 of Guerra's 8 homeruns this yr. the 1st was a wall scraper down the left field line that just cleared the monster at the 310' sign. He hit 2 at the game I attended last week and they were both shots that cleared the bull pen in RF 350+. He's got power Saw 2 in last year's GCL Finals at Tampa (1 in Game 1, other in game 3) He pulled one to RF and other was closer to RC/C. I'd guess at the one to RC/C going over 400f, it was really crushed. Neither was any doubt.

Didn't Quintero have an opt out with the Sox? Hard to imagine him not being upset and using it if he didn't with him stuck at Pawtucket and them bringing in someone else no better for this short term fix.

@benbadler Anderson Espinoza was promoted to GCL! He must be there on next Tuesday What great news (at least for me!) Let's think positive and hope there is a GCL finals series involving Ft Myers in the center part of the state.. ANYWHERE this year and Espinoza pitches one of those games.
