I liked the (albeit small) show of emotion from Groome as he got out of that last inning. One of the things (was it Abbott?) said about him at the alt site was they wanted to see him compete, even in bullpen sessions. He's going to have to battle to reach his potential.
Positive steps lately.

While it seemed Bello was featuring a nasty changeup before, last night it looked like it was the slider that was featured. Exciting stuff from him.

Bello put together some high strikeout outings in 2019 too. Has had ups and downs, but the highs have been impressive. Intriguing guy for sure.

Drohan is interesting. Nice to have some fun pitchers to follow in the low minors.

Devers' O-Swing% of 40.3% is 14th-highest among qualified hitters. That said, his O-Contact% of 70% is 49th, so he's still making contact on those swings (although potentially and probably worse contact?). That said, his aggressive approach might just be part of the package. His 8.6% called strike percentage is third-lowest among qualified hitters, behind only Albies and Corey Seager. He's aggressive and that's part of why he's successful. If the aggression comes with .288/.375/.576*, I'm ok with it, although I certainly agree it would be nice if he cut it down a smidge without losing anything... * - Without actually running the numbers, that he still has a .087 ISOD as aggressive as he is on pitches outside of the zone is kind of impressive, I feel like. blogs.fangraphs.com/rafael-devers-still-has-another-gear/Fangraphs seems to have been reading this thread. The article hear basically talks about Devers' contact quality/discipline and how if he zoned in a bit more and has some regression (in a positive manner) he's in line for a crazy good season.

Great year to have a bad year it seems. Happy to have the top 4 pick but don't want to be anywhere near here again (until the picks can be traded).

Honestly, just want to see some hard contact. Outside of JDM no one has found the barrel.

Jeter Downs feels like one of those prospects that doesn't wow you when you see tiny samples since all his tools are good not great. Then you look up at the end of the season and he puts up good numbers and justifies his ranking. Feels like the perception of him is down a bit here because he didn't have 100+ games in our system to showcase his quality.
I anticipate him still being ranked highly nationally due to the lack of info out there this year.

Btw Bloom signed on with the Sox fully expecting and wanting Cora to be his manager. To say Cora is not Bloom's guy isn't totally true.

Devers is percolating. Good to see him, Verdugo, and Bogaerts looking good as we look to '21

Devers is the biggest story for the rest of the year for me (maybe Benny too but to a lesser extent). Currently, he's got the lowest BB% and highest K% of his career. All SSS caveats apply, but he's been a negative for them through 21 games played. Even in a lost season I want to see him start to snap out of this since he's so important to the future direction of the club.

Devers needs to use the whole field and shrink the zone. He's been woeful.
I've only watched this year to hope Xander, Devers, and Verdugo play well, but even that hasn't really happened.

Is Vandy the favorite for the CWS next year? Sheesh two pitchers in the top 3...

universal DH (likely) becoming a thing makes Blaze an even better pick. I'll put on my rose-colored glasses and dream of Blaze/Casas becoming the new Manny/Ortiz

It is a different profile of skills than usually is picked this high. Especially with the limited scouting looks this spring.
Is he better/different than Cannon (their first pick last year)? Seems they're sort of targeting this profile in Downs, Cannon, and now Yorke.

Just read both of them and they are great. Very cool snapshot of the depth chart and what we can look forward to following when(if) baseball comes back this year.
Thanks Ian and Chris!

Dang was hoping Bakst would pan out, but clearly he has something going on and baseball just hasn't been worth it to him. Maddox has had a rough go of it in recent times. Bummer.

I wonder if a trade with Hou for Arauz could be in the works. He's interesting and having him in the system would be nice, but it's tough to see him sticking in MLB this year.

Law always values the premium positions. He seems to usually be higher on the super young SS's and CF's than the rest of industry; thus pushing down the 2B and 1B types unless they're close to the majors or outliers.
That said, the 60-90 range seems to be somewhat common for these two so far iirc.

Wanted to float this Mata thread up to the top considering he is our highest ranked pitcher and will be in AA at 20!!
Personally, I will be very curious to hear what starts to be said about him during spring training as he's in big league camp (to start) for the first time. I know our system hasn't produced pitching, but it seems like the scouting reports on him are some of the most optimistic in terms of starting potential that we've had in some time.
Based on the reports on this site, it is curious that the industry seems a bit lukewarm on him as a prospect. Is the 2018 control meltdown the main reason for that?
