Unlike some, I have not dismissed the idea of James Shields signing. 4 or more years would be beyond my comfort level. He is a competitor who would be a good signing at 3years at around 20 million per. Plus, his record at Fenway is skewed. For the past three years, Shields record at Fenway has been:
By Stadium ERA W L SV SVO GP GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG Fenway Park 1.80 1 0 0 0 3 3 0 20.0 16 5 4 1 6 16 .225

While James Shields is not at the level of Zimmermann or Strasburg, I am not sure why many on the site express concern about Shields signing due to his fly ball ratio but do not have the same concerns about Zimmermann or Strasburg?

According to Heyman, there seems to be movement in Scherzer talks. I wonder what the start of the dominos means for red soc.

Rosenbaum had TJ surgery in May. Will he be ready in May? Or, is it more likely that he will sit out the year?

A general question to those who are more stat savvy than I am, what is the best measurement to evaluate pitchers? With Pedro slated to go in to the Hall today, era plus has gotten a lot of attention. WAR (either fwar or bwar) is always a favorite from those like myself who grew up with the early stat guys.

Has there been an announced corresponding move?

Teams get burned for trading prospects for marginal talent. What was the last time a team got burned for trading prospects for a top player? Trading for Gonzalez with a favorable contract then is akin to trading for Sale now. It is fruit for thought as the Red Sox explore an ace.

The Banuelos trade shows the risk of incorrectly evaluating a pitching prospect, and keeping him too long. I hope the Red Sox make the right calls on their pitching prospects.

I am surprised some team (and I would like it to be the Red Sox) have not signed Badenhop for a 1 or 2 year contract at between 2 to 2.5 million per.

I like the idea of the trade to the Angels, but would keep Craig on roster and add another utility infielder at AAA. Bedrosian would be a quality choice. Joe Smith would be a good possibility as well if the Angels would prefer to keep what few quality young players that they have.

San Diego has an interesting approach. It is accumulating what it deems to be assets, and churning them. It is too early to look at their lineup as the roster will continue to be churned. I am not sure if it will work but it is interesting.

The Marlins do not want to create a hole so Eovaldi is the name they are offering if Haren agrees to report.

It is possible to sign Shields now and possibly make a trade with Nationals at trade deadline if they figure that they can not resign Zimmermann.

I would suggest a separate thread is made for comments about Wesley and place all reports from him there.

3 of the team's top 10 including 1 top 5 according to baseball America should be more than enough for Amaro to placate the phillies fans, and more than other teams can/will offer. Owens/Johnson, Barnes, Cecchini/Marrero would be a good base along with 1 or 2 players of fillers (sub top 20).

In Buster Olney's article today, he speculated that Sean Doolittle should be made available and specifically mentioned the Red Sox. If Miller does not resign, Doolittle would make a great addition if the prospect cost is reasonable due to Doolittle's talent and reasonable contract.

Agree that it is reasonable. However, the deals for RH will be overpays due to the scarcity.

The.moves by Blue Jays and Red Sox are making the Yankees look worse than bad - irrelevant. They will make an overpay soon either in money or money/prospects? Who do you believe that it will be? Mad Max? Lester? Hamels?

I am wondering if the Braves demands for Upton led teams to inquire more seriously about Cespedes which is leading to Ramirez being fast tracked.

I wonder if Ortiz spoke to Sandoval about the higher endorsement opportunities in Boston. Sandoval may be able to come close to the $5 million that Ortiz made last year (top 3 in MLB)
