I'm not crazy about the signing and I was really hoping we avoided him, but after reading through this thread, I'm coming around on him.. The Flying Hawaiian's bat does not impress me, but, he creates roster flexibility, has CF defense in our spacious RF, is a gamer, and will add a decent clubhouse presense.
This isn't going to vault us into contention, but it does allow BC the room for some creativity, just like the Napoli signing. Salty and Ellsbury are essentially expendable once the right deal appears. Whether that's this offseason or in the near future doesn't really matter. He can waity for the right package(s). C'mon Wil Myers!

MLB - 2 Red Sox - 6 Org - 4 Misc - 4
Total: 16
Question. Was Lars Anderson no longer a top 60 prospect when he was traded?

Good signing! As others have stated, in order to avoid the extra year, you must overpay a bit.
Does this mean Pedey get's bumped from his Emergency Catcher role?

How is Moore any better than a guy we already have, Sands? Not advocating we start Sands, I just don't see why we would trade for a guy that seems comperable to someone we already have.

If you add up the low number, you get 166 taters not counting the bench. This line-up will play well defensively and give us decent power. That's a lot of solo HRs and strikeouts. Who besides Ortiz & Pedey is actually going to get on base in that lineup? Not to mention the HR numbers for Napoli and Ells are pretty high, though Napoli does kill the ball in Fenway. I guess my problem is guys like Napoli, Victorino and Ross are fine if they are your 6-8 hitters, not 4-6. At least not in Boston. I can appreciate the fact they they don't cost much to acquire, but there has to be a better 4 hitter out there. I know we are talking cheap options for a "bridge" year, but I want more out of the lineup than that. Maybe I need to better manage my expectations.

Can someone please let me know why the amounts do not follow worse record to best? Why are we only at this figure and, say, Kansas City is so much higher and have a better record? Perhaps to account for the Competetive Balance picks?

Bill Mueller is a name i heard today. I'd like that. This is really getting silly. I hear Dave Roberts and Kevin Millar are now candidates as well.

I don't care about the #6 pick vs. the #7 pick. No clear drop-off at this point. I'll trade that for a win vs. the Yankees knocking them into a playoff. I have to agree with this. I want to see the O's go for the Division Title. We've got our draft pick.

I swear I saw Sergio Gomez ranked by a few people. Am I missing him on this list?

I know we are trying to avoid the fan boy optimism, but I still don't understand the pressing need for an ace pitcher (I know the thread didn't start this way, but it seems to have headed there). Before this season, Lester was one of the top 5 LHP in all of baseball. 4 very consistent years. Why, after one statistical aberration are we suddenly feeling like he's no longer an ace?
Clay and Lackey are very good 2/3's. Clay has been very inconsistent in his career, but Lackey, prior to Boston was relatively consistent and 2/3 material that ate up a lot of innings.
Doubront, like most rookies had an inconsistent year. Looked very good initially, then faded a bit. It took Buchholz how many years to finally stick with the big club? He has never pitched this many innings in his career. I think we should have expected him to fade. Like others have said, he is young, cost controlled, and has a lot of promise. Ace material, no, but we only need him to be a 3/4/5. I agree with the poster who said these are the guys we should be trading for, not away. Unless we get a true middle of the order bat back in a trade for him, we need to keep Doubront.
In my opinion, like I believe the OP stated/implied, a middle of the rotation SP is what we need. A guy like Grienke would be a luxury. If we can afford him, take a run at him; otherwise stick to the mid-rotation guys that we can get at a better price. I don't think an ace is a must have.
Call me crazy, but as scary as it sounds, I'm really leaning towards using our funds on Hamilton at this point to [help] solidify the offense.

I'm still trying to figure out how to tell what posts in a thread you've read and which ones you haven't. Posted somewhere else: Click the NEW icon next to the thread name. Brings you to the first new post.

The Black Font on a Blue background is impossible to read. The main example of this I have seen concerns the "breadcrumb" links above the forum/thread. For example, it reads "SoxProspects.com Forum :: SoxProspects.com :: SoxProspects.com Meta Forum :: Corrections" above this thread.
I guess there are also black font links at the bottom of the page as well (Click here to make the board ad-free", etc.
