So without all these guys, is what the yankees doing sustainable? Can we expect some regression back to the pack?

Need to win game 1. Restore the mystique of Chris Sale vs. the MFYs

Another HR last night for Casas. Once Chavis graduates from prospect status I think that Casas is easily the new number 1 in the system.
Darwinzon seems less and less likely to stick as a starter, and it appears that Casas might really be a special hitter. First season as a pro, and I am very very impressed.

Devers is like 75% of this boards child, and any time someone criticizes him we go mama bear on them. It's hilarious.

Another bullpen arm and a RHH 4th Outfielder are obvious needs to be addressed at some point. But great win!
Mookie seems bound to get super hot. He's walking at a career high rate, and is a few extra base hits away from looking like the absolute force he is. That said his current 134 WRC+ is still awesome.

Koji announce his reitrement this week, and it brought back great memories. Maybe my favorite development from that 2013 team, besides the heart-felt connection to the city, was watching the maestro that Koji was. Ruthless efficiency with a vivacious energy. The most automatic thing about that team was that Koji would come in and the game would end. Then he'd run off the field, high five everything in sight, only to end up getting bear hugged and carried off the field by Big Papi. He was the closest thing the Red Sox have ever had to Rivera. His entrance at Fenway to "Sandstorm" came to rival Rivera's "Enter Sandman". He was just a lot of fun to root for and someone who I will always look back on and smile. Cheers Koji!! Fangraphs has an article about Koji's career and it's very interesting to read about his early Japan years. blogs.fangraphs.com/koji-uehara-hangs-it-up/

^^I would assume its his batted ball profile. Too many groundballs and nowhere near enough fly balls, especially to the pull side

Devers and Mookie both have a spurt of HRs coming their way soon At least Devers is trying to prove me right!

I think he’s got to be leader for AL ROY right now, yes? The 2nd basemen on Tampa is up there too but Chavis can't be below the top 3 at the moment

He's lost all semblance of rhythm in his swing. Hands, head, lower-half, all of it seems to be pulling in different directions.
Sad to see.
EDIT: guess he fixed himself for that HR today

In all honesty, the Red Sox could use a lefty in the bullpen. That Blackmon AB was a prime spot for a matchup lefty and the Red Sox just don't have the option. Eck even said this during that at bat.

Yeah, how do you even measure the WPA on that? Not only did it save the game, it turned what would have been one of the most dismaying losses of the season into hands-down the sweetest victory. As long as I'm being a bummer, the spectacular nature of that play doesn't actually make it any more valuable than just scoring a couple runs in the fourth inning or whatever. One of them is obviously a much more memorable way to win the game, but a win is a win is a win.

Looks like he completely changes his swing/stance with two strikes. The crouch comes back and the leg lift leaves when he gets to two strikes. Interesting.

Plenty to be optimistic about and I even think JBJ will end the season with a reasonable stat line, but I've got to wonder how many "one of worst starts to a season" JBJ has in his back pocket at this point? Edit: I had to look it up, his career OPS in March/April is .606. It's crazy, if you took away the first month of the year he'd be around a .750 OPS guy. There's got to be a way to fix that, right?Considering his spring training prowess, maybe JBJ should just stay in XST every year till the calendar turns to May (kidding, sort of)

Casas has been heating up recently. Considering the pretty aggressive assignment thats a very encouraging sign. Hope that he keeps rolling.

The last few games it has seemed like CHavis has missed a lot of very hittable pitches. Plenty of middle middle pitches going by without any damage.

Little return to Chicago what the doctor ordered for Sale?
This stretch of the schedule is where the Red Sox really need to do some damage and get back in the mix.

I really don't get your argument right now. There's 30 teams, at least 5 if not more who regularly spend on big contracts, and based on your examples the Red Sox are almost 50% in winning the bidding wars. Considering the amount of competition that seems pretty damn good to me.
You can add Hanley's deal to the "wins" column as well. You can quibble with the value but you can't argue that the intent to win a bidding war hasn't been there.
