I know I'm in the minority here but I bet Story kicks "butt" next season. He is an elite talent that has not been close to healthy so far for us. Unless he pulls a "Sale", he will be dynamic next season. Folks are too quick to bury a player. Just stay healthy Trevor!! I'm most of the way there with you, I think the days of "elite" production from Story are gone but I do think he will be an above average SS for them next year and flirt with a 20/20 or better season. I doubt if his BA, OBP of K% are going to be pretty but with his defense he will provide enough value that many on the board will be happy he's a Sox. Thanks! BA -- .250 OBP -- .325 SLG -- .490 SB -- 25 HR -- 25 K-Rate -- 28% Fielding -- Gold Glove

I don't deny the appeal of someone like Soto, but at some point as an organization you have to stop chasing at baubles and actually build a functioning roster. All Soto does at this point is exacerbate the LHH and LF/1B/DH issues that are rapidly building up. I'm sure that you could alleviate those problems in other ways, maybe to get some of the pitching we need. Is anyone ready to trade Casas as the centerpiece in a deal for ace-level pitching, if indeed any suitors are entering the market with that type of quality they are ready to part with? Devers, including paying some of his salary for the next decade? Certainly Yoshida could be jettisoned. Duran? I'm not saying all of them, but a couple certainly have to go, almost regardless of what the return is. I agree we have way too many left-handed hitting outfielders, especially. I started this argument but I have no interest in moving Mayer or Anthony for Soto. I do think we try to move Verdugo and Yoshida for pitching. Casas is not going anywhere. I really hate the idea of someone being JUST a DH. I was, as most of you, excited to see what Yoshida could do, and I believe he will be better next year after experiencing the number of games and all the flying, but I'd explore it. IMO we need a young star like Soto but only if we stay away from moving our top 2 prospects.

What does everyone think of Sawdaye? He intrigues me because of all of the hats he has worn. And it is a BIG plus on his being familiar with the system/organization.

It's a tough question because they're going to want a ton for him and he only has one year left untill hes an FA. If the sox knew an extension was coming along with the deal I'd trade one of Mayer or Anthony and probably more, maybe 2 guys from the top 5-20. Without an extension I don't risk giving up anyone as talented as Mayer/Anthony for just one year of Soto. If Soto is put on the block the sox need to be involved though that's for sure. I do agree about him extending as part of any trade. It is so difficult looking at our team without a Manny or an Ortiz. I love what Turner did this year, but that is never enough. I'm not interested in moving a Mayer at all. But some clubs are needing to move elit players for different reasons, and I think we need to be more pro-active than we've been.

The free agents for this off-season are not terribly exciting. I doubt they go all in for Otani. Without a doubt there are starters available and that is where we need to strike. In the Trade Proposal section, I mentioned going all out for Juan Soto. The Padres are in a chaotic state and their process hasn't, and won't, work.

I saw the Padres want to start bringing down the outrageous amount they are spending for being middle of the pack. Preiler is getting trashed and there is concern about what it will take to extend Soto.
We need a star to add to our line-up. We need a reason to get fans excited.
I really wish he was right-handed, but he is young and extremely talented.
He is a year from FA and will be very expensive. Your thoughts? What would it take?

At the least, re-sign Duvall and sign one of the top starters. Yamamoto or Nola would be nice.

It has been said but we need his right-handed bat and he is a decent outfielder. I'd love for Turner to come back for another year, but I'm pessimistic. He will also be 39. You have to wonder, if Duvall hadn't got hurt, what kind of numbers would he have put-up?
IMO, he is a perfect fit for us and if you haven't lately looked at the free agency list, WHO is better? We have toom many lefties and really need that righthand pop.
I'd love to see them give him a 2-year contract or a one with an option.
The power that has already been present over the last 25 games shows you how important that is for our continued success.

July/August of 2025 is my prediction for Teel’s arrival (provided everything goes smoothly) Wouldn't be surprised if this came true. If he develops defensively (he already is looking good), his bat will play for sure at this position. Exciting prospect to follow. He seems to have all of the atributes of an above average catcher. Love his arm, his "pop", his glove, and his temperment. I think we lucked out!

Hmm, it looks like they still want him to split time at catcher, at least, but they wanted him to fill an outfield hole for them. It also sounds like the odds of him sticking at catcher are not great. Interesting. I wondered if they were leaning away. I imagine if you want a guy to stick at catcher, the development time is longer even if you are ready as a hitter. Or you can promote the bat and lose the catching. With the Pirates Spring Training and developing folks in Bradenton, I thought how stupid it was they decided to rush Davis JUST for his bat. Henry is so much more valuable behind the plate. The Bucs have TWO excellent catching prospects that they should make a prioity. They finally got rid of Hedges and should have Davis CATCHING every other day.

Hat tip to gregblossersbelly for the thread title inspiration. Hoping Sale is strong for 3 innings plus. Any word on the amount of time Mayer will be out? Hope no more than 15

Love me some Teel! He will move as fast has his D. Fairly solid already! Really fortunate he was available when we picked. Really looking forward to watching his development

Ian Kinsler won 2x gold gloves. Doesn't seem like the right comp. Jeter won five. Doesn't mean as much sometimes

Mayer to the IL with left shoulder inflammation. Looks like he didn't just forget how to hit, apparently. Clearly this is my fault for living near Bowie. Sort of hate to say this, but that relieves my concerns some about his past 25 to 30 at bats.

I like the new rankings but I would like to see Gonzalez perform like this for another 6-weeks before I'm sold on him. Great stuff, but too inconsistent (until now?).

Honest question. Is this the best our farm has ever been? Not even close to the 2015 system. It was the best in baseball at that point. Agree. I immediately thought of Moncada, etc. We all though Moncada was destined for stardom.

Our rotation in Boston is unique, and that is saying it mildly.
Houck, Sale, Whitlock, and Pivetta could all be solid as "piggy-backers". Crawford, Bello, and Paxton hopefully give us 6 innings, but these previous guys, in their own way, could be a powerful boost giving us 3 innings for awhile.
Houck's outing is very important. I hope the (entire) cavalry shows up soon!

Steveofbradenton and I watched Rafaela in what was the GCL and he stood out all around. We mentioned that here. I saw him last season in Portland with the same impression. I was a bit surprised by some comments here that implied his offensive capabilities might lag. I think that he is going to be a stud all around. I don't know about him being 5'9" but 195? ...more like 175. Sarasoxer is totally right. He, in many ways, was impressive then...and now he has added some legit power. It blows me away how too much of the conversation on here has been on what he can't do. Maybe you remember a thread where it was asked who we thought would be our next centerfielder of the future. And to definitely boast, I said this kid! Not one of our prospects are perfect. Mayer is showing that right now. Most of our prospects wish they had Ceddanne's skills. I have NO doubt he will have a solid major league career. It just is "how high". I do believe he could come up right now and add as much as Adam Duval. And I like Duval. After this weak stretch of 10 games after the Jays, we should bring him up then if we haven't gotten hot and made up ground with this group. After those games it will be difficult and we might as well get Rafaela comfortable in Boston. He is part of our future. I believe in center...but right he fine...and he will excel.

Guys I'm anxious to get some reports on: 1) Yuten 2) Starlyn Nunez 3) Franklin Arias 4) Low bonus DSL catchers Andrew Musett and Gerardo Rodriguez who are having nice seasons Johanfran Garcia would have been #1 except the positive reports have done piled up at this point Agree on those above. Arias has slowed down some but his bat has been somewhat surprising. I may be missing someone but none of the pitchers have stood out.

Garcia leads the Red Sox minor league system in wRC+ among qualified hitters (153). For those curious here's the top 10: Garcia - FCL - 153 Anthony - A/A+ - 144 Starlyn Nunez - DSL - 140 Hickey - AA - 140 Dalbec - AAA - 139 Kelvin Diaz - FCL - 134 Cespedes - DSL - 134 Jordan - A+/AA - 133 Goodrum AAA - 133 Meidroth - AA - 129 I'd love to know more about the 2nd basemen, Startlyn Nunez. He has been very consistent all season. What a magnetic DP combination they seem to have on BLUE.

I see Yuten made it to FCL, so wonder if he will sneak in at the bubble or not. He seems like he could drift into top 30 this year as well. Not sure what you mean. Yuten has been in the FCL all year. And doing quite well!!

Hard for me to see Ceddanne ending up in right unless it is because of Durran's weak arm. Hope we give him as much time next year as we did with Casas this season. He seems to make adjustments quite well.
Really want our defense to be much improved, at least, by next year, and he will be one of the reasons.
