Looks like some of Brandon Workman's stats on the Home page are inaccurate.
IP, K, WHIP, ERA, BB all seem off.

Regardless, I don't think someone being a mental time bomb is a reason to not pitch him how you want. I don't buy the notion of " screwing a guy up" by moving his role. You are either a pro or you aren't. If you are, you can adapt and handle it; if you aren't then you're most likely going to unravel in any role. I like this a lot and think you're on to something. Either a player has it, or they don't. Every skill can be worked on and refined, to a certain extent, and I don't think placing RDLR in the bullpen for the last 2ish months will devastate his career arc.

A straight Nava/Gomes platoon should be the LF for the forseeable future. Do a semi-platoon with Napoli and Carp at 1st. Napoli needs to sit more than he is, he is proving why the Angels and the Rangers thought he was a 75% of games player instead of an everyday player. Considering he was a full-time catcher during his time with the Angels (except 70 games at 1b in 2010), I don't know why he would play more than 75% of the games with them. He also played more games at catcher then 1b with the Rangers in 2011 (when he was one of the best hitters in baseball), and 2012. I'm trying to see your point about the 75%, but I can't see it. Are starting catchers supposed to play 95% of the games?

Nava could really be a primary 1B option next year. I've been tossing this around in my mind as well. A lot depends on what happens with Ellsbury and Napoli. If neither accept the QO or resign, then I think it all depends on what FA we sign for LF/1B. I think if he's healthy, he will put up at least average 1b numbers. Good problem to have.

I'd like Yovani Gallardo if he's available for the right price. Any idea what kind of prospects he'd take? I'm not a Gallardo fan. K/9 and K% way down this year. Velocity also way down. Don't really have a good feel about what prospects it would take if the FO liked him.

I am not sure about that. There have been mentions on the broadcast about him not playing winterball this year and being more in shape this year especially in the upper body and core. Did he not play winterball last year? It is crazy that almost every player is in the best shape of their life every spring training. Good for them. EDIT: poor spelling

I think Crain is a great fit for us. I don't care what inning he is pitching. If we don't think Drew is worth a qualifying offer I think we swap Drew for a piece that would net us Crain. This. I think the potential QO is a main reason to hold onto Drew. I'm still in the camp that thinks he will be offered one and eventually decline.

You guys do realize that the Sox are in 1st place right? Why on earth would you trade your starting catcher who's having a great year and your starting CF who's your leadoff hitter for prospects? The Sox are BUYERS!!! Not to mention you'd have a clubhouse revolt on your handsBoston traded Nomar in 2004. No clubhouse revolt. He was much more beloved than Ellsbury. I think you might be overestimating the reaction just a bit.

I believe XB could be utility at least half a season to get some at bats. He is young. After ASB then everything would be clearer and any of the infield could be traded. And remember.. Knock knock... Cecchini may be here... We surely need that kind of depth since WMB has been oft injured I'm not sure Xander would be taking a utility role anywhere. If he's not starting everyday with the big club, he's going to stay down at AAA. Cecchini isn't close to being called up this year. (sorry if this sounded snarky, not my intention)

Everything is fluid here, but *if* Bogaerts shifts to 3b in another couple of years and the Sox find out that Iglesias can maintain a .350 OBP or so at SS. Cecchini could eventually be moved to 1b as a non conventional type at the position. That is, without the plus power, though with hopeful more XBH and OBP than most that play it. Nava could hold it down in the meantime, even Carp as long as he continues playing "above his head" so to say. So Carp is playing "above his head", but Iglesias maintaining a .350 OBP isn't? I'm all in with Nava at 1b if Napoli declines the QO.

I can't complain about Victorino's play at all so far, he's been better than I expected. Agreed. His defense has been awesome to watch too.

It's getting very ridiculous that Drew keeps starting and Iglesias sits on the bench. Even with his SSS, why not ride it as long as it lasts? I don't know how anyone can forecast what Iglesias will hit in the future. He has changed so much in the past couple of years, especially in the last year, that I think predictions are impossible to base on facts. The facts keep changing. He's certainly not going to hit anywhere close to where he is hitting now, but I don't think he is showing any reason to believe that he can't be a fairly decent hitter. That's why I would put him in the lineup now, and trade Drew to Denver. They just lost their shortstop for a while. Drew is the perfect mid-season trade for a team that needs a stopgap. With Bogaerts developing, the Sox need to know if Iglesias really can hit enough to be a regular. There's only one way to find out. I don't think they will trade Drew unless they get a really good prospect in return, which I think is doubtful. My guess: They'll keep him all year, offer him the QO, and collect the pick.

Last night: 7 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 13 Ks
104 pitches and 77 strikes.
Not bad, not bad at all.

Come on. Iggy was too rushed. He increased his power and speed last off season. Don't judge him by his minor stat. Yeah guys, judge him off his 84 PA's and killer .523 BABIP!Iglesias is the perfect trade candidate to me. No reason not to form the infield around Xander for the short and long term (starting whenever he's ready), as a SS.

Middlebrooks is clearly struggling, although is appears to be all mental. I'm not sure it is all mental. Someone with better baseball smarts than me would have to comment, but I don't think it is mental as much as a minor lack of skill. Ray brought up a good point, it's a fantastic position to be in. I think Drew is still the best SS option this year. Will be interesting to see the ST battle with Xander and Iglesias next year though for the starting job at short.

The X-man could be next year's JBJ. It's going to be very interesting to see how 3B and SS get divided among the contenders. And then there's this guy at Salem who seems to know how to hit. One of them needs to be converted to 1B. I would like to hear your reasoning on why one of them needs to be converted to first.

I've gone back and forth with these two guys, but I'll stick with Meadows... until we take Frazier and then I'll say we picked correctly.

Drew is gonna earn a qualifying offer this summer. I can see it. Slow start coming back from the injury, but he is a good hitter along with an extremely solid fielder. I agree on the QO. Will be really interesting if he accepts it.

Yeah I think everyone would prefer McCann at that money. . . which is why he'll get a lot more. Salty seems to be the next best option for a team looking for a catcher for the next few years. All the other free agent catchers are either older, bad, or both. the question is whether or not you think a team will be willing to give up a first for Saltalamacchia. Judging by what happened to Bourne I'd say no, but last years free agent market was flush with center fielders, a situation Jarrod is not getting in to. But a team did sign Borne to a pretty good chunk of money. What am I missing?
