theathletic.com/4503697/2023/05/10/mlb-red-sox-jarren-duran-yankees-rangers/?source=mlbtwBy Ken Rosenthal May 10, 2023 "The way I first heard it, Dustin Pedroia was in the batting cage with Jarren Duran during spring training, advising him to make a mechanical adjustment in a most unusual way. “Put your hands up like you’re ready to f—— hit me,” Pedroia supposedly said. Pedroia, the retired Red Sox star, did not deny saying those words, responding in a text, “Yeah, basically, hahaha, you know me.” But Duran remembers Pedroia delivering the message differently, albeit in equally off-color fashion. “He basically just told me, get your hands up, be athletic, act like you’re going to hit the f—— s— out of the ball,” Duran said. “For him to say that to me, I was like, ‘Hell, yeah. I’m going to buy in.’”"

this cracked me up when it went down. Papelbon. LOL Papelbon is still one of my favorites of all time. I was there when they clinched the division in 2007 and seeing him dance Shipping up to Boston was totally awesome me, too, Taiwansox!, along with one of my sibs...Yes, glad we hung around, post game, for the on field entertainment! That game was furthest along in a Red Sox playoff run, I've been to, live, and great memories.
(had a ticket, for a WS Game 7, Halloween 2013, mostly glad, didn't get to use, especially where they finally got by the Cardinals, for a ring!)

I'll hold off on judgment because I'm in no position to trust one set of scouts over another, although it feels like the Sox are higher on him than everyone else. But we got a left fielder, which was nice when we really needed a right fielder. That's fine, but for the same money we could have had Contreras, who seems like a better deal. I was personally ok with the Wong/McGuire battery but given all the reports of the Sox being interested in Contreras I started to think they were not. Regardless, I'm excited and going to hope this guy is an on-base machine in the MLB. If he is, that's very nice. very very nice. I hope Verdugo isn't bulking up right now. recalled this thread, reading this article of understanding still just a month of so in, on two 5 year deals
(MY looking okay; Verdugo not too bulked up; sons of Yadier are a bit of a mess behind the plate)

14. Red Sox: Hurston Waldrep, RHP, Florida (No. 11) Waldrep's upper-90s fastball and mid-80s slider and splitter/changeup all can earn plus or better grades at their best, though he's still working to harness them.

So annoying, especially in light of Kremer splits w & w/o runners on. Could've at least driven up pitch count, instead of providing Os a bit of unanticipated relief, that hopefully doesn't turn into a pivot point, here now at bottom of inning. Be nice to see em shutdown, here, by Sale, and steal some momentum back. nevermind

I've always been amazed at how names can be so coincidentally appropriate. The MFYs once had a SS prospect named Mickey Klutz and, yes, he was awful. The Eagles had a WR with a perfect WR name: Mike Quick. In the political world, one of the NJ staffers who got caught up in the GW Bridge closing scandal was named Bridgette. The Secret Service agent who protected President Clinton and was asked to testify in the sex scandal was named Larry Cockell. The National Enquirer publisher who testified in the Trump-Storm Daniels scandal is named Jeff Pecker. You can't make this stuff up and it keeps a juvenile mind like mine amused. Now, let's get Yu Chang another AB and win this game! Can't believe nobody brought up 2008 when Bartolo Colon of the Boston Red Sox faced Chien-Ming Wang of the New York Yankees. Everyone in the Northeast was 12-years old that summer. This line got me laughing, as I recently had to undergo 3(!) foley catheter insertions & removals inside of a 3 week period, and, end of that last removal, upon returning home, flipped on TV, and, old show "NewsRadio" was just rolling through intro cast credits, and, 1st three I see were for Dave Foley, Steven Root, and, Andy Dick
...on another sophomoric "name" note...is Randy Johnson the only athlete w/ both given name and nickname (Big Unit) that could bth be mistaken for porn star names?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distal_radius_fractureA distal radius fracture, also known as wrist fracture, is a break of the part of the radius bone which is close to the wrist.[1] Symptoms include pain, bruising, and rapid-onset swelling.[1] The ulna bone may also be broken.[1] In younger people, these fractures typically occur during sports or a motor vehicle collision.[2] In older people, the most common cause is falling on an outstretched hand.[2] Specific types include Colles, Smith, Barton, and Chauffeur's fractures.[2] The diagnosis is generally suspected based on symptoms and confirmed with X-rays.[1] Treatment is with casting for six weeks or surgery.[1] Surgery is generally indicated if the joint surface is broken and does not line up, the radius is overly short, or the joint surface of the radius is tilted more than 10% backwards.[3] Among those who are cast, repeated X-rays are recommended within three weeks to verify that a good position is maintained.[3]
