What is odd is that he wasn't terrible yesterday. Yes, he allowed four bombs, but it seemed to me that he was in control for most of it.

I saw the Indians DFA'd Michael Martinez. As Marrero is just terrible to watch at bat, was Martinez ANY good last year? I can't recall. I'm at a loss with D'Arnaud on the 25 - flip in Martinez instead? He was awful.

Should have put Young to hit for Marrero there.

I'd rather see Witte at 3B than Marrero or Rutledge.

Welcome new posters!
My name is Rafael and like Don, I'm Brazilian. I study Chemical Engineering and I'm an intern in a pharmaceutical company.
In Brazil, baseball is not a popular sport so it was very rarely shown on TV when I was growing up. Because of that, the first baseball game I ever watched on TV was game 6 of the 2006 ALDS with the Tigers eliminating the Yankees. At the time, I was 12 years old. At first I was a Mets fan (disgusting, I know), because a friend of my father who was a Mets fan gave me a Carlos Beltran bobblehead. During the 2008 ALCS, I caught myself rooting badly for the Sox, as they were the team that never quit, having completed great comebacks in 2004 and 2007 and were trying to complete another one. It broke my heart when they lost in game 7 of that series and I've been a big fan ever since.
Last year, I made the trip to Boston for the first time to watch the Sox and it was a blast. I used to watch games on TV and dream about going to Fenway, but when I got there it was better than I could ever have imagined. I plan to comeback many times in the future, if I have enough money for that.
This is the second website I visit every morning, just after I check my soccer team news and it's the only website I go to read Red Sox news and discussion. The quantity and the quality of the work done by the SoxProspects' staff is amazing, in my opinion better than anything else in the internet regarding the Sox farm system. Since I found out about SoxProspects.com, my knowledge about Red Sox history, farm system and baseball in general has grown exponentially and I'd like to thank all of you, fellow forum members and staff for that.
I have posted a lot less this season than I did previously, mostly because I have not had the time since my internship started. I'll try to post more than I have so far, but even if I don't, I'm still going to be lurking here daily.

Terrible managing by Showalter. Should have taken out Bundy before the start of the inning. Leaving him in the game with 109 pitches and 2 men on base with no outs to face a tough LHH was mind-blowingly stupid.

That HBP was intentional, no doubt about it.

Betances is likely unavailable tomorrow and that's a big plus.

The Olympics' opening ceremony starts in 30 minutes, about 20 miles from where I live and I'm much more interested in the counter move to this waiver claim. Maybe I should get my priorities straight. Where do you live? I lived in Barra da Tijuca until I was 13. I live in Niterói. Was born and raised here.

If Margot was still in the system, he would be our starting LF right now.

I just realized that the Orioles acquired Wade Miley for their version of Aaron Wilkerson. A baffling trade from the Mariners' point of view.

Does he? When Owens was at Salem he allowed a .248 BABIP with a 2.32 K/BB in 104.2 innings. Kopech in 22.1 innings has a .326 BABIP against with a 2.14 K/BB. Get your facts straight. While his BABIP over 22 innings may be a fact, it certainly isn't a meaningful one. I for one appreciate contrarian points of view. Yeah, I agree that it wasn't a good argument, because of the small sample of BABIP. However, Owens was the poster boy, at least in this forum, for a pitcher who mostly allowed weak contact throughout the minors, due to his low H/9. On the other hand, he could never solve his command and control issues, leading him to be shelled in the majors. They couldn't be more different pitchers, but Kopech is going through problems that are similar to the ones that Owens has faced so far in his career. If he doesn't make a big leap forward both in his control and command, no matter how hard he throws (Hello, Joe Kelly), he won't cut it as a starter in the big leagues.

This is the Kopech thread, not the Owens thread. The difference with Owens was (and is) that he gives up a lot of hard contact. You can't walk batters and then give up homers. It doesn't work that way. Does he? When Owens was at Salem he allowed a .248 BABIP with a 2.32 K/BB in 104.2 innings. Kopech in 22.1 innings has a .326 BABIP against with a 2.14 K/BB. Get your facts straight.

Benintendi should be unavailable tonight if the reason for him to be platooning is to ease him in (if it's not a blowout, obviously). It would be contradictory to bring him in for an important at-bat against a RHP in late innings or as a defensive replacement in left.

That means no more Brentz?? I would be a happy man if that's the case.

Paxton is filthy when he's on: 96-98 with the fastball and good offspeed pitches. Hopefully we'll get him next inning.

#MNTwins have agreed to trade LHP Fernando Abad to Boston for RHP Pat Light, per source.

4-way trade: Sale and Robertson to the Red Sox, Pomeranz to the Dodgers, Kimbrel to a taker and prospects to the White Sox. Best-case scenario for us. Major longshot though.

I actually liked the pick at the time, as I'm all in for college performers. I'm lower on him right now, because of the aforementioned K% and BB%.

I'm pretty sure there is some kind of scouting blended into ZiPS.

Would it make sense for a team like the Phillies to take Buchholz in a trade? That way they could see if he pitches better in the second half and then trade him in the offseason.

Baffling bullpen management. Barnes pitching the 8th in a one-run game and then Uehara?

How about Robbie Ray as a trade target? The D-Backs are out of it and he has good peripherals. I wouldn't trade him if I was their GM, but their FO is not really smart, so he might be available.
