Probably the right call. Now it can be argued that Craig wasn't in the base path (which I believe makes the rule null, but correct me if I'm wrong), but there's 0 reason to throw that ball to 3rd, especially considering the ending to the previous game with Breslow doing the exact same thing. WMB also has to knock that down even if he gives up the chance to make a tag. Salty has to eat that with Kozma on deck, plain and simple.
But even if the above happens and it's 1st/3rd with 1 out, it's not like the Sox had the game won. They were probably in a better position given the bullpen availability and lineup due in the 10th, but I can't see it being much better than 50/50 in STL. I wonder if Fangraphs or any of the other win probability sites will show what we would have looked at with 1st/3rd and 2 outs for Kozma.
Best thing is that they can come back tomorrow and try to wash this out of the system. My guess is that Ross is your starting catcher tomorrow

Just got back from the game. Stayed for about half an hour until everyone went back to the clubhouse. Just an amazing night capping off arguably the greatest/most shocking week in recent sports memory with the two Sox grand slams and the Pats win
Since I'm sure it was beaten to death, no one around me or seemingly anywhere in the park were even "meh" when Morales came in. Everyone knew it could go horribly wrong, and then he pretty much proved everyone correct.
But I did like Farrell's quicker hook on Buch, he clearly didn't have it after the 5th.
Workman was fantastic, and worst case he's in the pen in Boston next year. Sure, some miserably base running helped, but he made a few great pitches and got the ground ball when needed.
The fact that Pedey came 3 inches from a HR, Bogey launched one that is gone if it's two feet right, and Gomes missed a HR by 4 inches was all washed away by Victorino who left everyone in the park speechless. Out of everything that could have come from that at bat, a slam was probably last on things anyone expected. Just unreal

Find it hard to imagine we don't see Xander in the lineup for game 6. Question is really is he with WMB or Drew on the left side

Buster Olney ?@buster_ESPN 35s Red Sox don't expect to sign Jose Abreu; they figure he'll be signing with another team. White Sox, Astros now seen as frontrunners
Interesting

If they had a 3b capable of moving more than 1 step in either direction, even when healthy? Iglesias may not have been playing as far over towards 3b as he was and the ball would have been a clean single, or the 3b would have had a chance at it. look again if you can at where the ball was hit. That (to me) wasn't anything any kind of normal, even terrific SS had any business touching. It's got to be an absolute nightmare for leyland having to manage a team with liabilities on the defense, such as Cabby, Fielder and Peralta butchering plays and having others attempt to cover them up with them moving out of position some in the attempt. He shouldn't have made the throw with an immovable object at 1B for them. The major faults defensively in the inning are Fielders, no question.

Before the series the biggest downfall of the Tigers was their defense. They managed to go 17 innings before it hurt them, and it started with Iggy, though Fielder did absolutely nothing to help him in the Gomes single and on the Salty foul out. Just a complete meltdown in every facet for the Tigers

This day didn't actually happen, right? Like I'm going to wake up tomorrow and it's going to be Sunday morning before any of this happened?

Just remarkable. Was at the Pats game for Brady today. Got home around the 5th and witnessed one of the greatest single game comebacks of all time.
This entire day is just so surreal right now

Price should be annoyed with his performance and the idiots on Twitter. That's exactly the reason to not be on Twitter
Also, very few things annoy me more than athletes pulling the "well he didn't play past HS or in the majors card" when established writers and analysts make comments just because they don't agree with the players opinion
Edit: I was sitting just to the fair side of Pesky's pole tonight and I had no clue if it was fair until it just about reached the stand

Why athletes and media people continue to respond to moronic trolls on twitter baffles me read his timeline... No trolls... "you're going to see Papi in your sleep tonight" "why do you cry and complain about Papi when he took you yard" There's no reason for fans to send that stuff to athletes. But if they do, there is 0 reason to respond. That's obnoxious fan and trolling and usually makes the athlete look petty

Nice win for the A's. Gray was sensational and went toe to toe with Verlander.
Sox end up the only team to win the first two. Sweep with Clay on the mound would be fantastic and give them an extra 2+ days to continue to mend

For anyone back there still awake, the home plate umpire in the Oakland,-Detroit game is just terrible. He has set up at least a half dozen hitters, calling strikes early in the count that were not. That has them reacting later in the count to pitches off the plate, naturally. Terrible way to do his business. It's such a great thing that we don't have the technology or anything to avoid this. Or at the very least the technology that should either force HP umpires to adjust keep them from getting playoff games

Have tickets to games 1/2. Really hoping the crowd actually shows up for tomorrow. It's been impossible to give tickets away to most of the "business world" with the 3PM start
Hoping that Xander gets a start vs a lefty in the first two games, but I'm fairly sure that Farrell will stick with Drew and his sub 200 average vs. lefties. He's 0-10 vs. Price with 5 K's and 2-5 vs. Moore. But I just don't know if they trust Xander to get a start vs. Price. He probably should given how terrible Drew is vs. LHP and Price in particular, but Farrell didn't show much to give the thought that he'd actually start X over Drew when it counts

I just can't see them paying a massive contract to Choo when he can only hit against righties. He's horrendous against LHP, and that's already one of the weaknesses with the current roster. The platoon options aren't very favorable if he's your RF and you already need to platoon guys in left

Doubront got work in the scrimmage while Thornton doesn't appear to be coming in. Maybe Felix somehow gets the call for the ALDS?

Tampa just got robbed. Yay 6 man umpire crews who still can't get a trap call correct in CF. Good thing we have technology within 10 seconds to see a replay but we can't actually use it

Bleh. Not a fan of either start times but I'm sure Fenway will still be solid regardless. My guess is that there could be a late arriving crowd to game 1, though hopefully most people will get there on time

I'm annoyed that Buchholz isn't going in the first two games. He's the best pitcher on the Red Sox by a significant margin, and I don't care that he's coming back from an injury. He's still better than Lester and definitely better than Lackey. This isn't a negative statement about Lester and Lackey; Buchholz is just that good. I don't really think it's that he's coming back from an injury. It's home/road splits of him and Lackey Clay has very similar lines at Fenway and on the road, 1.99/1.40 ERA, with expanded stats shading him a little better at home On the other hand, Lackey has extreme H/R splits in almost every category. An ERA almost 2.5 runs better at Fenway, HR/9 almost a full HR better at Fenway Buchholz is better than Lackey IMO, and if both games were in the same ballpark Clay would likely be in front of him in the rotation, but with the games split But when you get a guy that has pitched like a superstar at Fenway, you have him pitch there. He also had two of his worst statistical starts of the season in Tampa if the Sox end up playing the Rays, so you really don't want him lined up to pitch in Tampa

Doubront has been out of the rotation for under a week and had never pitched in relief until today. There is very little you can take from this game that means anything. The only way he was going to make the playoff roster based on this game was if he was lights out, and even then, the chances of him making the ALDS roster were still slim to none Please use the Internet to check out statements before you make them. We have more information resources than we ever dreamed of. Let's put then into play. Doubront started his career with the Sox coming out of the pen. that's my bad. That's what I get for going on the site from my phone. Saw his quotes about not relieving and didn't think twice about it. That's what I thought initially when I read his comments, but when I saw what he said I figured I was losing my mind. Well at least I'm not going crazy The occasional time I don't actually look up something. Usually I start a post, double check, and end up deleting my post. Awesome

Darvish pulled in a 2-2 game in the 6th after 84 pitches. Texas needs a win to tie for the 2nd WC and now their best player is out. Wouldn't mind seeing TB and TEX being forced to play a game just to get into the play in game vs. Cleveland

Cleveland: 17-2 vs. CWS, 74-68 vs. the rest of the league
The hope from a Sox perspective is make sure Price/Moore have to pitch before the ALDS if Tampa makes it and therefore can go only once and not until game 3-5
