Bottom line, Bogaer's agent is Scott Bor***hole and if he has his way, Bogaerts will sign a series of one year deals until he is a free agent and then go to the highest bidder. As long as there is a team out there willing to over pay like the Dodgers and Yankees that is how it will be. He as even been known to come up with "Phatom teams" to get this done. So unless he changes agents, don't hold your breath on anything getting done before he hits free agency. As much as I would love to see him stay, that is the reality of the situation. Bottom line, Boras works for Bogaerts, not the other way around. If he doesn't want to sign an extension to begin with then changing agents is not going to change anything.

It's the all-STAR, not the all-WAR ballot. And it happens once per calendar year, with voting starting in April, which could certainly be read as including last year's second half. I just don't think it's so cut and dried that a good player the last couple months should be an automatic selection. Kluber was a bigger snub than Mookie. Except Escobar wasn't chosen because of his star power, he was chosen because he played for a team whose fans stuffed the ballot box. They weren't taking into account his merits. They voted strictly for their own players regardless of merit. Exactly. This is especially true when you realize that Omar Infante...Yes, Omar Infante....was the leading vote getter at 2B up until a few days before the official announcements. Part of me wanted him to win just to emphasize some of the things that are really wrong with the voting system, but in the end I'm glad it did fix itself.

I'm skeptical. He does throw his fastball a lot, but so does Shelby Miller, so does Gerrit Cole, Taijuan Walker, Danny Salazar. Some of the best young pitchers in the game. He got babip'd to death a bit today and Astros did a good job of being patient and fouling off some good pitches. They're able to foul off good pitches because they aren't fooled. This is becoming a trend. Unhittable first time through, then cross your fingers. 1st time through- Fouls on fastball- 3 2nd time through- Fouls on fastball- 6 (28 fastballs thrown total 2nd time through) 3rd time through (5 batters in)- Fouls on fastball- 3 On the other hand 1st time through- Fouls on changeup- 2 2nd time through- Fouls on changeup- 6 Not sure if his fastball is a problem. Obviously would love to see more changeups and sliders, but wasn't it said before he made his debut that is slider isn't exactly good enough at the moment to be a pitch he goes to a lot? I also know nothing about the average percentage of fastballs that are fouled off in a game, but only 6 out of 28 does not sound that high to me.

While that certainly does hurt the team, that isn't all on him. This team came into the season supposedly with depth in the OF. So much so that many people on this board wanted to see Victorino traded during Spring Training. This was mainly because we had Castillo who also kept getting hurt while in the minors and then never really found any consistency in the majors (a large part of that probably being not playing much while in the majors for whatever reason). If I remember correctly, many people were not even counting on Victorino to contribute to the team at all coming into the season and believed the best team had an OF of Ramirez, Betts, and Castillo. The team obviously did not go that way, but the fact that Castillo has not been able to play up to an acceptable level this season hurts the team as much as Victorino being hurt, possibly even more in my opinion. I never said that it was Victorino's fault that he's body is breaking down and can't stay healthy and that we can't rely on him. It is the front office's fault that they thought it was a good idea to rely on him this year and that has hurt the team. The time to move on from Victorino was in this past offseason. For some stupid reason we kept him and it hurt the team. Neither did I. Or maybe I'm not getting what I am trying to say on that across well. I'm not talking about it was his fault that his body is breaking down, I'm saying that I don't believe the fact that his body is breaking down hurt the team as much as you believe it did. I'm also not entirely sure that the front office was relying on him either. If I remember correctly I believe there was a report in Spring Training saying that the team was talking to Victorino about having a lesser role on the team this season; more of a bench role. It's entirely possible that they sent Castillo down to AAA with the intent of bringing him up in a month or so, but he got hurt once or twice and they were not able to do so. Honestly, after seeing some of Castillo's mistakes so far while in the majors, I think it was a mistake to rely on him, if that was indeed what they were doing. I think trading Victorino probably would have been best as well. But as we know, this team doesn't like trade players when their value is low/at it's lowest unless they don't think there is much of a chance of it rising (i.e- Middlebrooks), and that was the case with Victorino. If he had any trade value at all I think they may have done it, but they were probably going to have to basically just give him away if they wanted to trade him (which who knows, that could have been for the best anyway).

While I agree with mostly everything you said, how is Victorino a reason we are a last place team? Hes barely even been on the roster so far this season, and when he has been he has contributed pretty nicely. Because we have to play musical chairs in RF because he can't stay healthy. Having to play 5 different RFs is absolutely a detriment and has certainly hurt the team. Boy there is so much garbage on this 25 man roster...it's not wonder why the team isn't very good. Napoli, Breslow, Masterson, Leon, Ross Jr. Also the refusal to replace Victorino and Nava are a couple of the reasons why we are a last place team again. While I agree with mostly everything you said, how is Victorino a reason we are a last place team? Hes barely even been on the roster so far this season, and when he has been he has contributed pretty nicely.

Guccione is a jerk. How does the league not speak to these umpires ,they are not suppose to be the center of attention. He can't ask for help? I don't think I have ever seen an umpire allow that after they have already made the call. People have been saying this for years, but they really need to make it so the HP umpire cant make those calls.

Napoli, Barnes, Bradley Jr., Marrero & Owens for Hamels & Papelbon What would the Phillies want with Napoli? Because "we" want Hamels. Didn't you know thats how it works?

It's only flawed if Ben predicted those career years instead of Farrell driving them. Personally, I have chosen the latter so I don't want Farrell gone until he's proven incompetence with a roster not at the butt end of baseball jokes. It's the GMs job to identify players that add value to the roster and the coaches' jobs to extract that value whether it's Farrell's clubhouse management or Butterfield improving Napoli's 1b defense. So in theory the credit should go to both the front office and coaching staff if they are doing there jobs which I believe is what we saw in 2013 spurred on by a significant external motivator. How can you say this is on Ben when both Sandoval and Ramirez have extensive track records of relative success but are struggling early? You won't give Ben credit for predicting career years in 13 but hold him accountable for not predicting a drop in production by any players in 15 through less than half a season. Can't this finger be pointed just as easily on the coaches. Or more realistically the finger should always point back to the player in the end to produce. There are too many variables in play right now including the pitching staff to make knee jerk reactions as to what a player is or will be over the next few seasons. Losing sucks. It's not fun and less so when expectations are set to have the best record in the AL by prediction systems only to fail to achieve anything close record wise. I believe there is a very serious evaluation going on at all levels of the franchise from the front office, to the coaching, to the players on the field to determine how to correct this. I don't expect those determinations to be completed until the season end with a few exceptions to extract value at the trade deadline. And in the same way, give credit for Farrell bringing out the talent of the players in 2013, yet not hold him accountable for doing the same in 2014 and 2015.

Pedroia back in lineup. 0 for 5, left 3 on base and we lost. Maybe it is coincidence but everybody seems to play better when he is on the bench. Or you are just seeing something that isn't there. I'm not sure how everyone plays better when he is on the bench when (admittedly without looking up) we probably had more hits and more runs this game than most of the games in the past month of two. We lost because of Porcello's pitching (which the results have been great for him pretty much all season, with or without Pedroia playing) and Sandoval's bad throw that lead to the tying run. Mookie, Holt, Hanley, Swihart, and De Aza all had pretty nice games. Im not sure how a player OPSing over .925 in the month of June sitting on the bench makes players play better, let alone makes the team overall better.

Question for all of those far more knowledgeable in the way that this all works than myself. The Sox seemed to do an excellent job of throwing their big market "spending weight" around before the new rules on the Draft and International signing pools were put into place. As we all know, the Sox blew past their limit in the International market this year, resulting in sanctions for next season. Any chance the Sox take the same approach to the 2016 Draft (when they can't hand out the big bonuses Internationally), and then again in the 2017 International signing period, 2018 Draft, and so on? Would this make any sense, or am I way off-base here? If by blow past their limit you mean enough so that they start losing first round picks, then I doubt it. It would really make no sense in my opinion. I don't really think going past the International limit has any bearing at all of how much they would spend in the draft. If you go too far past the limit in the draft I believe the team can even lose their first round picks for the following two years as the worst punishment. And you have to remember that it's not just a potential player chosen in the first round that you would be losing, but also the bonus money that is tied to that pick. That can greatly change what a team is able to do with their other picks. I could easily see them blowing past the International limit again when they next can (that is if there isn't an International draft by that point), but I don't really see any team doing the same in the draft.

Announcers never have friends or sources with other teams. Carry on. Just made it up. Cause I'm sure every team except the Red Sox make sure to regularly weigh Sandoval. That must be where they got the information.

Wow. Fenway Park used to be the place where the Red Sox offense got healthy. Teams didn't just go into Fenway and beat the Sox up. The Francona era seems miles away at this point unfortunately. Makes it hard to want to spend all that money for a ticket when you don't think the home team has a good shot to win the game you're going to. It does help that he had Ortiz and Manny hitting 3-4 for basically all but on of those year and Pedro pitching every 5th day for half of them. But that is an amazing stat. Wasn't Pedro only here for his first year? Or am I remembering wrong?
