See you next year. Fire Dombrowski. Fire Farrell. Seriously? I understand the hate that Farrell gets at times but come on. Please tell me why at this time Dombrowski should be included in this? The players he went after had huge seasons and are the main reason they were even in the playoffs on the first place.

Sad thing is is that I felt like this would happen the entire game. Don't know if that just the do or die situation of this game, but never felt that once yesterday. Hopefully they can pull it out in the bottom of the inning!

Just a get some baserunners here. Kimbrel will lock down the 9th when he enters with a clean slate. You were saying?

Go look at ball 1 in that at bat. Someone please post the pitch zone in that at bat. I'm at the game. Somehow it looked like worse of a call in person then even that picture shows.

The top two are Sale and Pom followed by Porcello, and I don't think it's even that close...even if Fister pitches well for the rest of the season. Fister has been not merely good, but dominant in his last two starts. I agree that Pomeranz should start game two "even if Fister pitches well for the rest of the season ". But if Fister remains this dominant (which I know is unlikely) then I think it is close and would be a decision with two great choices. It's a fun hypothetical to ponder. Fister has had three very good starts in a row. Let's hold our horses on him remaining this dominant for the rest of the year. Even if he is good/decent the rest of the year I am taking the person (Pom) with something like a 2.75-3 ERA in his last 15+ starts and who was dominant most of last year over Fister who hasn't been all that good since 2014. Even if he is dominant the rest of the year I'm not even sure I would place him above Porcello. At this point he's definitely in the conversation for #4 starter in the postseason. Would much rather see him than Erod at this point. Anyway, great win and great pitching all around!

If the playoffs started next week who are you starting in game two? Doug Fister is making it an interesting conversation. The top two are Sale and Pom followed by Porcello, and I don't think it's even that close...even if Fister pitches well for the rest of the season.

So the Tigers either got not nearly enough or Mike Trout. EDIT: Joking aside, that's a great get for LAAOA. Upton's having an under-the-radar fantastic season, and 4/$90 for the next four years of him doesn't seem unreasonable whatsoever. He also has an opt out at the end of this year apparently, so no guarantee that he is still an Angel in a couple months.

The Yankees are blocking Frazier from the Sox. All they can do is put Frazier at first base. I have no idea what they are doing. I don't think they know either. Why wouldn't they do that? Bird just had surgery and they have Cooper playing first for them right now I believe.

I thought Porcello's runs last start were unearned. Was there a scoring change? Still showing as unearned everywhere I see. His ERA dropped from 7.56 to 5.32 in that game. It'll take a few weeks for his ERA to really recover from that Tampa start. That Tampa start which was also my first ever time in Boston/Fenway to see a game....ughhh that was horrible to watch.

I fail to see the reasoning for sending Kimbrel out for the 10th. He already vultured a win. Let someone else get the all important save stat. So in the beginning of April, it's not okay for a 4 out save against Detroit but in the middle of April it's okay for a 6 out appearance against the Jays? I mean if John wants to be fair about things and only limit him to one inning stints in season early on, then at least be consistent about it. So dumb, honestly. I think you are looking at it the wrong way. It's not that Farrell changed his views on Kimbrel pitching more than 3 innings at a time over the course of a week or two. That would be absurd. From what I have read on this site as well as other sites, Farrell is concerned with Kimbrel coming in during an inning and appears to want him to pitch clean innings only. Not sure what that says about Farell's belief/confidence in Kimbrel (and other's have commented on it already in this thread I believe), but there is most likely going to come a time where Kimbrel is going to be needed badly to come in with runners on. You have to assume that Farrell doesn't feel that time should happen early in the season, so we will see if that changes in the future.

What does that matter? He can't acknowledge how good Sale was? Not when they are not even winning the game. Maybe after, and they can it doesnt even matter because they cant get him a few runs for once! So does that mean if they don't win no one should be able to comment on how good the starting pitcher for the losing team was? Sorry, but as others have stated that is faulty logic. Sale being good and the score of the game are two separate things entirely. Guess it I Kimbrel coming in. Hoping for the best. He has been good recently...hopefully that continues. Well.....................

New Yankee Stadium is a soulless mausoleum. The garlic fries are good though. Enjoy. Second the garlic fries. With the wet and rainy weather, a lot of the primo seats are going to be empty, and by the fifth or sixth inning the ushers start to get lax. Great to hear! The seats aren't front row or anything, but they aren't nosebleed either. Probably half way back or a little closer. Would definitely love to be able to move up a little if that opportunity arises though!

I am wondering what the people here think of E. Rodriguez. He just had a pretty good year for a 22 year old, IMO. It seems to me he doesn't garner much attention here, nor does there seem to be much enthusiasm about his future. As I'm sure you all know if you back out a few very bad outings he was dominant. How often does a 22 yr old rookie pitch much better than he did? I am pretty excited about his future, am I alone. Not sure where you are getting that. There has been a ton of enthusiasm for his future pretty much since he made his debut (and a little even before then as well).

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how that is a legal catch? He is standing on the wall while making the catch. Does that mean an outfield can climb the outfield fence and stand on top of the wall to rob a home run? How is that allowed? When was he standing on the wall? The video I'm seeing shows him drive over the tarp to catch the ball. Doesn't seem any different from a fielder diving into the stands to catch a ball.

I think Owens is the better pitcher next year. edit - and Wright. This year owens started out struggling with command. Will sox fans be patient if Owens starts out next year struggling with command? Will they have a choice? Owens also started out not throwing his changeup at all apparently. For some reason though I don't think we would have to worry about that if he is in the ML starting rotation...

I also see little or no markers of the sort of mechanics that indicate elbow stress, and the velo seems easy and relatively low-effort. I will defer to any expert who says he has a little bit of elbow stress in his delivery, however. Double however, the cause of the recent epidemic of TJ surgery is very well understood -- so well understood that Smoltz made it the topic of the end of his induction speech. And it has nothing to do with mechanics. Young HS pitchers pitch year-round now, going to multiple showcases in order to enhance their draft ranking and college offers. It's patently insane, but I imagine the showcases are profitable to those who run them, and until very recently, despite warnings by doctors, kids felt they were unable to risk not participating. Now that the causal link was been established (which is to say, now that the medical warnings have proven to be accurate), MLB teams (and perhaps colleges) are starting to put a value on kids who have avoided pitching year-round. Obviously, none of this applies to Latino pitchers. I don't have the time, but maybe someone else can hunt down the online database of TJ surgery, and if it's up-to-date, can verify that the recent upsurge in young pitchers needing TJ has only happened to U.S. kids. Going back to Espinoza, if he does have a delivery with a little stress, he may be looking at possible TJ surgery in his 30's, like most of the pitchers in MLB. It would only be a warning sign for imminent surgery if he had been abused like the stateside kids. Kids throw less now than they did in the 60's or 70's. Yes the show cases and organized ball are more intense. I think from past posts you are my age or older. We played catch, grounders, BP, most days. No pitch counts in the organized play. I played center for a kid that pitched 14 innings and had to be over 160 pitches one game. Can't happen today. We also did winter indoor clinics every sat. Kids absolutely throw a lot more now than you seem to be giving them credit for. While I cant personally comment on the 60's and 70's, I can comment on the current young players and it is pretty much a year long sport for them. My brother pitched at a D-1 school about two years ago (ended up partially tearing his labrum, but that's a different story) and its a year long thing. These kids start practicing end of summer/beginning of fall semester for games that don't begin for months. This doesn't even account for all the training these kids are supposed to go through during the 1-2 months they actually do have free from mid-late summer. It wasn't as intense during highschool as college, it was still a ton of work for a kid that age. While the actually pitch counts are monitored in the game today for younger players, I feel that they are still putting a ton of stress on their arms the rest of the year as well. In my opinion, that's the real problem and cause of all these TJ surgeries. Edit- Forgot to mention that while he was at a D-1 school, it was still near the mid to back end of D-1. I can only imagine what the top schools young players are expected to go through knowing what I know about the experience of my brother.

It doesn't matter what the Sox do. they will get fleeced in every move they make as long as they still have Farrell and Cherington in charge. While completely ignoring the fact that you seem to think Cherington can never make a deal without getting the short end of it- What does Farrell have to do with the moves that they make?
