Who are the 4s and 5s?

Love it. Hope Bogaerts can handle all the ground balls he's gonna get with this pitching staff. He should lead the league in chances.
One-year make good deals have almost no downside assuming management is capable of cutting bait if it's clearly not working. To not love this deal is absurd.
Sox could have 4 of top 30 GB% starts in baseball potentially. Kelly, Porcello, Masterson, Miley. Hope the IF defense is ready.

Castillo has 1.1 more fWAR than Jeter the last two seasons.

Mookie Raines with HR #5. Could finish fourth on the team with a strong last couple games.

Why is Bradley getting any at bats ? So he can improve. EDIT: Oops, forgot he was already 24. Nevermind then, I got nothing.

Steven Wright, mostly. Barring that, maybe Jon Lester.
But really I'd prefer a boom or bust pitcher if management and the coaching staff are well-equipped to determine when he has reached bust status.

Do we get to see Rusney in game 1?

The next Yankee SS will likely be the best they've had since 2009.

Allen Craig is just unbelievable.
This team doesn't deserve Mookie Betts.

Steven Wright leads the team in xFIP (minimum 1 pitch).

RE: Vazquez' defense rating involving his pitch-framing numbers. How would he look relative to Swihart if we removed the pitch framing numbers? Just trying to grasp how excited to get about swihart if he is remotely similar in terms of additional value from pitch-framing.
Looking at these numbers, why isn't everyone in the general Boston area running around with a mookie in their pants?

That was a long nine minutes waiting for the second post. Great stuff as always. It'd be interesting to see how these numbers stack up against other seemingly elite farm systems like the Cubs.

Mookie Betts is gonna score this inning somehow.

I guess it's understandable when the seeming directive is to get the best draft pick possible.

Allen Craig should just go home to his wife or something and come back in April.

Middlebrooks has always been a high-K kind of guy and it's never surprising when they fail. How many guys are successful while posting minor league strikeout rates in the 25-30% range with BB-rates in the 5-7 range?
Guys with Betts' athleticism (33 SB in 100 games this year) and stat profile (more walks than strikeouts, .180-.210 isolated power) don't generally fail at the MLB level.

If you project his current 107 PA season over a full season he's a 4+ win player right now. He's easily a five-win player next year; he's fast, he walks, he doesn't strike out, he hits ropes everywhere, he could easily be an above-average CF. It's all there. If I'm making a list of 10 most valuable assets in baseball, Betts is on there pretty handily. I legit don't think I would trade him for Stanton straight up given the hugely divergent salary demands. No, hes not easily a 5 win player for next year, and no, Betts is not a top 10 asset in baseball. Prospect love is out of control I don't even view him as a prospect as he's not going back to AAA at this point. This dude is so clearly legit.

133 wRC+ with a .295 BABIP. This guy could be the best hitter on the team next year. I find it hard to believe you can get equal value back for him. How much is a 5 win player making the league minimum worth? His trade value should be as high, if not higher than Giancarlo Stanton's.

I have to question the intelligence and common sense of any athlete who would choose to play football when he is not a star, and thus will be cannon fodder until he gets hurt, over baseball. In the NFL he's going to make 500K a year right out of college. In baseball he's making 30k a year until he maybe makes the majors in 3-4 years. Of course if he can't make an NFL 53-man roster it's not as simple, I'm not sure what practice squad players make.

Looking at the five-year Oliver projections on Fangraphs for the Cubs prospects is amazing. 2018 fWAR for these players: Baez: 6.7 Bryant: 5.3 Russell: 5.4 Soler: 1.3 ( this will probably be like 5.5 after they re-do it after the season he's had) Rizzo: 1.4 Lake: 1.2 Castro: 1.3 Alcantara: 1.6 And Schwarber is hitting better than Bryant did at Hi-A. So wait, are these pre-season projections? Because otherwise how the hell are Rizzo/Castro that low? Yeah, preseason.

Well, checked swings are entirely up to the discretion of the umpire so you can't really argue with it reasonably. A totally infuriating aspect of the sport.

How can you reasonably assess the talents of a hitting coach as a fan?
