Gotta get that fantasy eligibility.

Players who are not 40-man eligible would not need to be protected. So someone like Moncada wouldn't be eligible for an expansion draft next offseason based on the rules of the two previous drafts, assuming he isn't added to the 40-man this season (he almost certainly will not be). There were 70 players selected in the 1997 expansion draft. Is this true? Wikipedia claims all players are eligible unless they're a certain age or were drafted in last two drafts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Major_League_Baseball_expansion_draft#ProceduresBased on those rules I would say Moncada is eligible.

Looked it up for the 1997 expansion draft and wikipedia says: Be interesting to see which 15 players the Red Sox would protect. And then which players they would protect after each round. So an expansion draft for for the 2016 season would take place in November 2015 and would autoprotect players drafted in 2014 and this June and players 18 or younger when signed in 2013, based on above rules. Betts Bogaerts Ramirez Swihart Owens Margot Rodriguez Moncada Johnson Kelly Miley Porcello Vazquez Castillo Pedroia Dunno if that is too youth-heavy. Sandoval would prob get selected but I'm fine with that. Nava, Holt, Buchholz probably.

Its 2015 so i don't even know why there are AL fans and NL fans. They've been playing interleague games for like twenty years now and the Astros just switched leagues. Having different rules for different leagues under the same MLB umbrella is kind of absurd and its been that way for how long now, 50 years? This should be priority 1 in the MLB front offices, it's a severe competitive advantage to AL teams in the world series. The argument that it makes manager decisions more impactful and interesting in late game situations is a load of crap, too, and that's the only argument I've ever heard in favor of DH-less leagues. Do we really want to base the rules of the game on what will make mike scioioiooscia's job mildly more interesting 25 games a year? Also pitchers can't hit so cut it out. If your favorite team is in the AL, you're an AL fan by default. Etc. I haven't watched any Cubs games yet, but I imagine there's a pencil sharpener in the Cubs dugout with Maddon working it. Talk about unbearable. Remember the playoff game when he used 10 pitchers in a 9 inning game? I'm a Red Sox and baseball fan. I suppose I see more AL games, but that's just by virtue of the contrived nature of the scheduling and only really watching/following Red Sox games. Beyond the Sox I have no rooting interest, at least on a team basis—I do root for certain players. I don't care what rules they choose. DH, no DH, pitchers hit, pitchers don't hit, just make it consistent MLB-wide. Do Western Conference NBA teams play with 6 players on the floor?

Last year he played in 72 games, so 100 in a nice bump actually—~40% more games played over the previous year. Let's not throw the 18 year old out there for 140 just yet. He can increase his games played by 10-15 games a year and be ready to assume a full workload (140 games played) at the MLB level when he's 22 if he's ready by then. No one on the Red Sox ever goes over 145 games played anymore anyway, which is probably what you want if you've constructed your team properly with adequate depth.

Is this Nationals team for real? They're gonna have like 300 errors at this rate. What a joke. Just scored three run with two weakly dribbled balls in the infield. And now Betts is up and will prob hit a homer cuz why not.
Desmond is a mess. Almost as bad as Lester.

Could somebody give a poor guy with only gameday access some insight? Were these hits legit or bad defense? Two balls fell in the OF with outfielders just standing there unable to see the ball, or just not communicating with their teammate. And Mookie hit a chopper to third that bounced off the thirdbaseman's glove and rolled through the SS legs. May have been a hit regardless, but a makeable play for sure.

Wow. I mean, that's probably a single anyway with Mookie running, but this is kind of hilarious.

lol lol lol this is the best team in the NL? These guys can't even see the ball in the OF, which either makes Mookie's catch even more impressive or just these Washington OFs are blind.
Mookie going deep here.

You can't throw inside fastballs to Mookie. I mean, c'mon. It's the second inning and Mookie already has a HR, robbed a homer, and stole two bases in one play. Unassisted triple-play next inning, or he catches one in foul ground.
You literally couldn't convince me to trade him for any single player in baseball.

I think if you took half of Sandoval's at-bats and started them 3-0 and then took the other half and started them 0-2, it would have no effect on the end result.

So assuming they reverse this and call him out, can the Red Sox come out and challenge that he was interfered with?

Also, he was probably interfered with on the way to third assuming the tag is there, which it doesn't appear to be anyway.

I love you, Mookie. Don't even care if they reverse the safe call at third.

P.S. you're all gonna regret your comments when Buchholz finishes the game by retiring the final 25 batters in a row.

Teams that win more games have higher winning percentage at the end of the season, on average.

Here's to hoping Tanaka loses it and this turns into a classic slugfest. Yeah, an old 45-39 barnburner.

There is a lot of value in having an exceedingly inconsistent pitcher. If Buchholz has a 5.5 era at the end of the season it's much better if he reaches that number by having a dozen games with a 63 ERA. Those 12 games are auto-losses, but the other 6-7 games he pitches before going on the DL are basically auto-wins.

That Pawtucket rotation is really something else. The lineup too; could have a major leaguer at every position and all homegrown except Weeks.

They didn't win in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2014, though. Hanley could've helped there. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I count six in the bush.
