Lou Merloni said he doesn't set up right to receive throws. He doesn't stretch. Costs some infield hits. Merloni did about 10 minutes on it one night on TV showing the correct way & then tape of Mitch. But hey, he's a Gold Glover. The difference between him and Ramirez definitely isn't glaring. Good thing both are mashing the ball. Mitch: .343/.415/.571 Hanley: .323/.386/.532

Tough loss, we win this game probably 8 or 9 times out of 10. Baseball's weird.
I'm gonna hate Stanton.

Yeah, .280/.350/.500 is eye-popping. That'd make Devers like a top 50 hitter in baseball. FWIW, Steamer has him at .286/.338/.483. That may not seem like a huge difference but that is a pretty decent drop. It's still a 112 wRC+. ZiPs a bit more pessimistic at .273/.324/.487, 109 wRC+. That HR off of Chapman is right there with Bard’s ridiculous 99-mph wiffleball sinker to Swisher in terms of genuinely astounding baseball moments in my lifetime. So true. I'm never ever going to forget that.

Love to see Nunie back, seems like a great guy to have on the team along with being versatile on the field.

The title just makes me imagine Dombrowski running through the streets of Pamplona, Spain, being chased by the players

I wish they extend him ASAP! IMO he's the most talented player in our young core. Mookie's not that old yet! At the plate, I agree with you.

I'd be overjoyed with .270/.330/.480 and 25 homers, and I think it's certainly within the realm of possibility. Which is crazy for a 21 year old. You actually came within a few thousandths of his Steamer projection: .285/.338/.481, with 19 home runs in 126 games. You're not just within the realm of possibility, you're living on 123 Main Street, Possibility, USA. Hadn't even looked at the projections yet. This kid is so good.

Good stuff jmei..that confirms my beliefs. I don't remember a FB waste high and middle-in that Devers pulled with authority...off-speed and lower..yes. He has very good bat speed..no question..but greatest power is always to the pull side.. I hope Devers evolves to be able to pull middle-in while continuing to deliver middle-out to left/left center. If he does, he will probably develop into a 35 plus homer kind of guy. This year will be interesting in how Devers handles a full year in the majors. I'm sort of expecting a (still) pro-longed transition. I wouldn't be surprised, if we see his real capabilities in 2019. IMO I would see him hit about 25 bombs, and have a line of .270/.330/.480/.810 this upcoming season. Certainly I hope he puts up stronger numbers in 2018. I just think a 1st full season in Boston is hard to comprehend. I'd be overjoyed with .270/.330/.480 and 25 homers, and I think it's certainly within the realm of possibility. Which is crazy for a 21 year old.

That said, I'm glad Thome, Vlad, and Chipper got in.

And what does the Dodgers offering Puig for JBJ tell you? In the last 3 years, JBJ has put up 9.8 fWAR and Puig has put up 5.4 fWAR. JBJ has an additional year of control and isn't a headcase like Puig is. The Red Sox were absolutely right to just say no and not bother to negotiate further on that joke of an offer. It tells me that the Dodgers are overrating him too. War can be misleading sometimes. In this case its because Jackie is so good defensively. Thats skewing the numbers. Remember Puig is coming off a bounce back year, so his down years skew his numbers down. Defense is half the game.

You can also designate him for assignment. That literally just happened to Adrian Gonzalez and his massive salary and may likely happen to Matt Kemp. In 2017, a lot of teams appear to realize that salaries for aging underperforming former stars are sunk costs. Why would you want Deven Marrero on your roster instead of Hanley Ramirez? (How many times have I asked this question?) You DFA guys who project to be worthless (as Gonzalez and Kemp do). Steamer projects Hanley to be worth maybe $7M in a 10th-player role (and Marrero to be less than worthless), and Steamer doesn't know that Hanley played most of 2017 and 2015 hurt and that one of the main points of demoting him to 10th player is so he doesn't have to play hurt. Thank you

Someone tell me why we're going to give JD Martinez twice what we could have signed Carlos Martinez for. Not sure how a pitcher would help us with our need for a power bat
