I don't love the guy but I also don't see any realistic option out there who would be noticeably better.

Yeah well, it probably starts with Mookie/Benintendi. A lot of teams are going to be interested in acquiring Stanton, who will be traded. The Yankees have as good a shot as anybody, but I doubt it will cost them Sanchez or Judge and I doubt it would cost the Sox Benintendi or Mookie although if the Sox were willing (stupid enough) to part with them, a deal could be made. I would think the Marlins would want Torres from the Yankees or Devers from the Red Sox, and I don't see even Dombrowski dealing Benintendi or Devers. Odds are it's the best package of prospects or whoever is willing to give up low experienced top notch talent. I think the former is more likely than the latter. There really isn't anybody in the farm system that I would say is totally off-limits for Stanton. With Devers graduated only Groome and Chavis are blue-chip prospects and you can make the argument that they're not THAT untouchable. I'd be concerned with the Yankees getting Stanton given Jeter's close ties with the organization and Cashman, and I figure they'll either go after Stanton or Harper, but with the idea that Stanton is more likely going to cost less money and you get him for the 2018 season while you'd have to wait and hope not to be outbid for Harper. I'd be surprised if the Yankees don't wind up with either Stanton in 2018 or Harper in 2019 - I think they'll get one of those guys with the other going elsewhere. Stanton would fit the Red Sox offense beautifully (as well as everybody else's, right?). The Red Sox have some really good young hitters but nobody that's a monster the way Ortiz was. Benintendi and Devers are shaping up to be middle of the order hitters, and Betts is one, already, but could be perfect in the #2 spot in the order with his penchant for speed, power and getting on base. How does: Pedroia, Betts, Benintendi, Stanton, Devers, and Bogaerts sound for the first six in 2018? The biggest chip the Sox would have would be Chavis, and it might cost them Groome as well, but I think that's probably a package that can be topped by another big market team. An alternative route would be to chase JD Martinez, and as an old Dombrowski favorite, that's a very plausible scenario. I'd like to think that his 40 HR power is now close to his new baseline, but who knows? With Stanton, I'm not trying to say that 59 is his new baseline, but rather he's one of the consistently top power hitters of this decade, and the only think holding him back has been injuries. He could save wear and tear on the Red Sox by DHing or learning 1b. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Stanton. But the price he would command would be astronomical and not worth it in the end. I'd be down for JD Martinez but I'm not sure if we have shown any interest

The homers don't count as BABIP, right? I don't think balls off the Monster should count either if they're uncatchable. Absolutely. Probably the main reason Sox teams and hitters tend to run higher BABIPs than others.

Ed has been brilliant, sheesh. Way too many pitches. When you're up 6, just throw strikes and let them hit the ball. Joe West has also been generous for a change. That's a fair point, but the stuff has looked great. Tons of swings-and-misses.

No Núñez or Pedroia at second tomorrow. Sounds like Brock Holt and his .178 batting average in a pennant race. don't forget about Tzu-Wei
