The Diamondbacks claimed Owens. Not surprising given who runs their dugout and front office.

Henry Owens put on waivers. What could have been. I’m sure he’ll clear at this point. I'm not too sure he clears. Obviously he has major flaws in his game, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if a team claims him. If his BB% was even league average, he'd be at least a back end starter for someone. I'm sure there's a team out there that thinks they could fix him.

Stanton and Altuve win MVP awards. Altuve ran away with it, while Stanton just barely beats Votto with 302 points to Votto's 300.

To DD's defense, his choice was between keeping the inferior manager or being subject to the PR nightmare of firing a manager as he was just finishing up chemo. I think we all knew the correct decision, but not surprisingly he made the choice which didn't put his job at risk. Except that Farrell developed cancer in August 2015, which is when Lovullo took over. It would have been a PR nightmare to fire him after *that* season. But last year? Clearly winning the division didn't mean jack to DD, so he should have made Lovullo the manager after last year.

Several familiar names on there: Justin Masterson, Casey Kelly, Felix Doubront, Garin Cecchini, Ryan Kalish, Tiger Death House, Nefi Ogando, Jonathan Aro, Aaron Kurcz, Cleuluis Rondon. Wow, I haven't thought about Casey Kelly in years. I remember seeing him a few times when he was in high school, always thought he'd be a solid pitcher in the league. It kind of blows my mind how long it's been, and that he never established himself.

I can't remember if I said this before the season, or even early this year, but I always thought that the Pats could have got a better(?) pick for Jimmy before this year's draft.
Hindsight is 20/20, and this thought sounds even more ridiculous at this point in the season, but I really wanted Watson to back up Brady for a year or two before taking over NE.
I know Watson went 12th overall, but I still dream about a world in which we had him riding the bench right now, under the best QB ever. It would have taken some work to get up to that pick, but imagine where the Pats would be sitting right now.

There's no way anyone expected Gregorious to hit a HR off Kluber.

I just saw Clay Buchholz' name in a random article I read, and was a little surprised that I completely forgot he exists.

Sale clearly handed the Cy Young to Kluber after tonight, but man have I enjoyed this ride. We all had high hopes for him, but 8 WAR and 300+ strikeouts in his first season? We are all incredibly lucky to have watched this season.

a 2nd round draft ---------------------- It could be worse, because it involved NY. I don't know what kind of precedent there is for punishment? Anyway MLB should have warned --if they didn't-- about various technologies which shouldn't be used in a game. Cards gave up their 1st two picks to the Astros for their hacking thing and $2 million in fines. I think we'll forfeit our 2nd rounder and maybe a million or two in fines. Oh well. The Cardinals hacking into the Astro's system was a lot worse than this probably is. What they did was straight up illegal. This just seems like blatant rule breaking. I don't see how these are comparable.

I'm honestly a little surprised that the Marlins are going to lower their payroll. I would be pretty upset if I was a fan of them.
Meet the new guy, same as the old guy.

Stanton with two more home runs, bringing his total to 49. I didn't think it was possible, but he's got a decent shot at breaking Maris' record.

9 no hit innings for hill, but the score is 0-0. As far as I'm concerned, he has his no hitter. If his offense did anything for him, they'd be celebrating right now.

Rich Hill with a perfect game through 6 innings. Only 64 pitches thrown. If he finishes with a perfect game, or even a no hitter, that has to be the most improbable outcome of all time. Right?
Edit: error on Forsythe on the first pitch if the 9th. What a shame. No hitter still in tact, despite the score being 0-0 in the bottom of the 9th.

Davis' home run off Champman in the WS last year was absolutely insane. I can imagine Chapman developing PTSD if he has to face Devers and Davis in the same game.

Wow, great play by Devers. I know he was safe, but still. Great range and an excellent throw.

Sometimes I wonder if the best guy on this team to trade is actually Benintendi or Bradley. Benintendi could play center field for most teams and be a stud there. He's being underutilized in Fenway's LF. We don't have anyone to step into that slot but you could make a strong case that this team is optimized by trading a Jackie Badley and moving Benintendi to CF, and signing Justin Upton in the off season to play LF. I see your point here, but I would bet just about anything that Benintendi is off limits. However, I still wish the Sox had traded Bradley in the Sale deal, instead of Kopech. I thought that would have benefited the White Sox more. Especially since they traded Eaton just a few days later.

I know this isn't the right place for this, but I was interested in seeing Sale's season and career stats against the Yankees. Anyone know where I can easily view this without going through each years game logs?

Michael Kay just said something about how Devers has already surpassed Sandoval's RS career in advanced metrics like WAR. The kid came in tonight at .8 in 18 games. Panda was -2.2 in his 2.5 years. Most incredible to me is that Panda was already at -.2 in only three games and seven PAs last year. I mean, how is that posssible? I suppose that's possible when you're so overweight that your belt bursts in the middle of an at bat.

Rafael "little papi" Devers. The chosen one. He might be shorter than Big Papi, but he ain't little The "little" part was just me not having a good enough name based on Big Papi. You're right, he certainly isn't little; but, the the opposite field bombs he's had are practically a flash back to Ortiz abusing the Green Monster.

I walked outside after Vazquez did his interview, and my neighbor asked why I was screaming like a girl.
Because the Sox won on a walk off HR from their catcher(!!!) , DUH!

I bet that no one could have guessed Sale would end up with a no decision on a night when the Sox score 9 runs. Well, 9 runs up to this point.
