I can't imagine a scenario where the Sox sign him. Since he's debuted, every season seems to alternate from good/really good, to replacement level. His defensive metrics are also nothing to brag about.
His agent is Boras, and this past off season he had already floated the idea of Hosmer potentially getting 10 years due to his age. While that's obviously absurd, he'll still probably get at least 5-6 years, and I want no part of that contract.
I don't think he's good enough to make a long term commitment to. Especially at 1B.

Wow. Brantley totally lost that ball. That was weird.

Curious what everyone thinks he'll get as a FA next season? Is a $20 million a year guy like EE last offseason as primarily a DH? Clearly he's a top tier bat, but his borderline atrocious defense in the outfield isn't going to help his case. He'll only be 30 when next season starts. I could see him getting a 5 year deal. Maybe 6 years if someone is desperate to get the bat. I don't think somewhere around 20M per year is far off. Last off-season, EE was held back to due age, so I see JD blowing past what he got (overall), since he's 4(?) years younger. I'll leave my guess at 5/110, or 6/125 if the bidding gets that high.

Will Devers still have rookie eligibility next year? Not at this rate.

Before the season started, I honestly thought that a September call up was the best case scenario for Devers. I never would have thought he'd be going 4 for 4 as our starting 3B in July.
I love being wrong!

Am I the only one who laughed when Gomes called himself a "connoisseur of chicken wings," paused for five seconds, and then said "my wife is from buffalo."

I'm willing to bet that literally no one expected Vazquez to hit a triple tonight.
Come on Rafael, drive him in.

Xander had to be thinking that ball was going to third. Why else would he tag from first?

Duda to the Rays for Drew Smith, Tampa's #30 prospect. That's all it took?
Edit: took me almost five hours to realize I put "Dude," instead of Duda. And autocorrect almost got me again.

Man, Pomeranz really pounded the zone against seager right there. Too bad that 2(!) different guys couldn't field it.

If players are upset with what Eck says on the air, that should be a personal issue they take up with him by themself.
I won't argue for or against either side of this, since I'm sure there's more to it than just what's been reported, but if this story is true that's pathetic.
If a situation did occur where Price called out Eck, wouldn't let him respond, and then told him to GTFO, to the applause of some teammates, that is truly sad.

I gotta say, I'm very surprised they're promoting him this quick. I'm all for it, as I think it makes more sense than a trade, but I really thought he'd be in Pawtucket until September.

Regarding Castillo and others whose contracts don't equate to their performance... what are your thought on a player agreeing to rip up and renegotiate the contract to make himself more marketable? Didn't ARod try something like this years ago and the union or MLB reject it? I know MLB contracts are guaranteed, as opposed to the NFL, where we often see players/teams renegotiate deals. Not an answer to your question, but didn't Jason Bay agree to give up salary when the Mets were done with him?

I'm gonna be "that guy," and throw out the crazy idea that maybe the Sox should just roll with some combo Holt and Marrero/Lin. It's not ideal, but it can't get worse than what the team has already had. They're still in first, so I can live with replacement level at third base. Is it worth giving up prospects to get another win or two?

Don't know how real this is, lots of rumors, especially with Frazier scratched Glenn forti 7m RT @wojverllcalnba: #WhiteSox trade 3B Todd Frazier and RP David Robertson to #RedSox. Boston sends 3B Michael Chavis, RHP Travis Lakins, cash, and PTBNL. If that's what it ends up being, I can live with that. This is a classic sell high move by DD. Edit: I read too quick. As further comments have said, it may be fake, but if not I don't like it if the Red Sox have to include any money.

Underwhelming return for Detroit You would think that lowers the cost for Frazier....right? How much can you compare Martinez and Frazier in terms of trade value? Sure, Martinez rates as a terrible outfielder now, but he's also running a WRC+ 59 points higher than Frazier. He's also been worth .6 more war, despite playing 24 less games and have about 100 less plate appearances. I can't see how the White Sox can expect anything close to what the Diamondbacks just got. Edit: I missed my point, which was that I think this trade doesn't impact Frazier's value at all. He's worth less than Martinez, so it may make him slightly more affordable, but I don't think by much, if at all.

I'm sure this has been discussed recently, but why isn't Pedroia in the leadoff spot? He has the best OBP on the team, with second place(Benintendi) .29 points behind him.
His numbers are bad when leading off this year, in a SSS, but he was great hitting leadoff last year. My only guess why he isn't hitting first is that his speed and power have dropped, but does that matter if you're still getting on base?

I clearly missed something, as I just now found out that the league that wins the AS game doesn't get automatic home field advantage in the World Series. I'm assuming it's now based on which team had the better regular season record?

I don't care who wins the derby, but it's pretty cool to see that Judge and Bellinger are against each other in the second round.

Brilliant idea to fire the manager of the team with 2nd best record in the AL with all the injuries and this team has suffered. This! I understand why some think that JF is awful and should be fired, but the Sox are still in first place, with a 3(?) Game lead. They're still the second best team in the AL, despite the team's black hole at 3B, inconsistent starting pitching, etc. I'm not too concerned about him being the manager, at least until the playoffs start.

Honestly, I would much rather have Marrero at 3B than Sandoval. If salary was an irrelevant factor, I can't imagine anyone saying they would prefer Pablo.
