The Sox might sign a guy like Chris Oliver to a slightly lower than "slot" to make up for a slightly higher than "slot" guy like Chavis. I think Chavis will cost us slightly more.

Is the 2014 draft as deep as the 2011 draft?

The change in Ball's and Miles Smith's deliveries hopefully will save on wear and tear on their elbows. I'm not sure if either can adjust well, and it may take more developmental time.

It's not a bad idea at all to put him third. Ortiz won't get walked quite as often if there is a guy on first. In some ways Xander reminds me a young Ryne Sandberg.

If we make the post season we'll probably need a base stealer again. Could Betts be our best current internal option?

I wasn't blown away by the video. It is a very small sample size though. The GCL is a good starting point. Lets see how he does and take it from there. He's not a Bryce Harper at this point. I wonder if Devers will walk a lot?

I do see Bradley making slow adjustments. It looks like the pitchers are adjusting already to his adjustments. Lets see if Bradley will adjust faster.

I would like to see some stolen bases out of him. Otherwise offensively he looks like a good prospect.

How many times does Mookie get on base today? I'm going with 2.

If Clay goes on the DL for some reason I bet Workman would get the call up. Or Capuano gets the start and Britton is called up for bullpen depth. RDLR has earned a shot though.

Our scouting has to find diamonds in the rough. That will be next to impossible over the long haul, unless we have a couple of bad years.

Welcome to Soxprospects! If he continues to play at such a high level they'll make room for him. I was wondering if his base running is good enough that he might get a call up in September. Also keep in mind that just one injury in the future could create a opening for him. That won't happen today, but it could happen this much later this year or next.

How did he fair against other high school all-stars? At number 7 I would of drafted a higher bottom end prospect with good upside. Part of my disappointment is with how weak the 2013 draft was. Ball is a high risk prospect who I lowered my hopes on, since I took a look back on the 2013 draft.

The Red Sox may be prudent to give him a drug and alcohol assessment.

If Betts puts together a year like 2013, he should be ranked number one. Anybody have any similar thoughts on potential jumps that could happen?

I find it ironic that Jake Peavy wants drew back, but he may be the one to get traded to afford signing Drew.

I see his average going up if the pitch to him rather than walking him.

I'm excited about Owens. If he ends up being a number 3 LH starter for the Red Sox that would be huge. If he ends up as a number four that would still be pretty good. Does Owens have a good feel for all his pitches or some of them?

When I first at a prospects projectability I looked at stats first followed by a scouting report. What I saw a stat line like a guy hitting 300 it would catch my eye. Then I would want a scouting report. Later on a good scouting report would catch my eye. While now a good scouting report means more to me you can't count out a guy that continues to hit or pitch with really good numbers.

According to Peter Gammons the Red Sox are interested in Korean right-hander Suk-Min Yoon and Cuban right-hander Raicel Iglesias.

I wanted to know the 2015 salary to determine our financial flexibility Four 2015 and beyond. Looking at the Red Sox budget for 2015 they should be able to afford both Laster and Tanaka. In order to afford Tanaka for 2014 the Red Sox would need to trade Peavy and or Dempster. The big question is should we signing Tanaka? Ultimately the signing of Tanaka will come down to how much the Red Sox feel his value is.

I was wondering if someone knew what the Red Sox payroll for 2015? One aspect of signing Tanaka is that we would have probably two starting pitcher trade chips. You can never have too many good prospects. Thank you in advance.
