I want two top 10 ranked Sox prospects out of this draft. Ranked at the end of the year on here.

The Sox aren't contenders this year, so taking a chance on him is fine. The Sox need innings and trade chips at the deadline. I also prefer to not put to much pressure on the young arms.

Here is a small list of starting pitching prospects I started up a few weeks ago. If I left somebody off my list it's because they are already well known like Wake Forest pitchers. 1st Round * Body Brecht RHP throws 104 mph Thatcher Hurd RHP * Hagen Smith LHP * Johnathan Santucci LHP
2nd Round Ryan Forcucci RHP 93-93 with some projection
* Underslot signing

Oh, Brewers signed Woodruff shortly after the Sox signed Hendrick. Interesting timing.

The Sox can make this type of sign, because they aren't contending this year(barring a miracle).
The timeline for coming back from TJS is 9 months to never.
We all hope it is before the trade deadline.
Hendrick's may be our 2025 closer.

A proven slightly above average with 3 years of team control for a high A pitcher whose 3rd best pitch is a rarely used is a fair trade to me. To me it is an ok tread. If you read more scouting reports you'll understand my point of view. I don't understand why KC made the trade considering they have 0 chance at a World Series. I hope Sandlin reaches his upside. Was Schreiber over used like most relievers?

I just want BPA(That is near slot) in the 1st round always! I'd love a pitcher heavy draft for once without reaching after the 1st round. I'm excited for this draft.

NO! This is a bad idea in so many ways. It's Spring Training. Revisit in the future if you want a blockbuster trade.

I think the most interesting element of the BP list is that they still have Rafaela at 59. I like him as a prospect, but we discuss his (very real and obvious) developmental challenges so frequently, that maybe some of us (myself included) are overcorrecting a bit in terms of our evaluation. I assumed he'd be an honorable mention on most lists, or maybe in the back 10-20 names on a few lists. 59 is higher than I expected to see him, anywhere. RE Mayer: I could see him going anywhere from the mid teens to 50. The main mitigating factor folks will point to (his struggles in AA being due to playing through an injury) underscore a separate concern for Mayer (durability). I mean, even if he hits for a Sandy Leon-esque 60 wRC+, his defense in CF gives him like a 2 WAR floor as a full-time player. He’s a major leaguer as long as he can hit at least a little bit. Rafaela has even more value for his high level of defensive flexibility as well.

Unless they are planning a trade and shedding payroll to extend the player I don't understand it. It may explain why they had problems signing a new GM. If the Sox trade for a "Burnes" type of pitcher, they may be acquiring trade chips while shedding payroll. I don't think this is what is going on. I think the FO is surprised by FA inflation again.
With the Sox potentially finishing last again I don't mind them being near the LTT. For long term success another year of building up may be wise after missing out on Yamamota.

Well, given Breslow's tendency to want command/control over stuff, it seems Montgomery is a no-brainer over Snell. I agree with the "SEEMS" and "no-Brainer". I'd sign Montgomery and Woodruff. I live in Wisconsin and Woodruff's leadership is threw the roof. I'd gamble on a 5 year contract with Woodruff.

I feel if Ohtani goes to Toronto that LAD goes all in on Yamamoto, and we end up with Montgomery. Lots of teams, like the Cubs will be in play on Montgomery. I think we'll trade for Burnes and sign a Lugo type pitcher. I hope I'm wrong though, because the price for Burnes will be steep.

Thank you for pointing that out Chris. I was about to point out he returns to the Sox.
When did the rules change where he could be put on waivers? I thought the rule was he had to be offered back at half the price. I do know you can trade a rule 5 though. I just don't recall teams being able to put a player on waivers.
I also wonder if the Red Sox knew he could be "waved/paused" of his Navy commitment.

I was wonder if Bello will have an innings limit this year. How do you think the Sox would address it?

The Sox add to their upper level pool of arms to trade from. Plus the two are right-handed. It's a win win trade.

Zanetello getting 3 mil makes me wonder if he was an option at 14 in a world where Teel and Shaw were both gone. Was honestly expecting 14 to be a high school position player around 3-3.5 mil. Maybe the security of the Teel pick allowed them to go after a toolsy, first-round talent that they’d usually find too risky to pop as a first rounder. I still feel like McGonigle, who ironically got a lower bonus than Nazzan, or Miller would’ve been the underslot at 14 because of the higher confidence in their hit tools You have really good thoughts here. What I heard was this. A college bat first. Teel was expected to be gone at 14. They had a plan A, B and C. The Cubs picked plan C. Teel was the best player available, so they drafted him. Then Zenetello is available in the second round! He's a great athlete, with great character, and a good baseball player. He might of been their next BPA after Teel. They have to draft him. I don't think they "punted" the rest of the draft at all. This is a very very deep draft where I imagine teams wanted more 1-3 million dollar players. The Sox did the opposite as they should of. They were able to pivot in this draft. I like several other draft picks. It's one of my favorite drafts in 35 years of following the Sox draft.

What would we need to give up to obtain Ohtani? If he signs a long-term contract: If he is a rental:

I thought they would sign Taylor or Call, but not both. Unless we sign one of the three picks far below expected cost. Only bad medicals on one of our first three picks would do that.

Question on this one - if Wehunt was going to cost a little money, why not wait until rounds 11-13 and try to draft him? I know the obvious answer is "he might not be there" but was just curious if there's any nuance here that I wouldn't know about as a casual draft watcher. Certainly, the he might be there is part of it. 1 team could have had the same idea to get him underslot. I think its important context to remember while the signing may be more or less savings than we expected, it's not what the Red Sox expected (Jud Fabian not withstanding). They had an idea what it would take to sign these two and that theory is backed up by the fact they are the 1st 2 to sign, and so quickly, so the difference of that projected $190K from what initially thought, isn't the difference on whether they sign Oloski or Call IMO. Sadly, I think our picks we see as value may sign for more. I'd hate to predict how much they'll sign for.

Pretty wild to me they drafted two 6’7” 240 lbs. moose’s and neither throws gas. Not a complaint. You would just think at that size, they’d be upper 90’s. Leverage downward plain plays up. Maybe they can add the knuckleball. I wonder with the pitch clock if it'd play up?

I wonder if just our first 3 picks get over slot. Hmmm Good luck this year on guessing Mike A.
