Is gameday right? Grand slam but they got the runner out at second? Requires a lot of talent to celebrate so hard before getting all the way back to collect his prize. Aother thought on the woo sox 1st game is isn't it nice to see Jacques earn that 40 man spot some don't see him having anyway?

This year has been more difficult to see college baseball in general from various sports networks.. sec, longhorns channel etc. Reason? This year they ALL have began broadcasting what seems to be lots more women's softball, replay upon replay of previous season's college football games, ditto basketball and other sports. It's like baseball has been shoved to the rear of the que list.
coming from someone who has always loved the game at the collegiate level and counted on this as a way to get good eye on coming talent, only now university channels are going the way of negative society it looks like.

Joely just lives in the middle of the plate Sure is nice to have brenandino at AAA and Rodriquez on the roster, just because of who has the opt out. Who cares which is the best and if keeping the sucky dude costs games.

So Red Sox are going to have a fully healthy starting 5 all year? It's going to be fun to watch this rotation when your normal injuries happen. Good thing Whitlock and Houck don't have a history of getting injured. Let's call it for what this likely is, tank to get a high pick. Let's just hope our new GM doesn't mess up the deadline. How about really call it like it is. Poor trades over the years. not retaining franchise and quality players. Drafting and signing IFA talent, which have generally not been optimal with the exception of a few the last 8-10y. It's not hard to see why the smart breslow isn't inclined to pay a mid rotation montgomery 25m guaranteed for 1 y, plus be on the hook for more when this poor looking team (as it currently sits) could very well finish in last place a 3rd year in a row. Why not try and retool once again, rather than pander to a never satisfied NE media and never satisfied portion of the Sox fanbase who refuse to see how bad this current team is?

Find it personally sickening if Rodriquez and Anderson are on the roster just because they have -00 options. The -0- opttions game costs teams wins, always has and is so easy to see. Always go with the best player available and it's in no way quad A guys like joely rodriquez and chase anderson.

Nothing to do with today's game itself, but the Nesn broadcast in general.. which is "tearing".. like jumping a very little and has been off and on all ST. The MLB game is not today if anyone else has noticed.

Chase Anderson. Not the pitcher we wanted, but at least a MLB arm. Debatable. Hasn't had a season with an ERA below 5 since 2019. He has been the walking definition of "replacement level" Guess the FO was not able to find another Chris Webber type of discard to sign for a miLB deal.

Thanks for that. Was pretty sure Hill had had full blown TJ before, but was years before the "brace" surgery.
Above wanted to insert hyperlink to, but soxprospects has changed and wouldn't allow. Twinsdailey the article involving Hill and his numerous injuries over the year, incl his brace from 8y afterwards.

Has a pitcher ever got the brace procedure done before? I don't recall hearing one getting it before but then again I'd never heard of it being a thing until last year with Story either so it seems like it's a relatively new procedure? Hopefully this means a full healthy offseason for Giolito and he can come back for 2025 as a member of the rotation from day one. I think Rich Hill had it done. I am not sure though. Didn't Hill, like few yrs afterward require the full blown, UCL replacement?

My bad and I'm glad you pointed it out. But I'll stand by my larger point, which is that his conduct was deemed egregious enough to merit a harsh penalty. Given that, I can't argue with the posters who said they'd rather not have him on the RS. As a concept I agree, but in the same way a HR department is there to safeguard the company more than anything, so will the MLB act in regards to its own brand. You can be declared "not-guilty/Innocent" and still get suspended just off the optics of the situation. Trevor Bauer is a good example, even though he's a bit of a douche. Put himself in a bad place, something people with common sense try to avoid and I don't see him as a ban type to not sign with another team. Sports, like other areas way to forgiving of any crimes now for someone not to. Have mentioned this before, still will not name the former sox player, who later on had a short mlb career.. boston kicked to the curb a sox farm hand many years ago arrested for rape. While the case turned into a he said/she said thing and he never was found guilty, his career was FINISHED as even a minor leaguer. Allowing players back, with 10x more cases like this happening with guys in sprts is a lot more than bad optics, but degradation of morals themselves and those always screaming to give them a break, only because they had a little athletic talent.

1) Boras, half are "his" guys.
2) You can bet on it. Soon as nobody falls for guys like Snell wanting 300m? Boras's fallback option is combo of spout lies and subjugate.

I have long believed that team opt-outs should exist. It only seems fair to me anyway. If you stink, let the team cut you. That’s how efficient markets should behave anyway. Team opt-outs do exist. They're called "team options." The team "opts out" by not picking up the option. But I'm curious about your logic. Does the player get compensated for all the extra value they give the team? Or are they still on league minimum salary in the early years, then only paid contract value when they outperform their contract, only to be cut loose as soon as the team decides they're not worth it anymore?
This used to be oh so simple to understand, but last few years many on one side seem incapable of comprehending the difference between owners of ANY buisness and ANY employee and WHO takes the majority of ALL financials risks.

One tiny issue, is boras nearly always finds a sucker late in the offseason to overpay "his" guys, even as late as the start of ST, like the guy can smell a maroon and exploit them with one of his silk covered books full of 100% bs.. U know.. Like the one he was handing out to GM's which compared Oliver Perez to Randy Johnson...

What does Teoscar give you that Rhys Hoskins doesn’t? Is Hoskins a terrible outfielder? I love his bat and, unlike Teoscar, he can actually draw a walk. Where is the market on Hoskins? I can’t say I’ve heard a single rumor on him. Could the Sox get him on the cheap given that he is coming back from injury? Hoskins is an absolutely atrocious outfielder. He last played substantial amounts of OF in 2018, and he was worth -17 OAA in ~130 games worth of innings in LF. The only worse defenders at any position in 2018 were Omar Narvaez and Nick Castellanos. He should be treated as purely 1B/DH. Hernandez isn't an incredible outfielder, but he's also totally playable. He was pretty average in RF for Seattle last year; 0 OAA, 1 DRS. Hernandez was also a better hitter from 2020-2022. Hernandez had a weak 2023 by his standards and underlying metrics are trending down, but Hoskins missed all of 2023 with an ACL injury, so it's not really any better for him. I like Hoskins' bat, but he doesn't fit this team imo. Because of Casas he would be a DH only, and I don't think we should be signing full-time DHs unless they have truly exceptional bats, which Hoskins doesn't. Otherwise I'd rather roster a guy who can also field (e.g. Hernandez) and rotate guys through DH to keep them fresh, to protect injured players, and to keep hot bats in the lineup. My 2c is neither. Watching many of Hernandez's games with Seattle playing RF last season? Does -0- good to have a good arm, nor be a decent defender when said player is without a clue as to which base to correctly throw to, when to hit a cutoff man etc.. Same goes to defensively taking correct routes in the field. Why this guy gets rated so high is beyond me.

The quote is definitely damning to anyone who thinks it is applicable to a Baseball Ops dude who has been in charge for one (1) offseason month. Could be referencing non player personel among Sox levels. Used to be jobs as coaches were kind of a reward to a player/buddy sometimes. maybe there are a few known around the league just like that who are really not qualified, yet hold jobs. Not popular am sure among many on this site, but it did happen at one time and really don't see why it could have stopped, other than it defeats any purpose of developing young kids. Could name names of ones years ago figured got coaching jobs exactly same way described in Athletic article.

Outside of Burnes, Keller and Cease I don’t see a ton of impact on the trade market either. Seattle is a wild card but if we’re talking Kirby or Gilbert they would probably want a young hitter like Casas. They want to win next year too I don’t think they’d deal those two for prospects only. I'd give up Casas and a decent prospect, say Rafaela for Gilbert. him moreso than Kirby. both under control for 4y and definite front end arms. Go with Turner again as P/T 1b and Jordan, as it stands now is 1b of the future unless something else comes along.

Cease has better pure stuff than Crawford , just needs to harness it , I think Bailey would do wonders with him Not necesarily better pure "stuff", but Cease can maintain it longer. Crawford's kutter and slider both have better bit in shorter periods, not to mention he throws 97mph in 2-3IP bursts, rather than being expected to maintain being on the mound for 80+ pitches. Long ago Sox pitcher Reggie Cleveland always comes to mind whenever see a guy.. like Crawford and Houck, Winckowski who could have been an outstanding pitcher, had he been used properly 45y ago instead of expected to throw 100p. No different now when can easily see with angles of video less drop and velocity as pitches climb, hence effectiveness goes away but some teams refuse to change. boston has been terrible at this for years.

With a two year tax window, Pivetta and Verdugo are probably the most likely trade pieces. See Pivetta being moved also if cannot get him back into long relief, where Houck, Whitlock, even Crawford really should be. To get Pivetta back to LR would require acquiring more starters than Sox will be doing am pretty sure however.

There is such cognitive dissonance in this discussion. Our farm system, according to the the universe of "experts," has such a paucity of pitching that some believe warrants being ranked the 16th team in baseball. Meanwhile, the premise of much of this discussion is that other teams are clamoring to grab our unprotected pitchers, specifically one pitcher whose AAA results are appalling. I think a more compelling discussion would be whether we're going to lose Castro or Bonaci. Nobody is picking Brainer, I can tell you that much Castro is the guy I’d be most worried about but he’s so far away i can’t see him sticking Agree CDJ. Why people just figure those with (possible) reprehensible crimes are in demand, brings to me the memory of the thouroughly dispicable player and so called, human being Elijah Dukes, who was another bad apple who got his start in the Rays organization and throughout his MiLB and MLB career, kept on piling up reprehensible acts before his last team (Nats) showed him the door for good. Write up, tho short just off ED's wikepedia page. Few things missing can remember from his days in Tampa, but this list reads like a novel: Give Bonaci a chance, by all means but I don't see another team wasting a valuable 40 man spot.

I chalk it up to especially bad vibes at that particular moment, but it was strange seeing so many people post about dumping Yoshida in the offseason last week. No, he hasn’t been Ichiro or Jose Abreu or any other (rare) spectacular international free agent that comes to mind, but he’s pretty good! Given the questions, comments, and concerns from December, if you invented a time machine to go back and post that he’d have an .821 OPS on Labor Day, I think a lot of people would be doing cartwheels. I haven’t ruled out further improvement/consistency/reliability in year 2. ~.300 hitters don’t grow on trees. I’d still slot him in at DH next year and for the remainder of his contract if he remains viable. For me it’s more about roster construction than his quality as a hitter/player. You just can’t survive defensively with a roster that has him, Devers, and Turner on it. I think Turner is more critical to the team than Yoshida is and would like him back. That said I’m not gonna cry about keeping him around, he hits enough to be worthwhile. And if he can help recruit Yamamoto then A+ you have a job for the entire length of your contract Only problems are Turner is 38YO and is Yoshida's defense in LF any worse than Devers at 3b? With you that 1 of the 2 really needs to be the DH because neither helps the team at all in the field, but which one?

Once the regular season is over (I will follow the Red Sox closely until then) - my interest will lie with Baltimore (love the ballpark, glad to see them finally doing well) and Seattle (we lived there for a year, our daughter still does - they are also deserving), but won't pay much attention to the NL teams (but as always love to see Mookie doing well) Yeah. Loved the O's and M's as well. O's since Weaver was GM and M's for strange reason.. because imo, they have the best pbp announcer in the game, Dave Simms. Sox this year are cooked. this isn't the 77-78 team, which had 3-4 future HOF guys and explosive teams capable of blowing away opponents at any time to make up lost ground now. Last week was brutal.

Question: it seems to me the Red Sox could've appointed Nelly Taylor as a draft and follow and sign him after tomorrow's deadline. Then of his bonus of 300K only 75K would've counted against the cap. Can someone explain why they didn't do this? The extra 75K probably isn't enough to move the needle on any of the three remaining high schoolers anyway, but I'm still curious. Polk *was* a 2yr college and draft info pegs him as a sophomore. He had his time there and *used* to be Polk was for 2yr associates degree, or 1st 2y of schooling there and transfer to get a bachelor's degree. Admit am not up on how PCC has traversed over the years, but did go there under GI Bill for 2y many-a decade ago.

Not been to Ft Myers personally since 2021, but then and earlier can only say that have never seen Tek when we made the drive south for multiple days during the FCL season most seasons prior to that and Geddy (Rich Gedman) was the only "known" prior catcher, who coaches in the system saw and chatted with. Those who might remember Geddy from his playing days may remember he wasn't exactly the best defensive C boston ever drafted from the outset, but became a good glove guy by the time he arrived at the MLB level with the Sox. Met Gedman on the cape at a baseball expo one year. I was a shy kid so I was nervous to talk to him after my dad told me who he was (I was a mere -6 years old for that 1986 team lol). I remember him being so friendly with everybody. Signed a ball for me. Geddy roomed with Pete Ladd and Dennis Burtt after he was drafted while with the Hasox and that place was next street over in a small apartment complex. geddy was, like you mentioned really a nice guy, like his old teammate pete Ladd and just a blast to chat with even then, the 1978 season. Have posted here, or written elsewhere many of the stories from those days, but with Geddy? it was how he managed to put up good numbers at Winter haven while at the same time terrible allergy problems, so much so where sometimes his face and eyes were very red and putting on all that gear like he did, Orange Blossoms believe it was finally found out the cause, but how he worked his way thru 1 area many don't think of when it comes to the game. That season he was "here" and they won the FSL title he gave me a team picture a photographer from local newspaper had taken of the team which won the FSL crown that year, wrote bunch of nice things on back of it. Have met many players over the years, some of course outgoig and very friendly towards fans. Some terrific guys.. Himself, Ladd, Danny Weppner, Luis deleon just a few, then some who have the attitude problem many develop once they get to the MLB level. Geddy rates highest and might correct me.. But think haSox manager (then) Rac Slider worked with him on his placement behind the dish mostly that season with Rac being a former MiLB C himself in his day.

Does Jason Varitek spend time with the minor league affiliates during the season? I feel like I always see him in the dugout. So, when would he work with Teel? Spring training? I basically don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Scott Boras.
