He has real power and room for nutrition/workout/ age based improvements.
He would be a year of lf/1b backup and insurance and then Cespedes/Napoli/Victorino replacement.
I think 100 sounds very high to me.
Castillo money is probably more like what it will take.

To me he doesn't have to be an above average hitter for a catcher to have an mlb career ( you are saying above that he projects already to be an above average as a hitting catcher if I understand you correctly ). He just has to be better overall as a player than the worst overall catcher in the league. The added value of being able to play 1st some helps. His low cost helps a lot. If his bat already projects as above average that's a big plus. He doesn't have a ton of passed balls or wild pitches. It's not good but it's not crazy bad for a young catcher just breaking into the majors. His passed ball percentages are not that much worse than Vasquez's. I'm not saying he's anywhere near as good as Vasquez ok...but he may well hit better than Vasquez and we are expecting Vasquez to start. I'm just saying he has a decent chance to stick as a back up catcher in mlb for 5-7 years. Maybe even longer. We will see. Most of you disagree. We will see. To me he has A's reclamation written all over him. Platoon guy with great part time numbers with a chance to have one of those crazy hot streaks down the stretch some year into the play offs. God I hope the first round is on Castillo!
Tremendous year in the bucket even better than 1973 champs(I had season tickets and as a twelve year old found dick pole to be worth a teary belly laugh every time I heard his name).

Lavarnway should have the mvp trophy to show off at the next skull and bones meeting.

A couple doubles and it is 4 0
I hope they let Celistino finish this off.
He looked like the real deal in game 3 and he only faced two batters in the seventh.

I agree with the points above completely.
Many times I think fo do come back and say 'had we known he was available'...
The other side of striking quick is any salary dump Atlanta may be making.
Many deals need to be evaluated with this in mind.
Atlanta may move quicker if there is a complimentary free agent signing or deal they are looking towards.

These trade exercises are silly but the points surrounding targeting Heyward are sound.
It also does seem that we match Atlanta well enough.
MLB ready sp depth, third base prospects, outfielders and the weakness overall of Atlantas farm all do work in favor of a deal.
Webster, Middlebrooks could be seen as buy low candidates, using Nava and or Victorino to take on Uptons deal while not ideal could be workable as well

"Johnson is a little underwhelming in person, but when you look up, he is quietly effective. He seemed to be a bit fatigued, but didn't give up much if anything hit hard." Not having seen Johnson pitch before, how did you determine that he was fatigued? Did you speak with him? I never said I hadn't seen him before and no of course I didn't speak to him. I'm not sure of your point. To clarify, by "seemed a bit fatigued' it was the way he moved around the mound and on and of the field. I'm just trying to share my impressions of being on the ground. I Always appreciate the live comments from posters who have live eyes at the games: it can fill in many blanks after reviewing scores, stats, and the reports and discussions here.

I was at the game last night.
I got to Mccoy in the second with my 10 year old and the box office folks were kind enough to give us a couple of tickets.
Johnson is a little underwhelming in person, but when you look up, he is quietly effective. He seemed to be a bit fatigued, but didn't give up much if anything hit hard.
The hilight on the mound was clearly Miguel Celestino. Just a completely dominant 6 batters. It felt like a potential k with every batter. 96 on fastball and a devistating 84 change. It didn't hurt that I was lucky enough to be a predominantly Dominican section that was really into every one of his pitches.
Hembree really seemed to labor on all his pitches and looked like your typical later inning overweight hitable low nineties guy.
Marrero is a joy to watch in the field and his at bats were at least competitive.
Still very disappointed with Cecchini. I just dont see much there. Brentz wasn't at his best either. All in all, not a lot left in the bucket with the bat.
Castillo was a little underwhelming. the stage was set for him in the ninth and he was overagressive first pitch swinging with a very weak pop out to second/short right with Cecchini on tird and only one out. He is not particularly big but has a quick swing.
It was a almost perfect night to end the home season.

Looks like Johnson for game two....at least according to milb...
"ed. note: Barnes has since been called up to Boston, and No. 10 prospect Brian Johnson has taken his place in the Pawtucket rotation for Game 2."

I know one person that agrees with the call up...Matt Barnes.
Belicheck talks about first year players " not able to find the field" for practice.
While I was hoping to see him live on Wed in the playoffs, I agree in the merit of the show.
I just hope there is no significance to the relief role.

With the issues at third and Wrights down year, do you think he is a proper target and considering his contract, what it would take to get him.
I'm thinking Middlebrooks and Webster might be enough.
thoughts?

"Hopefully locked up" when speaking of second is interesting phrasing.
I do think if they approached Pedrioa he would be all in on moving to third.
