He's got a very 80's swing.
And no I don't know what I mean by that.

Thank you. And I hope the series DOES start Friday, because a few days' rest for the troops/arms is fine, but too much layoff creates rust and destroys momentum. So if we start Friday, Eovaldi and ERod could start the first two in Houston on normal rest (rather than added rest.) Is this what everybody is expecting, or does Sale need to be tried early - maybe better in Houston than Boston? He's going to have a long layoff as it is, which may be good given his condition. Would we rather have ERod facing Houston there than in Fenway (G2 and G6). Under any circumstances I think I want Eovaldi starting G1 and G5 because that would allow him to appear in relief in a G7, if it goes that far. I hope that we start Sale in game 1 because he is our best pitcher. When healthy, yeah.

Speaking of Statcast, the data I’d really want to see on JDM, which AFAIK is not data we’re privvy to, is bat speed. To my eye, his bat has appeared slower at times this year, though tough to say how much of that was the wrist injury. If the bat speed has fallen off, I’d feel much less comfortable with a 3Y deal. OTOH, if it still looks strong (outside of any injured periods), I’d be more willing to bet on him having a gentle, Big Papi-like decline. What's a gentle Papi-like decline? Ortiz terrorized pitchers on his way out the door when he hit .315 with 38 HRs, 48 doubles, 127 RBI, .601 SA, and .420 OBP in 2016 in his age 40 season. I think Ortiz decided declining wasn't for him. Lol Makes you wonder how long he'd have been around if it weren't for his knee. Give me 45 year old Papi at DH tonight.

Have we reached the point where the Red Sox are allowed to hire from the Rays?

This got off the rails quickly.
Ronaldo is looking like the type of player that allows the team to go out and spend money on the Devers, Correas, or whoever. If he can develop into a Kevin Plawecki type backup catcher who can be counted on the knock some extra base hits and play passable catcher every 5-6 days then the trade was worth it every day.
I like following these kinds of players - like Travis Shaw before him, guys who just kinda do the job every year at each level and before you know it are solid major leaguers. Fingers crossed for him.

Sadly, a lot of players tune coaches out but respect and listen to other players. Kind of silly considering the coaches are former players. A lot of coaches played 15/20 years ago when the game was different. Taking advice from a guy who only hits bombs right now might be easier. Might also be good to have thoughts from a guy who was on the outside looking in. Fresh eyes and all that.

Personally I’ve stopped looking to MiLB pitchers for a few years now, all I care about is strikeouts and walks meaning Do they have good stuff? And can they control/command it? Where's the fun in that

Miguel Rojas is close to having his option vest. If it does and the Marlins want to move on because they’re the Marlins then I’d like the Sox to make a move for him to get that defense up the middle. Not a sexy name but a useful player. He’s a different player but it would be a Scutaro-esque add The Marlins were not interested in trading him at the deadline, if I remember correctly. Might not be easy to pry him away if they look at him as an important vet for their young core. Would love to see that kind of defender Manning shortstop though.

At the Seadogs game today with my brother, will check in with any observations. If anyone is at the game let me know and I'll buy you a beer!
No Casas today, what a shame.

There are so many beer puns to be made off of YPA - Is he a work horse? All Day YPA. He reach 100 wins/saves? Centennial YPA. He have to reluctantly leave Boston? Two hearted YPA.

lol Nick Yorke with a 2 out grand slam in the 9th to take a four run lead. My god he might be a top 10 prospect in mlb 70 hit tool
Jeeze- might not want to commit more than a year to any second baseman this winter. Kids rocketing through minor league ball.

.303/.442/.592 since he got back from Japan, with half of his home runs coming in that time. Must be something in the water over there.

First four game win streak since mid July. Good time to be getting hot again.
Timing is right for a nice little run. Not looking forward to seeing Cole in an elimination game, would rather it be in Fenway if that's the case.

The last two months of the Casas experience makes me wonder if he was given a directive or a plan for development that wouldn't necessarily translate to in-game success but would develop skills that will pay off in the long run.
Seems like with Portland he's been more contact focused, cutting down strikeouts and putting the ball in play like every pitch is a two strike pitch, but when he went to Japan it was about doing what he does best and cranking dingers. If he can combine those skills going forward he'll be in great shape.

I was skeptical but went back and listened and it seems to check out. The thing that gets me is that nobody around him reacts at all. Someone screaming that behind home plate should at least draw some looks, right?
